"That would be wonderful..." Lauss uttered, completely in love with the idea. If there was any chance he could be white again, he was in. "Though I'm not sure how much luck we'll have with me. Your change of colors aids your purpose. How could having white skin do anything for mine?" His was purely about the influences he'd gathered, white skin being more of an interest than a necessity.

"You're more likely to work harder if you're at ease with yourself." Uzi knew that for herself when she felt uncomfortable in her own bad as she had after first becoming an alter it had decreased her efficiency.

"Speaking of purposes you have not told me yet if you have been making progress with yours" though both their purposes had them working closely with humans Uzi had always felt she had an advantage. Eli actually wanted to hunt. She was unsure about how much lauss' bonded wanted to learn.

Lauss nodded, looking down to the table at Uzi's first comment. As the topic of purposes came up, he managed to glance up at her, a small, unsure smile on his face as he answered. "It's going well, I suppose. Miss Lee skips school much less often now. Her grades have been improving, though that likely has most to do with the subject matter being less in depth and the work load less strenuous. She still avoids studying, however..." And that was about all there was to say. It was slightly depressing, really. He didn't get many chances to be useful, not with Rory around now. She liked his company much more than study time with Lauss. "How is hunting going? I imagine you've memorized the animal tracks by now, yes?" He remembered getting the chance to study with the other essentic when they'd first met. Good times.

Uzi nodded" Tracking is fairly easy now although winter is coming and Eli says tracking in snow and slush will be more difficult becuase it can distort tracks." There was a slight bit of glee in the huntress's voice there and here tail tap against her seat in pleasure. Any new challenge was good to her.

Still she wasn't fully happy becuase well Lauss was her first friend and his own purpose wasn't being fulfilled, given her vague knowledge of souls and their needing a purpose she disliked that idea greatly. Lauss was suffering through no fault of his own. her hands , resting atop the tabled clenched into loose fists " I will speak with your lee about studying, until then you can teach me about humans, there's still a lot about them I don't understand." She was not his bonded but she give him something to do at least. For lauss Uzi could emulate or perhaps actually fell compassion.

Though the predatory gleam in her golden eyes at the moment showed anything but compassion. Lee would need to be spoken to and Uzi would get her point across even if she had to be aggressive about it. Certainly she wouldn't seriously harm the human but she wouldn't just ask politely either

Lauss found the hunting talk fascinating on its own, leaning forward as she shared that small bit of information about tracks in the snow. Sure, he'd never find a time to use that information, and likely would never have to quiz someone on it, either, but collecting facts was his "thing". What else, what else?

Lauss' eagerness faded for just a moment, tilting his head as he looked over at Uzi. She would talk to Lee? About what exactly? What was there to say? At any rate, he was being given the chance to tutor her, and he couldn't pass that up. "While I, too, don't understand everything about humans, I'd gladly teach you what I know. What exactly are you having difficulties with?" Focusing on her weak points first was the proper way to go about it, right?

The waitress came up to the table to let them know their food would be there soon, and refilled any drinks before wandering over to another table.

Uzi sipped at her refilled water before replying."Many things but mostly I do not understand their social behaviors." she admitted " I don't observe people enough to gather what sort of things are normal amongst them" she had figured out gentle touches on arms meant affection and certain voice tones indicated certain emotions but that was it. " How they set up their hierarchy and how they keep them?Tthose sorts of things."

Uzi had no desire at all to be human but she had always wanted to better understand them at least. Asa hunter she wanted to understand before interacting with them. They weren't prey but humans as a whole were still very much an unknown which was why Uzi mainly stuck with the humans she knew and had judged worthy. If she could better comes to terms with what made humans like they were she might be more comfortable seeking them out to speak with on occasion just for trivial things or when running errands for Eli.

Lauss sank in his seat, looking over to the other essentic helplessly. "Well... I'm afraid those very things you mentioned are what I have difficulties with, as well." So much for teaching her. He could at least tell her about some of his own observations, though. "Pertaining to the hierarchy you mentioned, however... I suppose, if you're speaking about power and influence, it relates primarily to wealth. Brawn and 'connections' help, as well, in some circles. Those with the most monetary wealth, though, almost always come out on top, so to speak. Or so I've seen." The mention of Lee's family name was a good example of that.

