Nerezza watched as the Rattata dived for the candy and shook her head. Pitiful. But as she heard the human's reaction to the swipe, the Gastly got up right close to the girl's face. "Gastly. Gast-gast gastly." "Oh shut up. It was an accident." Still holding the rectangle, she bared her fine, sharp teeth and backed away.
Nerezza turned the box over in her "hand." What on earth could it be? The Pokemon didn't know the human language enough to say a simple "Quest-que-c'est?" She was at a loss for what to do. But all of a sudden, she smelled the tantalizing scent of another candy. She turned back around to face the human and her eyes shot wide open as Nerezza saw the human barreling towards her. As quick as the Gastly could, she floated out of the human's way, but she still felt part of her being passed through.
Nerezza was enraged.
Snarling, she tackled the human and bit down on her clothes, tearing small rips. All the while, the box was in a faraway tendril, out of harms way. Nerezza then came face to face with the human. She was no more than two inches away. The Gastly lowered her eyes and held the box out of the human's reach, but close enough that Nerezza would know that she saw it. Using another gaseous tendril, the Pokemon pointed to the box and said in her most venomous voice, "GAST. GAST. GAST?" "WHAT. IS. THIS?"

HOLY CRAP BAD IDEA! Panicked and crying, Cab tried to fend off the ghastly but her arms passed right through. Penners, who at first had bounded after the second loose piece of candy, quickly rushed to Cab's rescue. Or at least attempted to. Cab may have loaded her up on TMs, but without Cab's guidance she really couldn't do much more than tackle through the ghastly's wispy body. Doing so just made her skin tingle and prickle.
It wasn't until Nerezza moved away that Cab noticed she wasn't hurt, only her clothes and mental well-being. And potentially her camera. Her wide eyes flickered about trying to see if it had landed on the ground but couldn't find it. Penners, upset that she'd been unable to help, stood by Cab's head and touched her trainer's hair. Cab picked her up as she sat back up, slowly, waiting to see if the ghastly was going to force her back down.
"W-well fine! You-you want it s-so bad, then just keep it!" At last, Penners tried to communicate the ghastly's wishes. She patted Cab until her trainer looked down at her. Penners mimed using a camera.
"Ra rattata tatta rat..." Tell her what it does...
"I... what?" She watched Penners and thought. She was still shaking, though just barely now. "Do you... I could, um... take your picture...?" Cab offered. That somehow didn't seem what Penners was trying to get at. Penners made the camera clicking sound, or a close enough approximation that Cab knew what it was and then took the pretend camera from her face and shrugged, doing her best to look confused, and then pointed to Nerezza.
"Or... um, do you want to take mine? I could show you how to work it..." When Penners nodded deciding that was close enough for now, and so Cab hoped she was on the right track and made a mental note - the two of them needed to work out some signals for in the future. Maybe it was just lack of experience, but Cab had no idea how other trainers were able to grasp what their pokémon talked about when it was all nonsense sounds.
"Well first, you'll have to turn it on..." Cab said. She started to reach toward the camera to touch the button herself, but thought better of it. I hope ghastly aren't color blind. "It's the black button on top, with a white symbol on it..." she hesitated, but went on. "After that it'll power up and you can press the green button," still on the top, but on the left side unlike the power button on the right.

