Thank the gods, he's actually obeying her. A comforting thought. With another nervous-sounding chuckle, one of those uncomfortably pitched ones, he tried to settle down some more now that Kell had proven to be mostly harmless. Uzi's words proved he still had the potential of being a danger, but as long as she was here, he'd be okay, right?

"I don't feel like biting much..." Heh. Still he had trouble not 'glancing' at Kell every other moment, just to make sure he was still there where he'd been a second before.
So dwelling was bad. Yeah, he'd gotten that impression already, not that knowing made it any easier to live by. Food, yes, think about food now. Wait, what? That other sound was much more interesting to listen to, rather than the growling his stomach was making again. trying not to slip into a tetchy ippity-skip as he walked, he followed her, half focused on that rumbly sound she made, half taking care to keep Kell in his range of vision.

Oh, he'd been as scared as he'd looked... The fact that he wasn't over the hills by now had more to do with his attempts to take it all in stride and get over the sudden surprise. Young spirits have this tendency of bouncing back quickly... sometimes in the wrong direction. All in all he still didn't think he would feel very safe with the hound around without Uzi nearby.

Might have something to do with the fact he'd pretty much yielded in a territory-conflict and would from now on be on the other's turf. Demonoids never took well with that, not that Francis knew.

At last he found a final, definite other distraction in the radial aura of an electrically wired building in the distance. He couldn't yet make out details, but that sheen far away was unmistakeable. In the laboratories, everything had been glowing non-stop.

Eli was on the front porch cleaning some old traps and waiting waiting for Uzi and Kell to return. He'd heard kell's loud baying and it had unnerved him/ made him reach for his gun when it stopped and there was no more forthcoming sound in the distance. Nothing moved out there and no dust rose into the air designating a scuffle. Knowing Uzi was out there somewhere Eli had grudgingly passed it off as another brief standoff with that nosy ownerless wanderer from before. Though the hunter kept his rifle within arms reach just in case he was fairly sure nothing drastic had happened or there'd have been some sign of it. For right now all the auburn haired man intended to do was finish cleaning the traps , so he could start showing Uzi how they worked, and watch the horizon in case it became apparent he was needed.

" Eli is protective of me" the words made Uzi grin a bit " But he will not harm you unless you act threateningly, just remain calm." The huntress gave her instructions as she raised an arms to wave at her bonded and let him know that everything was fine. Ker keens eyes could make out the look of surprise and then amusement on his face when she noticed she had another companion. Uzi supposed it made sense, for all she was distance with most she had been attracting others to herself lately. It wasn't like she was trying though. Even if she was finding companionship with others to not be as awkward as it had been before.

Eli waved back at the essentic and wondered who and what she had brought back with her also more importantly why she had.

At her warning -more like general information, but it did hold a clear suggestion to be cautious about his first impression-, Fran nodded quietly. Makes sense... Even if Eli would turn out to be one of the not-to-be-trusted, the people he'd been with could be pretty possessive about him, too. Oh wait, she'd said 'protective'. ...tomaytoes tomahtoes really.

"I'll be good..." I have no idea what I ever did to make the others do all that to me, but I'm not going to give this new guy a reason to, not if I can help it... Besides, he really didn't want to be at odds with Uzi's cherished person.

When she waved at her companion, he hesitantly raised his non-clawed hand and gave an awkward weak wave back, trying to suppress the urge to flick his tail. In almost the same motion helightly brushed through his hair, behind his ear, and subtly turned up his volume-sensitivity. Then he tilted his head at Uzi. Do we just... go to him now? I'm as ready as I'll ever be, I suppose.

Uzi smiled a bit more, Fran was about as socially awkward as she had been and occasionally still was, it was amusing. she pulled him behind her her till they were just feet from, the porch. Her tail swayed behind her and her ears still as she gestured towards the green eyed man that was her bonded. "Eli this is Fran, I found him and he's hungry". Not the most sophisticated sentenced but it told the other exactly what she felt he needed to know about the situation.

Eli nodded and let his green eyes settle on the newcomer, he was no species the hunter recognized and thus most likely another essentic. " I see, Welcome then and the only things we have at the moment need to be barbecued so I hope you're not a vegetarian." He wasn't adverse to feeding Uzi's new acquaintance, espeically one who'd caused the colour change in her again, but they did need to do a grocery run later to stock up on everything but meat.

Pattering after Uzi, with awkward hasty steps and nearly tripping once, Fran tried to keep his nerves down. Somehow they did show, in the way he slightly let a fang show. Sharp teeth, hell yes. Odd sort of introduction right there. She wasn't saying anything wrong, but... seriously?

"... it's Francis really..."
I know the nickname stuck but you know. Wait, wasn't everyone formal most of the time here? His tail had stopped swishing a moment ago, and was now beginning to curl around a pale blue-plated leg. It made him look more like a bashful tribal cubling than the nearly mature male he was, but he'd never been good with that sort of thing. Nobody'd ever bothered to teach him how to behave and grow up, it wasn't a useful thing for him to know anyway. Just keep him nice and gullible... The fact he was rather well-adjusted manners-wise had more to do with them not wishing to put up with an 'unprefessional' subject rather than anyone really giving a damn.

"Ah, I'm no vegetarian..."
Way too many clues hinting against that somehow. "Thank.. you. I.. Um. Nice to meet you, mister.. Eli, was it?" he turned his head to Uzi slightly and flicked an ear up.

"Yep, and I didn't think you were but you never know" For all Eli know though claws were for pulling bark of trees or or digging in the dirt to get to plants roots and the teeth were used to break open nuts or something of the like. Over time the redhead had learned to try and assume as little as possible about the odd looking people he met. Drente was filled with far to many races to really get judgmental.

