"Faolan Grady, are you implying I'm uppity?" Ellandra asked, managingb to look down her nose at her husband despite being far shorter than him even when sitting - before collapsing into laughter and getting a faceful of inquisitive puppy for the noise she made.

"Nae, I'm sayin' you're a lady an' I'm . . . well, Bert," Faolan chuckled, looking down at the puppy in his lap. Bert had started drooling in his sleep, one paw waving about while he dreamed, and still snored loudly.

Ellandra pushed the excited, licking Contessa out of her face, smiled at Faolan and reached over to rub Bert's fat little tummy. "Well, Bert's very cute - both of you. Contessa's a lucky little lady to have a Bert in her life, if she's as much like me as you say."

"Heh, I suppose so. I mostly went t' just get a dog fae you," Faolan said, smiling down at the snoring puppy. "I saw Bert an' couldnae help it. I wanted t' get him, but I didnae think you'd like him as much. Contessa seems more like th' dog fae you. Plus, th' kids will grow up wi' pets an' tha' cannae be all bad." He looked up at his wife. "Should maybe get th' Essentics t' help wi' carin' fae th' dogs t' gi' them some responsibilities. Lee tol' me that Lauss helped wi' Rosco an' it seemed t' do pretty well."

Ellandra sighed softly, stroking Contessa's ears and looking a little sad. "Yes. . . especially Rhian. Maybe it would help to settle her a bit," the brunette said, a frown crossing her face at the thought of her wayward flutterby. She sighed again, prompting a lick on her nose from the puppy.

"Maybe," Faolan agreed, nodding. "Zia's alreet, you know. It can take care o' itself an' others pretty well, even if its still reliant on me. Sometimes, I think it spends too much time takin' care o' itself, though. I guess I'd like Zia t' be more help t' us wi' th' kids an' all. I know th' little s**t spends most o' its time over at Da's drinkin'."

Ellandra narrowed her eyes a bit. "Well, I'd try to cut down on its drinking but it's not like it would do any good to try," she said, frowning a bit. Her eyes strayed over to the packages she had helped to carry in and blinked at Faolan. "I almost forgot - what are all of those for?"
Unnoticed by Ellandra, a pigtailed head peeked around the door of her room before ducking back inside, a horribly downcast and slightly frustrated expression spread across Rhian's features. She knew she'd messed up, and it was killing her now. . . especially since she was forced to try and struggle with schoolwork that she just didn't understand and couldn't focus on for the least amount of time.

"Ay, now, Zia's not all bad. It donnae get drunk. From what Da says, they hae a few beers an' talk. I think it actually does Da some good, you know? He's been under some stress lately an' he donnae always feel like he can talk wi' me about things. He knows what Zia is an' he knows th' kid can help," Faolan said, shrugging and moving Bert from his lap to the floor. The puppy snorted but didn't wake. Fao just shook his head and looked at Elle again. "I'll talk wi' it, though. See if Zia will rein in th' drinkin'."
He walked over and picked up most of the packages, holding them out to Elle. "There are for you, me most beautiful wife, an' I'd rather 'preciate you tryin' at least one on now, eh?" He glanced over to see Rhian's head duck back in the room. "You can do tha' while I check on our wayward butterfly."

Ellandra smiled at Faolan and put Contessa on the floor as well, watching as the small cocker spaniel trotted over to her tubby companion and flopped on top of him, going to sleep with a Bert-pillow. "Hm, I have the strange feeling that those two have a bond not unlike ours," the brunette said, before taking the packages up in her arms and glancing them over. "Try one on? What on Drente did you buy, Faolan? Never mind, I'm sure I"ll find out," Ellandra said, stepping over and kissing her husband on the cheek before retiring to their room to unwrap and inspect the packages and their contents.
Rhian sat on her bed in her room - at first it had been fascinating to have her own room and her own bed, but after seeing nothing but the walls of this room for the past three days it had completely lost any and all appeal it had had before. Peering at her homework again, the flutterby's antennae dimmed to a nearly-nonexistant glow as a frustred sigh escaped her, tears welling up in her eyes at her sheer inability to understand. "It's just too hard. . ." she whimpered, scrubbing at her eyes as another thought occured to her. "Or I'm just too dumb. . ."

Faolan grinned at his wife's retreating backside then gave the puppies a last glance before heading to Rhian's bedroom. "Hey there, butterfly baby. Did you need somethin' earlier, eh?" He took in her expression and sighed walking over to her. "What's wrong, kiddo?"

Ellandra inspected the packages, her face flaming up into a brilliant blush as she extracted one piece of lingerie after another from the wrapping. "Oh, my. . ." And Faolan wanted her to try on one of these? Well . . . maybe this one wasn't so bad. . .
Rhian looked up as Faolan came in, chewing on her lip. "I heard a puppy bark," she said quietly, her antennae flickering, dimming and brightening, but mostly dimming. She paused for a moment and blinked a bit. "Faolan. . . I think I'm stupid," she said quietly, unconsciously mimicking her Mama's behavior as she played with the gloves on her hands.

"You heard right, dear," Faolan said, moving to sit on the Essentic's bed, forearms resting on his thighs. "I got your mum a puppy an' got one fae meself, too." He smiled at her gently. "You ain't stupid, Rhian. Whatever made you think tha', eh?"

Rhian looked down at the books spread open all around her and the notebooks full of erased pencil marks that looked like the flutterby had been working and erasing it for hours upon hours, the pages also dotted with damp spots that looked like tears of frustration had fallen - and the pigtailed Essentic's pillow also looked rather suspiciously damp. Rhian, however, appared (mostly) dry-eyed, at least for now - just incredibly disappointed. "Because if I wasn't stupid I'd understand this stuff, and I don't. I've tried and tried but I can't understand any of it!"

"Calm down, lass. Let's just try one lesson at a time. What are you workin' on right now? Maybe I can help," Faolan offered, tilting his head a bit. "Contrary t' belief, I ain't stupid neither. Most donnae know it, but I graduated wi' honors from an accelerated homeschooling program put out by one o' them fancy schools. Da thought it would help me out one day, an' if it help me in tutorin' you properly wi'out removing anyone's clothes, then I'd say th' old man was right."

Rhian bit her lip again and looked down. "Science," she said quietly. "Lauss-teacher likes it, but I don't 'cause I don't get it - but I don't get any of this stuff. . ." She looked around the room idly, her bright blue eyes not really taking anything in, before she looked back to Faolan. ". . . Am I allowed to see the puppies later?"