Nerezza was breathing heavily as she watched the human girl menacingly. But the Gastly could see that she was crying, most likely from fright. "Aw... Come on, now, s-stop crying..." Nerezza then felt an unexpected feeling: guilt. It swept over her like a tidal wave and wouldn't go away. The human was just trying to get her camera back, and Nerezza was scaring the poor girl to death. She felt terrible... Gah... What am I thinking?! I'm sounding like Opal, geez... She's contagious.
But the Pokemon had to turn away from her thoughts and focus on the human, who had just told her that she could keep it. Nerezza rolled her eyes. "Gastly gast-gast gastly... Gast gastly gast gast gastly." "I don't wan this stupid thing... I want to know what it is." Out of the corner of her eye, the Gastly could see Penners trying to explain to her human, and it seemed to work. "THANK you. At least someone understands here..." Nerezza said to the Rattata. She watched as the girl tried to explain to Nerezza, and she reluctantly held out the box to the human so she could better elaborate.
After a few minutes of the human explaining, Nerezza wanted to try it. "So I just hit this thing?..." She was looking at the black and white button that the girl had described. With a steady wisp-like tendril, she gently pushed the button, and a small screen suddenly appeared, almost making the Gastly drop the box in fright. Soon, however, she calmed down and faced the box at the Rattata. "And then I press this green button here?..." She pushed it and there was a big flash. Nerezza cried out, but held on tight to the box, and when she looked at it again, the little screen showed an image of the Rattata, but it was frozen. "How weird... But cool!"

Cab held her breath each time the Ghastly nearly dropped the camera and then gave a weak smile. "Yea... just like that." She had a sinking feeling she wouldn't get the camera back. Penners sighed and patted Cab's knee, she'd caught Nerezza's final words before Cab started explaining the box-thing. She felt relieved her Cab wasn't going to loose whatever it was that was so important to her.
"Tatta tatta rattata ratta..." So much drama over something so small... Her eyes wandered back to the second piece of candy which had laid forgotten during the tutorial session. She glanced up at Cab and started to sneak that way.
"Oh no you don't," Cab leaned over and snatched up the candy. "That's enough for today." She put the second candy back in her bag and looked back at the Ghastly. "So... uh..." She wasn't sure what to say. She glanced down at her shirt. "Guess I deserved that... I'll respect your space if, well, if we ever see each other again."

Nerezza smiled as she turned the "camera" over in her gaseous tendrils. It was very peculiar, but it looked fun as well. The Gastly could see why the human was so attached to it. She looked at the box longingly, then at the human. Nerezza sighed heavily, and then turned the camera so the shutter faced her. Putting on her best and least frightening (okay, maybe a little frightening) smile, the Gastly slowly pushed the green button. Click! The shutter went off. Nerezza waited a second or two before turning the camera back around and examining the still image of her. She didn't look too bad. Smiling a little, Nerezza then gave the box back to the human.
"Gast gastly, gast-gast, gastly gastly gast gastly gast-gast gastly." "We may not meet again, but if we do, you have my permission to take my picture." Nerezza smiled again, but it was a smile of friendship: a very rare thing indeed. The Gastly then turned to the Rattata. "Gast gastly. Gastly gast gast... gastly gast gastly." "You ain't half bad, kid. But be careful what you eat... Sweets do not a full meal make, not matter how much I pray that it was." Nerezza, having said her piece, floated away from the two, grinning slightly to herself that such a lonely jaunt would end so well.
Overhead, the Gastly's ears rang as she heard the call of the Pidgey once more. "Gastly gast GAST?! Gastly!" "Will you SHUT UP?! Really!" Nerezza growled and continued on her way.

Cab looked at her camera in shock and reached out to get it. She couldn't believe she was getting it back! "Thanks," she said, and thought the ghastly's smile even looked sincere this time.
Penners waved a mock-disdainful paw at the ghastly. "Ratatta rattata tatta..." Yeah yeah, you're not so bad yourself for a purple gas-ball. She winked and leaned against Cab.
Cab sat and looked at the two pictures after the ghastly had gone. The shot of Penners wasn't quite in focus, but the second photo had turned out pretty good. Now Cab just needed to decide if it was OK to take credit for that shot, she'd never heard of a pokémon taking a picture before. At least now she had a much more interesting story to tell Roise about her day rather than, "We walked around, I took some nature photos, we took a nap, yadda, yadda, yadda." She tucked her camera away and looked at her clothes with a sigh. Maybe she could salvage the scraps and use them for patches or something.
