One thing about my own personal preferences: I'm not a big fan of VCVCBC song structure. I actual prefer lack of repetitive chorus, unless it really adds to the intensity of the song. For me, song writing is about telling a story, so it just makes logical sense not to interrupt what you're saying with s**t you've already say. The first half of that has potential, though. It definitely gets sketchy at the end of the second verse, but I like the idea behind it. MUSIC THOUGH! Start writing some for it! You'll have to eventually, and it's best to do them both at the same time. Keep working at it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32dLVXMzgTgListen to that. It's a good example of what I'm talking about.

Argh. I wish I had a way to record. Because I have music, and I've switched the lyrics around and changed a lot, and it's mildly enjoyable now.
Either way:
I guess I'll cut you into shreds One last thing to do Throw you in a body bag and roll you down the mountain
Guess I'll keep a piece Final memory Wrap your parts in dirty towels and give you to the lake
Never see it comin' Never see it comin' Never see the knife go 'cross your throat
Guess you're dead and gone On thing left to do Sit up on the mountain top and watch the sun rise
Watching the sun rise Plotting your demise Planning out trajectories How to make bodies fly
Always plannin' new sins Always plannin' new sins Always waiting for my day to come!
You're both dead and gone Dead and gone Dead and gone You're both lost and forgotten lost and forgotten Never forget me. . .

I think we need a spontaneous poetry thread. Only spontaneity is allowed. I haven't been depressed lately, so I haven't been writing.
It kind of sucks when life is going good, in that regard.
Eh, don't be too hard on your own writing. I honestly think that I was a better writer about this time last year than I am now (although I have been writing for a good 6 years, so there's a bit of a maturity gap in that regard). It's almost like I wore myself out. It's tough to stop, and it's definitely frustrating, especially when you really have something to say, but if you're not feeling it you just need to ease off and let it come. I've probably only written a solid two pages of good lyrics in my life. That's really how rare they are for most songwriters. The trick is elaborating on them without destroying their meaning.
Time to dig through old journals.
As a side note, I'm also not sure what kind of music your into. Name a bunch of your favorite bands. That'll give me a decent idea (I hope).

Ah, your tastes haven't quite developed yet.
You'll find better stuff eventually. You're like, on the verge of finding the really good indie stuff.

A question: do you write your lyrics with a style directly in mind?
Try not to compromise the natural flow of things in the name of rhyming.

hellosara A question: do you write your lyrics with a style directly in mind?
Try not to compromise the natural flow of things in the name of rhyming. Well, In general, no. I tend to start writing and whatever way my words sound in my head when I'm finished is what "style" it is. Like that last one I posted sounds Saves-The-Day-Esque in my head. Really? I just enjoy rhymes, but I'll see what I can do.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA
I lost most respect for you when you said that 4 (but probably 5 if you want to include Animal Collective) of the most iconic and genre defining bands of the past 20 years suck. That's kind of retarded.
I don't see how anyone in the universe could not like Arcade Fire, Pavement, or Modest Mouse. They literally do EVERYTHING very well.
You should give all of them another listen, because all of these bands have pretty large entries in the hipster's manual.
Kids these days. They have no idea what good rock music is. Kind of sad. I feel old now.

Hect HAAAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA MENTAL OVERLOAD I FEEL HEAVILY SLIGHTED BY HORRIBLE TASTE HAVE YOU EVEN LISTENED TO A PAVEMENT ALBUM?????????????? IT IS BEYOND ME HOW ANY HUMAN COULD NOT LIKE THEM. CANNOT COMPUTE. Hm. Well, I gave everyone in that list a second chance when you said that, and I can safely say Pavement is just boring for me. However, Dinosaur Jr., Arcade Fire, and Animal Collective were all very good. I guess the 30 second previews eMusic gave me were shitty, because that's what I had based my statement on. I did like it once I listened to full songs. Modest Mouse is still just okay to me, but maybe it's an acquired taste thing. Lol. You said Neutral Milk Hotel in d20's rec thread and I listened to "Oh Comely" and about came in my pants.
