Regular RP - Hot-diggity-dog [Aurora & Skip]; Complete! [Total Word Count - 4,008]Skip's Journal - Entry 39 Dear Journal, I had quite an interesting day, let me tell you! It started off normal, just like any other day would have. School had just gotten out, and it was going to be one of those slow days. Since we didn’t have much homework, and I didn’t really have anywhere to be, I figured I’d make a stop to one of my usual hangouts: Joe’s Hotdog Stand! A hotdog would be well welcomed in my stomach, honestly. I hadn’t eaten since lunch at school, which is always ungodly early for some reason, so that was all the more reason for me to swing on by. Oh, and just so you know: contrary to popular belief, hotdogs may be good when grilled, but they are even better from a stand. Especially from a place like Joe’s. He’s such a cool guy! We always talk about baseball, which is nice because he is as big of a fan as I am. Anyway – I digress. So there I was, sitting at my usual spot on the curb. Joe had just given me my usual, so I had just started to chow down. I was focusing so much on eating that I sort of blocked everything else out. I didn’t notice anything else around me. Don’t you hate it when that happens? Well, just as I was about to finish – BAM! Okay, so it wasn’t actually a BAM. It was more of a “Oh, my gosh! I am SO sorry,” kinda thing. After finishing my hotdog, I look up and what do I see? Why, no one other than a girl from Crystal Academy. Believe me, journal; if you were thinking what I was thinking, you were having an “OH SHI--!” moment, too. I thought she was going to berate me for sitting down on the curb. It wasn’t like that at all, actually, though. She apologized for almost stepping on me. It wasn’t her fault, really. I got up and apologized to her, saying that I shouldn’t have been in the way. Then, so as to not be rude, I introduced myself. Her name is Aurora Namid, and today was the day I made a new friend. Apparently, she had never had a hotdog from a stand before. …I know, journal! I was thinking the exact same thing: she has never lived! So, what did I do? Why, I did what any gentleman would do, and I bought her one. It was common courtesy, you know. She had to experience them sometime. What better way to do it than with the guy you almost stepped on a newfound friend! All in all, I think she really enjoyed them, and that made me happy. Aurora got excited when she found out I had a dog. That’s kind of typical for girls – they all seem to love them. Since she was so excited about it, though, I figured I’d invite her along to the park the next time I took Babe. She said yes, and we have plans to meet up on Sunday. Basically – although what had happened today was a bit out of the ordinary for me – I had a good time. I made a new friend, and I’m going to see her again soon. It can’t really get any better than that. Although, I will say it was a bit surprising how things turned out. Perhaps it was fate? Until next time, Skip P.S. Just kidding about the fate thing. You know I wouldn’t get all sentimental on you, journal. [Word Count - 589]

Solo RP – The Early Bird Gets the…Bird? [Skip & his Grandpa]; Complete “Rise and shine, Skip!”
“…Mmmhhhphh…~”
“Up and at’em, my boy!”
“Ugghh…no...”
“Skip, get up!”
Just a few moments earlier, Jackson “Skip” Parker was peacefully sleeping in bed. The dream he had been having, although he couldn’t remember it exactly, had been a sweet one. It was toasty under the covers, just perfect for hunkering down on cool nights. Skip cherished nights like this, since they didn’t happen all that often. Yet today, unfortunately, it was all cut short. The boy was jarred out of his slumber by his elderly grandfather, an eccentric man named Fritz Parker. And to make matters worse, if waking him up by talking was enough, the old man proceeded to yank away his blankets.
“Okay, grandpa,” Skip muttered sleepily as he slid out of bed. There was a bit of annoyance in his voice, but there was no point in arguing now. This situation replayed itself over and over at least once every weekend. Both of them had gotten used to it by now. “I’m up…I’m up…” Despite his grandson’s slow start, this was the day of the week that both of them looked forward to the most. This was their bird-watching day.
Still half-asleep, the Meadowview student found himself stumbling over to his mirror. It didn’t surprise him when he peered in at his reflection to see his hair sticking in every direction possible. Tufts of white hair streaked with blue and red stuck up everywhere, and some even tangled in the back. Dang! He must have been sleeping deeper than he thought.
As he began to brush out his hair in his signature style, Skip glanced back at his grandpa, who was waiting patiently as always. “What time is it?” Fritz didn’t even bother to look at the watch on his wrist; he knew what time it was. “It’s almost five, Skippy. Now put some pep in your step and let’s get a move on; we don’t want to miss anything.” That was all the boy needed to hear.
Everything else seemed to happen in a blur. The sound of a brush frantically being combed through his hair, followed by the opening and closing of multiple drawers could be heard. The fumbling of clothes came next as Skip fought to get on his clothes. Two minutes later, he was finished, fully clothed and ready to go.
“All set,” the boy told his grandfather, holding up the binoculars draped around his neck to show he was set. “Let’s go!”
It didn’t take the pair long to get to their usual bird-watching spot. The drive was probably around twenty minutes, but it always seemed to go by faster than that. Perhaps it was because the two of them were always so anxious to get there? Skip couldn’t say for sure. All he did know was that these trips with his grandpa were one of the highlights of his week.
“Think they’ve hatched yet?”
“I don’t know, Skip; we’ll have to see.”
“I bet they are!”
