Oh yeah. It was shown in the anime and the manga. The general idea is that a Buso Renkin can change its form as the wielder gets more in tune with it. A level up if you will. In this guild, that same thing applies. Once you rank up, you can come up with an alternate form for you weapon with a new effect for it.

"Im curious, as far as the traditional humunculi are concerned...will animal forms still be in use...or are they no longer necessary due to the leveling system of a buso renkin? When it comes down to it I'm not quite sure how many people would actually be some genetically altered creature if they could use a tool that could do the changes for them as well as add some rather decent perks"