Lauss looked down at his cup, repositioning it so it was directly in line with his still wrapped utensils. He'd ignore it until his food came, his focus solely on Uzi for now.

Uzis ears flicked forward as she listened intently while her friend spoke. Hmm it seemed that humans were perplexing still to Lauss as well. " where does rich people's money come from, I have never seen a wealthy person work?" Presumably Lauss had, after all Lee's family was rich. Uzi knew where money in general came from after all she'd seen Eli trade furs and skulls and small crafted items over for money before. Never the quantities it would take to be rich though and she had simply never seen how the wealthy got their money nor had it explained to her before.

Ah, good, questions even he could answer. Lauss leaned forward a bit, excited to work on his purpose, even if it wasn't for Lee. "Often times, the largest sums of money are inherited. It seems most easy to make money when one already has some from the start. However, some happen upon wealth through the exploitation of highly valued skills, or acquire large sums of money through luck alone." Lauss was having fun, and it showed clearly on his face, and the way he was bouncing slightly in his seat. He wasn't even thinking about the fact that his and Uzi's food was taking quite some time to arrive.

"What sort of skills are highly valued?" Uzi knew Eli's hunting ability was useful and pelts brought in money but they were by no means rich. " How does inherited money work?" How did parents decide which children got their things and how much of it? Would Eli inherit money when his parents died? The alter understood only the barest essentials of how these sorts of things happened, her knowledge gleaned from books or conversations she'd overheard. The huntress' voice dropped low to ask her last question "Why do women marry old men for money?" Such things were, in her experience, talked about only in hushed tones.

Used only to Eli's cooking and the varying times it took Uzi was uncertain how long she should be waiting for her food to arrive although she had noted it's lack of appearance. Having a drink was nice but water would not fill her belly.

Lauss had to think about it, but his smile grew wider at all the questions he was being asked. Uzi actually found him useful. He couldn't be happier than he was at that moment. "Well... Singing and acting make money, and generally talents and skills related to entertainment. But I'm sure if you are overly talented in any particular skill, you can make quite a large sum of money." Even hunting, he believed, could get someone rich. Then again, that usually involved illegal activities, but so did most get-rich-quick schemes. "Inheritances are usually given out through 'wills'. The parent writes out who they would like to give their possessions and wealth to -- usually those who were closest to them in life -- and the recipients are handed their inheritance after the loved one has passed away." He didn't know anything else about inheritances, though. He had to admit, he was curious now that it was brought up... Leaning close to hear Uzi's final question, Lauss blinked, thinking a moment before responding in the same hushed tone. "Perhaps it is because the women know the husband does not have long to live, and she will not have to be around him long before she gets her money." He wasn't too knowledgeable on that subject, either, and was basically spit-balling here.

As soon as Lauss was finished talking, the essentics' waitress came up to their table and set their food before them, hopping off after a quick, "Enjoy!" Jellied eels didn't look too appetizing, did it? Uzi's food looked a lot better, but Lauss figured the taste was what was most important, not the looks.

A quick glance at Lauss' plate told Uzi to ignore the other essentic while he was eating, meat or not there was absolutely nothing apprenticing about what he'd just been served. On the other hand the hot steam pouring off the bowl of her stew brought a mouth water ambrosia like smell to the huntresses lips and she had no qualms about digging in to her own dish, especially when it didn't look that bad either; just like normal meat really. Uzi still didn't know what Seco de chivo was but one bite had her thinking she didn't really care. All thoughts of humans and their skills left her mind except for wondering if Eli could be taught to make this.

"Is yours any good?" She asked curiously a moment later, still not looking over at her friend or his plate.

Lauss looked a bit longingly down at Uzi's plate, wishing he'd gotten what she had. Luckily for him, the smell of her food wasn't able to reach him, and he could focus on what he had ordered. Taking a deep breath, he took the first bite, only to find that he'd never tasted anything quite so awful before in his short life. His eyes dimmed and his mouth slowly fell open, allowing the "food" to fall off of his tounge and back into the bowl. An aquired taste, he was sure... Taking multiple sips of his drink, he tried to drown out the flavor while he searched for words to answer Uzi's question. A short "Urg..." was all that came from his mouth. After a long moment, and a few extra sips of his drink, he managed to ask the same of his friend. "How is yours?"