His grandfather merely chuckled as they reached their usual bird-watching spot. This was so like Skip. Always excited and anxious to see what had happened to the birds within the past week. Luckily for Fritz, this activity was one of the few he was actually able to calm his grandson down for. If there was one thing Skip lacked, it was patience, but somehow he always managed to muster up as much as he could for their bird watching. For that, the old man was grateful.
“Look, grandpa,” Skip said, pointing a finger out to the distance as he gazed through his binoculars. “They did it! They hatched!”
For the past couple of weeks, the two of them had been keeping an eye on a particular nest. This nest, specifically, was the nest of a wood thrush. The mother had already laid her eggs after they discovered the home. This, his grandfather noted once they found it, would make it the perfect nest to keep track of and watch, so that they could monitor the progress of the eggs.
Their patience had paid off. After days and days of waiting, the eggs had finally hatched, revealing chicks that were ready to start their lives. The high schooler’s eyes seemed to sparkle as he gazed at the eggs from afar, and that caused his grandpa to smile. Although he hadn’t wanted to get up in the beginning, this was definitely worth it. Both of them would agree on that.
[Word Count - 747] Skip's Journal - Entry 34 Dear Journal, So there I was, peacefully sleeping in my bed. Dreams were playing in my mind – you know, the kind you don’t want to end because they are so wonderful? Well, guess what happened. That’s right…they were interrupted by my grandfather, no doubt. He always seems to come in at the worst times… “Wake up, Skip,” he said to me. Get up? Was he serious? C’mon, gramps – lemme sleep for just a little longer. “Up and at’em, my boy,” Five more minutes…(- A-);; And then what does he do? Yanks my blankets away from me and off of my bed! Uggh…I could have screamed. It was cold in my room! Anyway, there was no use trying to fight with him after that, so what did I do? I got up. For the record, though – if it were anyone else and not my grandpa, I probably would have stayed in bed. But my gramps is a cool guy, so I decided to oblige him. My hair was a mess, as usual. I’m lucky, you know? If I had a sibling, just think of all of the embarrassing pictures they could get of me with my bedhead. God…just thinking about it is horrible. I’m glad I’m an only child. Then again…who’s to say my grandpa won’t do it. He’s a pretty crazy old guy; that sort of thing would be right up his alley. …Remind me to keep a closer eye on him. Apparently, it was five in the morning when grandpa woke me up. Uggh…what is it with old people and getting up early? They don’t even force themselves to get up that early, it just happens naturally. I don’t get it. DX I would never want to wake up that early on my own. I guess he has a reason, though, now that I think about it. Today is our weekly birdwatching day, you see. Every week, he and I go out and watch various birds or nests that we’ve been keeping track of. It may sound like a boring hobby, but it’s actually pretty fun. Grandpa and I have been doing it for a while now, and he was the one who got me into the whole thing. That’s his job, after all. Grandpa Fritz is an ornithologist. Anyway…so after hearing what time it was, I hurried up and got dressed. Leaving early in the morning is the best, or so grandpa says. He likes to be there when the birds start their routines for the day, and I can’t blame him. It’s the best time to watch. I was excited to go birding today. For the past few weeks, he and I have been keeping track of one nest in particular. A wood thrush recently laid some eggs, and we were keeping note of the days up until they hatched. Well, guess what…THEY HATCHED! Maaan…it was such an awesome sight to see! The little chicks were so adorable. Looking back on this morning’s outing with my grandpa, I’m glad I decided to wake up. Seeing the chicks made it so worth it. Until next time, Skip

Skip's Journal - Entry 41 Dear Journal, There was a half-day at school today. My teammates and I were supposed to go to the track as soon as classes got out for some conditioning practice. Guess how many of them showed up? That’s right: none. Not a single guy from the team came to the track like I asked them to. I guess, in some respect, I don’t really blame them. They probably just want to relax on their half day without having to worry about baseball for once. Honestly, though? We have a game coming up soon, so they need to get their heads in the game! It’s a bit annoying when you’re the only one on the team who shows any sort of dedication. Well, whatever… To my surprise, someone else showed up to the track shortly after I did: Karmi Fauxtiev. I should have figured she would show up there. It’s not that surprising, considering she’s on the track team and all. She and I got to talking since we were the only two kids out there, and it was actually pretty cool. Well, Karmi tripped at one point, and that had me worried, but you get the idea. She asked if I wanted to jog with her around the track, so I said yes. Running with a partner is a whole lot better than running by yourself. You at least have someone else to talk to with a partner! It’s interesting how much she and I have in common. We are both athletic and into sports; her with track and me with baseball. The two of us both have streaks in our hair. Karmi only has one streak, however, in comparison to my multiple ones. There are also things that we own that she and I both hold with particular value. With her, it’s her necklace. She says that without it, she feels lost, which I can completely understand. I’m the same way with my sunglasses, as you know. I never go anywhere without them if I can help it! When we had finished with our jogging for the day, Karmi asked me another question. She asked if I wanted to continue to run with her every month on the half-days, which was really kind of her to ask. As I pondered her question, a thought occurred to me: why would I just run with her on the half-days once a month when I can run with her every week? Getting in conditioning like that would keep me in shape not only for baseball, but during the off-season as well. Long story short – she and I will be meeting once a week on Fridays after school in order to go jogging. This won’t only allow us to keep fit, but it will let us get to know one another better as well. And you know me, journal; I always enjoy making new friends. Until next time, Skip
