I love corsets and wear them mostly on the outside of my clothes since they are very lacy and elegant looking and it would be a shame to let such frills go to waste. heart

That just seems silly to me. Do you leave off shoes so people can see your socks? Your skirt so that everyone can see your pretty panties? I appreciate wanting cute underwear, I have a large collection of it myself. But I, personally, keep it for my own amusement.

I do not wear corsets with lolita, though there are those who do. I've seen people go both ways, with corsets worn as they're intended to be, under the clothes, and others wearing them as external decoration. Most of those worn outside are either "fashion corsets" with very little actual structure to them or decorative cinchers a la Excentrique. I've seen a few girls wearing their Timeless Trends pieces on the outside, though, for gothic or ero coordinates.
Personally, I'm rather itching to get a corset from Timeless Trends, Trashy Diva, or Gallery Serpentine, to wear under a few of my skirts that are a bit tighter than I personally care for in a skirt. They're not uncomfortable in the least, but the style of elastic in the back tends to make my blouses poof out awkwardly if I tuck them in, and I hate that. If I had access to someone who did them up custom, I'd do that instead, but alas. I don't know of any local seamstresses who do that sort of work.
It doesn't hurt that I've been rather wanting to do a progressions photoshoot [ie: evolution of dressing, from bloomers and camisols to the full-blown outfit over time] with some friends of mine for quite some time, either. Somehow, a corset has the right touch of antiquity for the project, in my opinion.
There's also an underbust corset-c**-bodice that I want from Scoundrelle's Keep that's absolutely badass. I've seen it worn in their fashion shows paired with a Victorian-inspired bustle skirt. It totally wouldn't be appropriate for lolita due to how low it sits on the hips, but in solid black, it could be damn awesome in an aristocrat coordinate.

I don't really need one, but I like to wear them for loose fitting dresses. I'm not very full, so overbust corsets help with this.
I'm still looking for underbusts' that suit my taste print wise.

Hence my not linking to it.

Kittywitch namida_no_chi From what I've seen, corsets are usually decorative and worn outside of your outfit. Though wearing corsets and tightening them until your waist was inhumanly small used to be in style, it's somewhat frowned upon today blaugh Technically, if it's on the outside, it's a bodice, not a corset. And, not to nitpick, but if someone wasn't wearing their corset outside their clothing, how could you see it? Bodices are defined as the upper part of a [woman's] dress, so a corset can still be worn on the outside and not be considered a bodice, if is not actually attached to the dress but it's own individual article of clothing. There are some good examples of what I'm talking about in the gosurori magazines, but I don't have any pictures on hand. Though not exactly lolita, this is an example of a corset meant to be worn for fashion (ie outside of your clothes where people can see it) http://www.orchardcorset.com/thumbnail.asp?file=assets/images/Corset/Strapless/6709OrchidJLK.jpg&maxx=300&maxy=0Not all corsets are meant to be seen. As I said, you have the decorative kind which are worn on the outside of a garment (I think bodyline also used to sell them once upon a time, the type will all of the lace and ribbons on them). Then there are others meant for the purpose of actually shaping the body, and as these are usually meant for function and not decoration, they're usually a little more plain and intended to be worn under your clothing. http://www.orchardcorset.com/assets/images/Rago/Rago21.jpgThe original question I was addressing was speaking of corsets used in style (ie, outside of your garments), and wearing them underneath as a separate question. I answered both.

I've never worn one before so I don't have any 'words of wisdom'. xD
I think that they actually would be very useful in getting a nice shape for the lolita outfit when worn under.
But as for wearing over clothes, I think that it fits ero-loli only.

Well, I have seen classic lolita outfits using wraist-corsets over blouses or high-wraist corset skirts but I think that only works with certain blouses and corset shapes but I don't think that I would wear it myself since corsets and my back just won't work together.

Timeless Trends is amazing! They definitely help also with keeping petticoats in place. There's this pretty pink and floral one that I would love to own (I just have a black one from forever ago). No one would see it but, it's just be so much fun to know that your pretty all over. I am dying for something from Scoundrelle's Keep (but for a steampunk look) The Sabine corset= A.M.A.Z.I.N.G *swoons*

Custom-fit clothing is expensive. XD I'm thinking that I may order the Lyric corset dress come the spring and summer convention season. It'd be really great for an edgier take on classic or gothic lolita, I think, with the right colors and coordination.

I think it would definitely look fantastic. And from what I can tell (though don't quote me on this) you can choose the colors of the dress to fit the needs of your coordinate. If you get it, you must let me know how you like it! (though I am sure it will be excellent)

They're all made to order, yes, so that's definitely something I'd do. I really like the idea of it in a burgundy corduroy or a black brocade of some sort.
I wonder if they'd make the Veruca or Sabine into a dress version if requested? That'd be pretty gorgeous...
Also, I found this seller on eBay who stocks factory second corsets now and then: Rockabilly Girl Clothing.
They're $40 plus shipping, factory seconds from Corset Connection.com.
