Hmm. At a correct slide position your top half will be positioned in the same way as if you were marching forward.
Does marching forward give you grief?
If not, it's your sliding posture.
Do you play flute? I could do it with another instrument just fine. Flute is a b***h to march with, but hey if I didn't love it I wouldn't have played it for the last 9 years. even though I have played for a long time I didn't start marching until college. Its a fairly common problem with flutes, at least three or four other girls in my section can't play during left slides either, one of theses being our section leader, who has been marching for at least 8 years.
