Actually, disrespect here [at my school] is getting better. A few years ago, the football players actually applauded the band after the game. I was all O_O That was back when I was just in Jr. high band and I was at my brother's game.

God. The people at my school treat the band like crap. First, we get a bad rep because 'we don't play enough at games'. Well, stupid human, that's cause we only play when the OTHER team has the ball and when the cheerleaders aren't cheering. Then, every time they lose, the football team blames us for not playing enough, but when they win, we don't get so much as a thank you!
And NOW we have to learn cheers for the cheerleaders. If I wanted to be a cheerleader, instead of going to the band room and practice field everyday to work my butt of memorizing music, set changes, and visuals for our show, I'd go to the auxiliary gym, and work my a** off there.
And don't get me started on the comments that people give us when we march by. I always hope someone stands in front of me so I can run them over. Honestly, if they're standing in front of us purposely, they deserve it. I've heard people say 'Oh, band's so easy! All they do is walk around in circles and play music!' I was so close to turning around, giving them my mellophone and say, 'Hey, asshat! If it's so easy, then why don't YOU hold this thing up for eight and a half minutes?'
Ugh. My rant's done for now.

Wow, do we go to the same school? XD Same thing happens here. I sit next to a football player in English, and he was like "I've heard abnd has long rehearsals and does things on staurdays sometimes." Then the other football palyer behind me was saying that he thought it looked easy, and that we were jsut walking around a field. I set hm straight, and explained to them exactly how hard marching band is. I also told them to try marchingv around for 3 hours, standing at attention most of that time, with an nstrument in your hands, and they shut upXD Oh, and you only have to stay at attention for 8 minutes? I think our record(last Monday rehearsal. we worked our butts off last monday, but it was soooo worth it) was 1 hour. then we got a 3 minute water break. oh, and try clarinet horn pops at my school. Newest form of tortureXD especially when my BD makes us stay at horn pop while he is working with another group for ten minutes. at this rate, I'm going to need a chiropractor before senior yearXD

Cause if it is, we might just very well go to the same school.

So, I am delightfully amazed. Apparnetly, our principle at least respects our hard work. We were announced for the very first time since I've been in abnd on the announcements, and we have a electric sign outside our school that advertises things like meetings and things that happen that are exciting. Well, we drove past it on the way home today and it actually said Congrats to the band for their superior at band day0.o First time that has happened...And our principle appeared at our rehearsal last night too(we finished our show finally!)

Our football team can't decide whether it likes us or hates us. two weeks ago we stayed home from an away game that was fairly far away and rainy. next week, the football team blames us for their loss saying "we pump them up so they can win." The next week they get mad at us because, apparently we steal attention from every organization out there. Though the student body at least respects us. OH how i love to show non band members how to jazz run and march at 180/210 for 10 minutes. of course i tell them to blow out the entire time....PE can be soooo much fun.

I don't know if my story is disrespect, but I wanna share a story: I live in Southern California (San Diego) and 3 years ago we had that massive fire storm, remember? Well the school we were playing didn't get a chance to do a Senior-Walk-On-The-Field thing and so we let them. It took about 5 min for them to be done and we rushed onto the field to play. So! Last game of the Season and we're fired up right? Well... the last couple sets or so either the cheerleaders put their paper up too early, or the football team just didn't see us and started running through the paper. We were still on the field. Colorguard was on the edge. Guess what happened? Some footballers ran through us while others were smart (for once) and ran around us. A Colorguard sprained her ankle and there were reports of football people saying "Get the ******** off our field." Now, thats the last game of the Season! How would you feel?? And that was my freshman year too. ToT So the Seniors were crying in anger and our BD made us leave. A week and a half later, we got an apology from the football team via a pizza party. I'll never forget though and the tape that we used to tape ourselves is destroyed. I want to see it though.

My highschool football team was horrible and the band rocked so i'm sure they would've liked to do that to us...... Except i was the biggest guy in the entire school and band people were beasts. We got some respect but in college its amazing, our football team rocks and we are masters on field and everybody loves us.

Honestly guys I love the band, I can hear "Shout it out" or something from the game field, and it makes the blood run through me veins. Wait for college guys, you get respect there. I know my team appreciates the band, heck they travel with us everywhere. They are also our best cheering section. I hope this makes some people happy here wink

aawww!!!!! That's so mean of the administrators!!!!! That must have been terrible for him to listen to them say! yentihWi A few weeks ago our BDs had a meeting with the administartors of the school district. They basically told him our band sucks and we cant perform our competiton show anymore at home games because its not entertaining enough for the crowd who couldnt give a crap about us anyways. And hes not doing an adiquite(sp?) job teaching us, which hes the best and we all love him. So last saturday at our first competiton when we sucked it up on accident he apoligized and said its his fault and we all said no its not. Bus one had an emotional trip home with him that night. Hes the best. The football players and cheer leaders disrepect us. The teachers never say "Hey you rocked friday night" We never get recognized on the morning announcements. I was shocked that for our first comp they said "Congratulations Pride of Piqua marching band for their second place award at Bellbrook saturday" Its so stupid how looked down upon the band is. I have never once seen a teacher at our band competiton we hold every september. Its so stupid. But what really got me is what the admins said to our head BD. And after last saturday Mahaney realized why he loves us so much. Band is a big deal. And everybody thinks its so stupid. I hate football players and cheerleaders.

Short story: Okay so we were playing at our homecoming game and than our band director told us to all wave at the dance team and cheerleaders. SO we waved....and waved....and waved...and waved...shall I go on? But we kept waving for about TWENTY MINUTES! Until about TWO people from the dance team FINALLY noticed! And they didn't even wave back! And the cheerleaders didn't even NOTICE us and we have a whole bleacher full of people waving and shouting at them....but in the end me and my friend were just like "Talk about invisible!" We got really mad. We pay attention to the cheerleaders that should to us. That wasn't HUGE but it feel made me feel like they didn't care or even think about the band that much.
Another short story: Okay, this Jock dude used to be in band but he quit. So I asked him why he quit and he said "Cause it was dumb and band is gay." So I about punched him into next year! I mean I was FURIOUS! I blew up on him!