He set the trap he was working on to the side and rose to properly greet Francis with an offered hand. Eli could tell there was a problem with the boy's vision by the way he moved but how severe it was he wasn't sure. Vaugely he wondered what it was with him and meeting those that were vision impaired lately, first Fao's son and now this. Briefly he wondered why Uzi didn't seem so bothered by it as she had been with the baby.

"... you never know indeed..." Yes, nice to meet you. Hope we can keep it that way in the future.

At the offered handshake, Fran followed up on it without significant delay. Obviously the creature could tell where Eli's hand was, even down to the digits, as if he didn't lack a pair of important sensory organs at all. Oh look, he's only got three fingers instead of four, too.

Oddly enough, he didn't seem to be able to tell what that thing was he'd just been tinkering with. Something about the way he'd 'looked' at him seemed to imply that, but he hadn't asked.

Not weird at all, no.

"So you uhh... live here, with Kell and Uzi? Do you go to the city sometimes?" small talk, small talk. Ohgod.
PostPosted: Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:31 am

Eli wondered if this essentic, for what else could it be with those looks, was an alter like Uzi or just an incredibly tall proto. Given it's looks he assumed Francis was most likely a combat type though he could be completely wrong and it;s looks could be based solely on influences. The auburn haired man resisted the urge to sigh, why were essentics so hard to sort out, they were nearly as complex as people.

After a brief handshake Eli nodded in answer to the other's question. " Fairly often for groceries and to trade in skins and skulls leftover from hunts." rarely did groceries include meat though given that hunting left him and his parents with a rather steady and varied supply of them. " We don't tend to go a lot of non work related places though." He knew the city layout itself well but damned if he knew where most things inside it were without being told intersecting streets or levels.

Letting the two males talk Uzi hopped up onto the porch railing and peered down at the traps Eli'd been cleaning. She'd seen them before in an old shed but she'd never really had a chance to examine them. They were for hunting though she knew that much from experience and the fact that all the cleaning in the world didn't remove the scent of death on them that was so obvious to her.

Kell settled down by Eli's feet, the old dog's tail thumping against the ground.

Hah, he could've always just asked and gotten a straight answer. Humans are just as complicated really.

And who'd have known, this Eli-person even managed to formulate a completely sensible answer to his question, too! There was much rejoicing. Fran merely hummed and nodded, showing he was listening, then got distracted by Uzi moving away. H-hey, don't go? Oh, what's there?

Pattering over and leaning over the porch -he pretty much thumped into it and nearly flipped over- he gave the air a snuff. He, too, could make out that odd scent. "What are you looking at?" he couldn't see a thing of it.

"It's a metal hunting trap." Eli explained " We don't use them a lot anymore but I felt Uzi would at least learn how they work and how to lay down a trapping line." It'd test her tracking abilities and weather or not she'd learn how to anticipate the movement and behavior patterns of the things she was hunting. If she could lay a good line he;d have a new way to gauge that set of skills and it would keep her mind occupied a while longer till he actually got her ready to attend school, assuming she still wished to go.

Uzi's gaze shifted between Fran and the trap from where she was on the railing. Hmm that was bad, if the other were to stick aroudn while she was using these he could walk right into one and that would be extremely bad. As it was the porch seemed like a big enough obstacle.

"A trap? For wha- ... oh. I think I get it." This would all be a whole lot easier if he could get even a slight idea of the shape of that thing, but yes, he understood. "Have you been teaching her how to hunt all the time? How long?" Come to think of it, he didn't have the vaguest clue about how old she even was. He wondered how long it might take to learn her skills himself, quite frankly, as he didn't have the impression it'd be easy.

It was a good thing Uzi was concerned about that. Fran himself just didn't have the mindset to even think of there being a possible problem about insible traps laying around the terrain.

" A while, I've lost track of time to be honest" Eli admitted. " I've taught Uzi a lot but she has also always just had the instincts for it as some people do."

Uzi grinned and swished her tail at that

"And you" Eli continued " Can I ask what it is you do?"

Ah, yes. Old partners, then. Still, that answer didn't give him even the slightest hint of how long exactly, but hey.

"Me...? I.. I do nothing. Nothing yet." he answere the rather direct question, tilting his head a little. How strange to be asked such a thing. "All I was meant to do was 'be good', to be honest. But I quit that."

Way to make yourself sound like a troublemaker, Frannie.
PostPosted: Wed Nov 04, 2009 11:08 am

'Be good?' What kind of purpose was that? Eli supposed though that if you just grabbed a spark and panicked be good might be the first thing that popped into your mind when it asked you what you wanted it to be. Although how Francis had quit that he wasn't sure he wanted to know.

"He's not going to be trouble" Uzi insisted from up on the railing, knowing what Eli was about to open his mouth and say. She'd learned over time to interpret her bonded's general thought patterns. "He just needs my help for a bit." Francis was her project even if she still wasn't entirely sure what she was doing with him beyond what instincts told her to.

"She didn't drag you here unwillingly right? " Eli was willing to take Uzi at face value for the most part on behalf of the boy. He didn't seem like trouble waiting to happen, still he might not even be here of his own free will. Or at least not without the lure of food, which he should actually get to making in a minute just as soon as he made sure the boy wasn't some sort of accidental prisoner.

If Fran had known more about the exact nature of Purposes, he could have told Eli not to interpret his answer that way. Good lord, he was no essentic, not by far. He could only shake his head, proving Uzi right when she assured her bonded he wouldn't cause a mess.

"I came of my own free will. I will not let people drag me around anymore." he answered the redhead's question calmly. "I like Uzi." a loose tailflick accompanied that neutral statement.

"She has the sun in her."
