I have also questioned if i should or should not watch Harry Potter. I still watch the movies and read the books, but i always say to myself "It's a story. It's not real. It's just for fun". This helps me alot.

I am not reading everything.
Anyways...
when the first ones came out, me, my best friend and our friend all played harry potter. We had 'wands' (bamboo sticks we found on the playgroud) and we 'cast spells'. We all knew they weren't real. We just liked to play and act out the lives of other characters. I got to be Harry. ^^ He was Ron and then she was Hermione. and it was FUN. It was a game, and we knew it was. As long as you aren't caught up in believing what you read and see without background evidence (Like, hmm.. textbook vs Harry Potter..come on people) then there isn't a problem.

I have been an avid Harry Potter reader myself and one day, right after the 6th came out, there was a discussion in my high school Sunday School class; we asked this: is it ok to read and watch Harry Potter and still beleive in Christ?
Well one of our seniors stood up and said "I don't think that reading the books is causing harm if we don't beleive in what they are saying. The woman who writes them is an excellent writer, and I beleive that God wouldn't have given her such a gift if He had not intended on her using it. As long as we stay strong in our faith, and don't start trying to fly and cast spells, then we are just fine reading them." End of discussion.
btw pray for him he went into the army 6 months following this discussion.

I've had a similar problem with a book like that. Eldest, from The Inheritance Trilogy, the next book to Eragon. Anyways, Harry Potter... Sheesh... It has a lot of stuff in it, that's like WAYYY out there. Totally witchcraft. But it is without a doubt teh awsum. <3 My mom is a Christian fantasy writer, and thus she knows lots of other fantasy writers. Every single one of them, LOVES the Harry Potter series. As long as you don't get into the witchcraft, Then there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
Take Ron Luce, for example. Head of Teen Mania, totally on fire for God kinda guy... Guess what his favorite movie is? This is really funny, I remembered the name, and it just slipped outta my head. Lawl. But it's a big vampire movie, that I'm not even allowed to watch. I think it's Blade, but I dunno.
Anyways, yeah. Don't get into the witchcraft, And focus on the good stuff. TONS of great things can be pulled out of Harry Potter.

people has told me that reading harry potter and all other dark creatures of the night stories isnt liked. my sunday school teacher told me this. but personally i think as long as its just for the fiction and you dont really believe this stuff, its okay. as for the killing video game thing, i dont know.

okay back on the killing thing, i think its okay as long as its in a video game. i mean the game is meant for that isnt it. just as long as it stays in the game. not like killing someone and/or their spirit. the end.

I don't see a problem with Harry Pottter. The book does not encourage witchcraft. It's FANTASY! If thei book does encourage you into such things then it is you who is mistaken on the books message.

I don't think anyone can really say if Harry Potter is 'bad' or not. I think for some people, it would be dangerous to read it, and for others it would be just fine. When I started reading the books I prayed about it alot and I felt comfortable doing it. However, I know some people who should never read it, just because of their personalities and tendancies.
For what it's worth, I believe the author has good intentions and the over all good vs. evil idea in the whole series is clean and wholesome.
But I believe it really has to be an individual decision, one between you and God.

Harry Potter is a marvelous work of fiction for most folks, and the rare times it has warped a young mind I suspect that mind had other problems long before they read those books.
Video games, on the other had, are much more engaging and interactive. Studies have shown that kids who engage in killing in violent games (or even watch a lot of violence on TV) are more violent in real life. Fill your life with what you want in your heart. While Harry Potter books are about fighting evil and learning love, violent video games that are just about fighting and killing are poison to your heart and I would avoid them.

1: It is no big deal to read or watch Harry Potter. It's all pretend. 2: It is no big deal to kill people in video games. It's all pretend.
Books, video games, tv, they are all escapes from the busy world. They let us take our minds off of stressful stuff and what not. Problems only start when people don't treat them as such. And might I add my FCA leader is THE BIGGEST Harry Potter fan. He's also one of the best Christians I know. And he's only like 25. He's also our Chemistry teacher, but that's beside the point.
