I'm Celtic Wiccan. I was taught by a close friend of mine. You should probably find someone that is also pagan and let that other person teach you. I don't know much either, but I've been to a few rituals and have a minor grasp on some gods. but that's about it.

Celtic Wicca does not exist. confused Wicca is an initiatory religion that worships gods who are not of a Celtic pantheon.

Celtic Wicca is a tradition of Wicca, loosely synchronized with elements of Celtic mythology, mostly, as noted by authors including Ronald Hutton, Kelly, Greer and Cooper, by way of the Romanticist Celtic Revival. Raeburn (2001) is aware of the ahistoricity of "Celtic Wicca", establishing "a firm distinction between historical Celtic inspiration and modern Wiccan practice". Celtic Wiccans worship some of the gods of the Celtic pantheon; however, this worship is within a Wiccan structure, not a Celtic one. (Got that on wikipedia.)
TRY SAYIN' MY RELIGION DON'T EXIST AGAIN!

It's neither Wicca nor Celtic, so calling it "Celtic Wicca" is rather idiotic.

Sorry, but both you and Sully are misinformed.

No, it is not Wicca. It is mostly Wiccan beliefs, but with certain Celtic ones thrown in there. But that doesn't change the fact that it exists. You denied the fact that it exists, and your only bringing up that it's not Wicca so you can win an argument you lost with that post.

I already said that it isn't Wicca... It just has some of the Wiccan beliefs in it, and also has Celtic. Are you happy now?

No. Because Wicca doesn't have beliefs. It has practices. What you're doing isn't Wicca. There is no "Celtic Wicca". There is what you do, but that is not Wicca, and there's a fair bet it is not "Celtic" as "Celtic Romanticism"? not actually all that Celtic. Many Celts actually find it offensive.

What beliefs do you hold that are Celtic? What Celtic culture are they from?

I didn't say your religion didn't exist. I said there was no such thing as Celtic Wicca. And there isn't. Because what you are doing, which is theoretically a valid religion, is not Wicca. And if it's based on Celtic Romanticism, it's not all that Celtic either.

There is no one Celtic Pantheon. There are many Celtic Pantheons in the same way that there are many Celtic cultures. There is occasional overlap as I understand it, but they are still distinct pantheons. And as it happens, simply worshipping deities of a Celtic pantheon doesn't make your practice "Celtic". How do you manage to plug Celtic cultural ideas such as Land, Sea, and Sky into the Classical four-element system used in Wicca-flavoured ritual form?

Wiccan structure is not available outside of Wicca. You have admitted that your religion is not Wicca (and yet continue to claim the title, for some reason), therefore, surely you must admit you have no access to the structure of Wicca?

OMG I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU SAY. I BELIEVE WHAT I BELIEVE AND IT HAS PARTS OF OTHER RELIGIONS DOESN'T MAKE IT ANY LESS OF A RELIGION. I DON'T CHOOSE NAMES. IT HAS A WICCAN STRUCTURE AND WICCAN AND CELTIC GODS. THAT IS THE ONLY THING THAT IS CELTIC. SYSTEMS ARE WICCAN. PRACTICES ARE MOSTLY WICCAN. YOU JUST ADD CELTIC GODS. your as bad as the Christians that think we worship demons... you too nines... that was meant to be offensive...

Um no. We have friends who are actual Wiccans who actually DO get offended when someone misuses the term Wicca. Someone like you. We care about them. You're just a neo-pagan and there is nothing wrong with being a neo-pagan. Why do you insist on raping a title that clearly does not belong to you?

Oh and I take offense to that Christian comment. I am a Christian, and a good majority of my friends are indeed neo-pagan. I don't think they're demons. neutral

It was meant to be offensive, but I'm sorry. I was angry. But, once again, I didn't choose the name. The fact it is called Celtic Wicca is of no fault of mine. And I'm sorry for being offensive again. And Wiccan literally means "witch" so does that mean they are the only ones allowed to use the term witch? And traditionally, Catholics thought pagans worshiped demons. That's why I brought it up. And what would you call it, considering it is a mixture of Wiccan practices and Celtic beliefs? Some weird, crazy, original name? Please tell me so I can GO AND CHANGE THE ENTIRE RELIGION. (I hope you noticed that is beyond my abilities...)

((Sorry for changing the entire forum to an argument to the one who created this forum. People just wanted to say my religion didn't exist... then twisted their words to mean that it shouldn't be called that...))

They are wrong to call it Celtic Wicca as it is neither Celtic nor Wicca. Knowing this, why would you personally continue to call it Celtic Wicca?

Quote:

Actually, no. In Old English, "wicca" literally means "male witch". "Wiccan" in Old English is a verb form, not a noun.

Etymology is not definition. The word "Wiccan" means something very different in modern English to the word "wiccan" in Old English.

Quote:

Here's the thing. It is not a mixture of Wiccan practices and Celtic beliefs.

Name the practices that are Wiccan. Name the beliefs that are Celtic. Lifting some deities from Celtic pantheons doesn't make your beliefs Celtic. Your understanding of those gods might be worlds away from Celtic understanding of those gods.

We're not asking you to change your religion. Just to call it by an appropriate name. And yes, you can do that. Others might ignore you, but at least your actions would be honourable.

Noooo.... I want her to choose how I completely ruin her argument using various other sources saying that Celtic Wicca is a form of Wicca, or just by exploding into a fury of anger with alot of offensive terms and things that are right.

Wicca doesn't have any beliefs? Really? I'm pretty sure that belief in the Lord and Lady of the Isles is required to be Wiccan. Wicca does have beliefs, but what defines someone as Wiccan as opposed to an eclectic neopagan worshipping the same gods is practice. What defines Wicca and what Wicca actually is are two different things, though their difference may seem minute.
PostPosted: Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:52 pm

actually, it says things about WICCA, not the Celtic religion, which if you take that chronologically, that means parts of WICCA was absorbed in to CELTIC beliefs, which the CELTIC religion has HISTORICAL support, not like WICCA which is around 60 years old, not like the Celtic religion (Which has historical support to say it existed. If anything, Wicca is less 'real' than Celtic Wicca. This shows that the name is accurate, and that, because the way you put it, Celtic religion is the basis of Celtic Wicca, not Wicca. Plus, I doubt you actually read it all, like I did.)And, I showed that what you believe to be Wicca, isn't actually Wicca, and how it is riddled with historical inaccuracies.

The core of the Wicca is the rituals. Aren't you a member of the Fluffy Pagan Rehabilitation Center Guild? You should know this by now.
