"Um." Rosie wasn't used to boys being gentlemen. She hung out with boys who called 24 internet hours and 3 cans of Red Bull a good time. In fact, she was beginning to think that this man was a bit of a p***y.
"Thanks."
She sat down simply because it wouldn't be polite to decline and Adrian looked up at Minerva as she talked. He had indeed almost fallen, but it was worth it! He got to feel the sproings!

He was perhaps a bit. He was a different sort of nerd, old fashioned and well versed in his librariany ways. Conan sat and smiled over at Minerva, who smiled back.
"Very good pastry, miss. Thank you." Minerva said softly, pulling her hands through her hair. The strands would occasionally snarl on her joints, but pulled through eventually.

"Oh, pshaw," Rosie said, "You don't need to thank me. It's my job." She realized how much she sounded like a fireman or something and snorted at herself. Sure, he was a p***y and she was a loser, and they were both single parents with weird kids. What a pair they made.
Adrian, finished with torturing the sproingy girl, took a handful of crumbled pastry and sticky topping and mashed it into his mouth.
There. Delicious.

Minny watched the baby with her mouth slightly open. Gross.
"It's a fun job. Daddy's a book man. It's sometimes boring, but he likes it."

It was indeed fun. That was all that kept Rosie getting out of bed every morning. That and her weekly tabletop sessions. Adrian stared blankly at Minerva, watching her sproingies as she talked.
"A book man? Like a librarian or a book store?" Rosie asked, looking between Minerva and her father. She wasn't sure who would be the one to respond. Her strawberry shortcake had been rendered disgusting by her baby (which she was used to by now) and so it was now the least of her worries.

"A librarian, Minny." Conan said softly. Use your words, Minerva!
"Librarian." She echoed, eyeing the woman. "Works with musty books."

"Musty books are sometimes awesome," Rosie said matter-of-factly. Not the weird ones with sentences that went on for an entire paragraph, though. Those had been invented solely to torture children in schools, she was certain.
Adrian had a smear of crumbs and red-clear strawberry goo on his nose.

Minerva did not enjoy musty books. They were boring and gross and dusty and dumb. But, daddy liked them, so she pretended to. "I'm glad you like them." She chirped.

Rosie did usually enjoy musty old books, if not just for the fact that they were old and had passed through many hands to get to their current resting place. That in and of itself was kind of awesome to her. She had no idea how to respond, though. In the silence that followed, Adrian began to burble nonsense to himself, almost singing.

Conan smiled to the boy and extended a hand. "What're you singing about?" He asked in a slightly teasing tone. Minerva blinked and tipped her head. That wasn't singing!

"Abllllth~" Adrian cooed. He had meant it to be a question, but of course it didn't come out that way. He shoved some fingers in his mouth and watched as he smacked his hand into Conan's. Well, look at that! He hadn't exploded!
Rosie just laughed softly and wiped the goo from her son's nose. She liked baby-people. Baby-people were never quite as bad as dog-people.

"You were this small not too long ago, Minny." Conan said, keeping his hand up for any further high-fives. "Just had a lot more hair."
Minerva combed her hands through her hair and watched them blankly.

There indeed came many more high-fives, although it was more out of infant curiosity than any sort of congratulatory gesture.
"We all were. Isn't it creepy? To think about that, I mean. Look at how big we are now, but once..." Rosie trailed off, her eyes flickering down to her son's tiny feet.

"They grow up quick." Conan said, smiling at the boy. "Some quicker than others." A look to Minerva. He'd been like her, one of those rapid growth 'shop' kids. He was pretty much done with growing, though.

"Yeah, I'm startin' ta see that," Rosie nodded, "Adrian was teeny-tiny when he first showed up. Right inside a head'a lettuce, this one. Now I can barely carry him around.
"Bllllllllth~"
