It was strange to hear such compliments, and he felt his own blood rising in his face, making the dark brown of his fur even darker. The pair of them stood there awkwardly, his cheek close to hers, and he felt thrilled and surprised by his own boldness to be this near her. It was then that his mind flooded with fantasies of their life together. Traveling the river, following it for all their lives.....
...no.
That wouldn't do. That had been his decision, and only because he hoped his siblings would come back. They hadn't, and for the longest time, he knew this. He just...didn't have any other reason to leave the river. There was no need when you were on your own. But now Esper was here, he knew that dragging her after a drying river was not going to work. What if she...what if she wanted children? Was he getting ahead of himself? Then again, just following the river was tiring. She probably wouldn't want to travel all the time. She was from some place and traveled places other than a river route.
He opened his eyes, having been enjoying the heat traveling from Esper's cheek to his, and pulled back. "Esper....I...I don't think you'd like to stay with me. Traveling this river must be boring to you. I'm...I'm here because I've always been here. You know that just because you are with me, doesn't mean I can't be with you. The river...." He looked over to the river. "...it's what was keeping me company." He turned to her. "...but I have you. I don't need to...I don't need to follow it now." He guessed. He just...never left the river before. He'd been away from it only to follow it to the next spot, but to completely leave the path. He never did that. Not once. What...what would happen if he just...walked away?

She was enjoying the warmth and presence of him being so close, and her eyes were closed, just basking in the feeling of finally having that feeling of companionship. She took a deep breath, and let it out in a sigh. She was happy, for the first time in her life she was absolutely truly happy.
She paused and listened to him speak. She knew what a big deal it was for him to leave the riverbanks, and she felt for him truly. She cocked her head and listened, and her heart ached a bit for him.
She knew what it meant for him to leave the river.. He had been following it all his life, and his past.. his past had been here.
She wasnt sure if she would have been that strong, to leave something she had always known. But he made her smile, and she came closer to him, nuzzling into his neck and trying to be that companion to him in his time of need.
"Oh Lesu. That must be so hard for you. Im here, and Ill always be here..and Ill be your shoulder to cry on, and your strength every day. You wont miss the river, for I will take its place."
She said wtih a smile.
She wanted kids, and maybe one day, the river would be back into his life. But for now, while it was just the two of them.. She knew it would be okay.
"We..We could travel. We could meet my family..and you can see where I come from." She smiled.

He was more than thrilled to have her nuzzle him, and he felt a sort of new freedom in being allowed to be this close to her. It gave him a window that said that yes, now, he could nuzzle her. Touch her. Breath in her sweet fur and rest against her all because she would welcome it. As she came to him, he reached up and set a paw around her, resting it against her back as he held her there. It was nice she would be there for him, and for once, there would be someone there. Someone, he hoped, that wouldn't run off when they wanted a better life. Then again, he would be starting a new life away from the riverbank just like his siblings. Was he betraying the river? No. He was sure the river would understand something as powerful as love.
His eyes went to the river, drying up in the sun. It would break apart into puddles, then mud, and then be gone. It would be the drought season soon and it would be harder to find. Maybe it was time.
"Thank you, Esper. I would like to see your family. It's about time I leave. It's what everyone else in my family has done. I don't think they're coming back. Not to just stand by a riverbank. I'm sure they all went off to find someone and start new lives. I....I should too." To think he would come to this day and this decision, but he was sure there was a reason. A reason for Esper to be here, to be with him, and to take him away from just following a dying river all his life.
Licking his lips, he pressed his muzzle into her hair. "Can we stay here....for one last night." And then they would go - he would go - and leave the river behind him in hopes of seeing greater, better things ahead.

She smiled gently, and nodded. She wanted him to meet her family, and she wasnt sure she could ever live without him now. When he put his paw around her back, she almost swooned, and did her best to keep her knees from going weak. She was definitely a romantic at heart, and this was everything she had ever dreamed. She nuzzled him again, giving him a small lick to his cheek, as a blush tainted her cheeks once more.
She hoped one day to see his family, if only so that he could see them once more. His family seemed so important to him..The same as hers was to her.
"Yes, we can leave the waterbanks, and.. maybe one day return. But you can see the world, and I shall be there to experience it with you." She said with a grin, her little knub tail wagging as she did.
"Its all just beginning Lesu, and there will never be an end to our story."
Then she nuzzled him again, and smiled at his request. Of course they could stay one more night. She was used to cuddling him at night, but now..now it would be different. She would be able to lean into the mate that she loved, and there would be safety there.
"Why not. I could use the cuddling." She said with a nod.
