Chana chuckled weakly and raised her head, still not looking directly at Cassidy. "Yeah...I don't think I could recognize temptation right now if I saw it."
Then something else that Cassidy had said registered. "Turning into? What...like some weird fantasy novel?" It had been a long time since she'd read or thought about something like that...she was incurably rusty on the subject.

"Not really like a fantasy novel. More like science fiction." Cassidy sighed. "It's like this, I guess... Moreau's doing some DNA experimentation. He's got us off here in the middle of nowhere, quite safe from any sort of government authority, and he's experimenting on our DNA using animal DNA. We can't leave, even if we were able to, because without the next injection, we'd get cancer. It's... disgustingly clever." She snorted, her tongue flickering again. "And also terribly illegal."
She gave Chana a worried look; it was a lot to take in.

Chana tried to understand what Cassidy was saying. She could tell the woman truly and wholly believed what she said, and that she was resigned to it. But Chana simply couldn't understand the words that came from her mouth. She could hear the words being spoken, but whatever original meaning they contained had drifted away, leaving her with strange syllables that made no impression.
She frowned, confused. "I'm sorry...could you repeat that?"

"DNA experiments. They're turning us into animals, or animal... things, anyway, against our will." Cassidy looked away, awkwardly. "I know. It's really hard to believe. I don't think most people really believe until they hit their first change."

The only word that Chana truly understood was "animals." Which really didn't do her any good. She was getting nervous again, heartrate climbing steadily and pupils starting to contract.
"Animals," she echoed. Then she applied what she could remember in her frantic searching. "G-d created animals on...on...not the first day or the second day. Was it the third? I can't remember..." For the moment, she forgot Cassidy and her strangeness.

Cassidy stared, perplexed.
"Here," she said suddenly, "calm down. I know it's really... I..."
She didn't know what to say.

"No...it was the sixth day. Birds and fish on the fifth, but the rest, including Adam on the sixth. Funny...Adam with the animals.."
Abruptly, in the middle of Chana's muttering, her eyes refocused. She blinked and smiled at Cassidy without really looking at her once more.
"Nice to meet you, Cassidy. How long have you been here, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Er. About..." She had to think about this; it came rather suddenly, after all. "About three months. Are you sure you're okay?"

"I think I'm well enough. That water really helped. Thanks," she told Cassidy with a positive tone as she pulled herself back up to a standing position against the wall.
"If you came here three months ago, it must have been sweltering. Not to mention hurricane season," Chana commented aimlessly.

"We did have some wicked storms," Cassidy agreed.
This was... worrying. She knew that she herself was awful for avoiding reality, but... this was on an entirely different scale of things.
But the air conditioning was getting to her. She couldn't think very clearly. "Do you want to go outside, get some fresh air? It'd do us both good."

"Sure," Chana agreed. "Want me to push you?" she asked, smiling.
As long as she didn't see things that weren't possible, she'd be fine. Right?

"Thanks, but I can handle it." The door was a bit tricky, but necessity and practice had dealt with that; Cassidy was soon outside.
She kept a close eye on Chana. She still wasn't sure the girl wouldn't faint.

Chana followed outside, keeping her eyes up. It seemed to be helping. The sky was such a shade of blue as she'd never truly seen before.
"It really is amazing, being here," she commented softly.

"I suppose that's the word for it. It is... very pretty." Cassidy fluffed her feathers; the warm sun was already helping to perk her up.
She popped another bit of meat into her mouth, swallowed quickly.

Chana winced at Cassidy's...eating habits. But...it wasn't her place to remark on things like that.
"So...what do you do for fun?" she asked in a more positive tone of voice. That was a safe enough question, right? Chana smacked herself mentally. There was no better way to say "I have no clue what I'm saying, but I'm also not sure how to end this conversation." It was a position that she was (sadly) familiar with.
