Utakan Kira the wanderer You lost me when you started mentioning colors xd I though it was black and white. What blues and purples and reds do you speak of? The film IS B&W, but they went in and filtered it with one color (using a computer) so that it was in the various shades of the one color instead. Or something of the like. That sounds about right. They did something to tint different scenes one color.. I'm sure they were proud when they got one scene to be bicolored

The only color I noticed was the red in Erik's RD costume.
Which made the scene look really weird. xd
And I agree that Chaney totally looked like Frankenstein. My friend, who saw an image of him, said that too. (She's no phan, but she read Leroux's book) Even though she only thought that the book was "nice", she was like "isn't Erik supposed to look like a skeleton? o.O"

I saw that one on Saturday! ^^ It was so awesome.
I like Lon Chaney's expressions. Like, when the mob is comming he's like, wide open eyes. ^^ And when he sees Christine and Raoul, He's like screaming on the roof top. Ooh! And when he did those huge grins! Showed all of his teeth! smile
When the chandalier (spelt that wrong, eh?>.<) fell it was so quick XD They made things so fast, twas kinda funny XD
The Masquarade was pretty cool too. Technicolour! "I must know!" *push*

I'm disappointed because there was a store near where I live that was selling this movie, but when I went back the store wasn't there anymore. So I haven't watched this movie yet...

We're doing a film studies class this semester at the college I go to, and my professor kindly lent me a copy of The Phantom of the Opera while we were doing our week of horror flicks (Nosferatu and The Bride of Frankenstein).
Well, I finally had the chance to sit out down and watch it today, and I have to say that it is quite a different experience compared to the musical that I grown to love. Granted, I still think it's really awesome. Erik gave me chills when his face was first revealed, but later I grew to feel that same sense of pity I do for him in the musicals. Lon Chanley really portrayed him to be a very cunning and passionate character, even though I'm sure many viewers of the time saw him as a crafty villain.
Now, I have never read the Gaston Leroux novel (but I will soon!), but I do like this telling of the story of the Phantom. It crushed me when Christine and Raol were reunited at long last within the Phantom's lair, looking into each others eyes while Erik looked so confused and distraught. gonk But then he snatched her away and made his escape. The ending still made me sad, but I had to laugh when he tricked the mob with a little bit of nothing.
Yep. Also, I'd just like to note that in my Alpha Video (DVD) version of the movie, the masked ball scene was the only one in purpleish bicolor hues. The rest was all black and white.

*Cough*YoumisspelledRaoul*Cough*
Actually, this movie is probably the closest version to the book out there. A hundred times closer than the ALW version.
But I have the feeling that you're willing to reach out and grow within the phandom, which is good. You really should read the book, it is completely worth it.
