"I'll try not t' work so hard," Faolan said, smiling at her and leaning down a little to oblige the kiss. He looked a little puzzled. "Do babies read books?"

"Not exactly," Ellandra said, smiling at the confused look on Faolan's face as they walked inside. She lead him over to the children's section and showed him some books for infants. "It's for when they're a little older and can explore their surroundings more - see how this one has things to feel and makes different sounds? You read the story to the little one and let them explore the other things the book offers."

Faolan took the book from her that made sounds and had different things to touch. "This will be good for Sam. I wonder when we need to start trying to teach him to read those books with the bumps. We probably should learn how to read them, too."

"It's good for all babies," Ellandra said quietly, "But yes, it probably would be especially useful for Sam. As for braille. . . .I'm - I'm not really sure. How do you teach that sort of thing?" She paused for a moment and then bit back a laugh. "Well, we are in a bookstore - maybe we can find a book on that subject while we're here."

"I'm guessin' we just find a book tha' teaches us how t' read it an' then we can teach Sam when he's older," Faolan said, shrugging. He looked down at Elle. "Show me where your books are, love."

"My books?" Ellandra echoed, and blinked. "What do you - whyever would you want to? You can look at them for free after all. . ." The look of puzzlement and outright confusion on her face was genuine - she simply didn't understand why Faolan would want to see her books in the bookstore.

Ellandra pouted. "All right, all right, come on then," she said, unable to keep from breaking into a smile as she lead him unerringly to the section of the store where the majority of her books were kept. "Though I don't know what you see in these silly things," she added.

Faolan moved a hand along the spines of the books, a small look of awe on his face. "I knew you wrote an' all, but it's a bit different knowin' it an' seein' your work here in front o' me." He looked down at her, smiling softly. "I have absolutely nothin' I've done in me life t' compare t' this."

"They're just books, Faolan," Ellandra said quietly. "And they're not even published under my real name - I was always too frightened to have my real name known to anyone. I'm still not sure I could do that." She paused for a moment and kissed the babies' foreheads, rewarded with a blink and a waving fist from Bel, who peered around her in a sleepy-dozy way. "Personally, Faolan, I think you have done something in your life that more than compares with my writing - and they're right here with us now."

"Please," Faolan chuckled. "All I did was plant th' seed. You did all th' hard work." He looked down at the babies, offering Bel a finger to grasp. Sam was staring off into space, his little ears moving about at every sound. "I donnae see why you couldnae use your name now. You got me an' all o' Farstep t' keep th' rabid fans away."

Bel's tiny fist locked around Fao's finger and she blinked, trying to peek up at her Daddy as she listened to him and Mama talk. Ellandra geently touched one of Sam's little twitching ears, wondering if he had inherited his father's . . . . interesting. . . . reaction to having them touched. "Rabid fans? Faolan, I don't think I'm quite that well-known," she said with a half-smile at her husband.
"Um. . . excuse me," piped up a strange voice, as a young woman in her late teens to early twenties stepped up to the pair, her brown eyes wide behind overlarge glasses. "But - I overheard - " she stuttered, then stammered out in a rush "Are-you-really-THE-Aria-Vandenmar?!? Oh-my-gosh-you're-prettier-than-I-imagined-andyou've-got-a-family-wow-ohmigosh-and-a-hot-husband-ohmigosh-ohmigosh-I've-GOT-to-getyour-autograaaaaaph!"
Ellandra squeaked and edged behind her husband, eyes wide. "U-um....... Faolan, help!"

"Oi, girl, chill," Faolan told the stranger, pulling Ellandra protectively behind him, one arm going around the twins in their carrier at his chest. He glowered at the fangirl, not really sure what to say to her.

The fangirl had the decency to blush and back away a step or two. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's just no-one's EVER seen Ms. Vandenmar in person, ever, and no-one's ever going to believe me when I tell them and please, please, please can I have your autograph ma'am? You're such an awesome writer and I can't wait to see your new book - and oh, you've got cute babies, is that why you stopped writing? Everyone in my book club was wondering and that's a lot better reason than what Mary-Alice came up with, which was this crazy thing about - oh, sorry, sorry, um, look, um, can I please just have your autograph, ma'am? I'm sorry for being so forward - it's just - this - this has never happened before! No-one's going to believe me as it is!"
Trembling a little, Ellandra sighed, grabbed one of her books off the shelf, signed it with her penname (thankful that she still didn't go anywhere without a pen) and practically shoved the signed book at the bookworm before hiding behind her husband again. "Um, miss, please, just - just take that and go, please?"
The fangirl beamed and raced to the register, bouncing on her toes and talking to herself about how "no-one would believe her" and "how awesome this was". Ellandra sagged against Faolan, looking stressed and tired.
"That would be why I don't write with my real name," she said, leaning into him and drawing strength from her husband.

"Good freaking crap, Elle," Faolan muttered, shaking his head at the retreating girl. "I think you should keep your pen name if all your fans be like tha'." He looked down at the twins to make sure they were alright. Sam was scrunching his little face up as if trying to decide whether to cry or not.
