Mwenye stared at her, his eyes calling to her to join him, almost as if he could see into her soul and command it. As she rose to her paws and padded closer his heart sped up and he worked to calm it, unwilling to let her hear how she affected him. He looked down at his prey when she spoke, trying to find a way to avoid answering her question without seeming like he was doing so. When he realized she wouldn't eat before he did he used that as an excuse to delay in his answer.
Biting into the throat of his prey he began to devour it, not realizing how hungry he had been until he tasted the meat and blood. After awhile he slowed down, remembering that the lioness was still waiting for an answer, and he still hadn't found a good way to dodge the question. He'd have to settle for the truth which would, no doubt, send her running off in the opposite direction, just like all the rest.
"Would you stay with a murderer?" he asked, looking into her eyes, his own flashing with a menacing glimmer almost as if warning her to run, he really didn't want to have the chance to kill her. Just like with the other lions he had been with, all except his kin, any that fell for his act, they all ended up the same way, blood-less corpses.

So much for prince charming. Ilaria watched as he riped open the carcass and devored at least half before he finally came up to breath. She had to surpressed a giggle, but he mind was memorizing everything he did. If he was going to leave she would take every memory she could collect.
It was his answer that caught her off guard. Raising an eyebrow she looked at him, at the blood running down his muzzle. "Murderer?" She asked quizzically, holding herslef back from licking that blood off... how tasty it looked.
"Certainly there was a reason." She stated, more for her own comfort than his. How could her fantasy be a blood-thirsty villian. That was a new story for the books... happuly ever after with the prince villian!

Mwenye was shocked when all he recieved for his answer was a raised brow and a question. Did this lioness have no sense of self preservation? "Yes, murderer. One who takes the life of another of his own kind." he stated, trying to get it through her head that he was dangerous.
As she tried to comfort herself he felt the need to warn her, make her understand what she was getting into. "No... it happens randomly, one moment I can be fine, having a conversation and the next, I am gripped with bloodlust, once that happens nothing can stop it, not even myself. I am dangerous... lioness... do you understand?" he asked and a voice in the back of his mind reminded him that he had yet to get her name.

"Ilaria." She said, her eyes searching his. "My name is Ilaria." She said again, her voice softer. Shaking her head she opened her mouth to speak again. "It does not frighten me. At least, not right now. Perhaps if I saw such an action I'd be frightened." She said with a defensive tone, trying to show him that she was not scared of him, how could she be? Whether she would claim it or not she was in love with her dreams that had him in them, so was she not in love with him?
Finally dipping her head down she began to eat, tearing small pieces away from the lifeless lump that used to be a zebra. Occasionally she would steal a glance at him, how she wondered what he was like when he wasn't all angry and uptight.

Mwenye's heart sped up again as she said her name. "Ilaria" he whispered to himself, the name sounded like that of an angel, a perfect fit for one like her. "You should be frightened, don't you realize that it could happen now? How would you fight me off? I don't want to hurt you, I don't want to hurt anyone, it just happens." he growled low, angry with himself for being overcome by the bloodlust so many times and angry with her for not understanding the threat that he posed to her.
As she began to eat he padded off a short distance, up onto a small hill and sat down once more, overlooking the savannha.

She listened to his words as she filled herself, sure he had a good point but he wasn't about to run her off. It was going to take a lot more then that. His retreating figure worried her and she stopped eating instantly, watching as he sat down not far away. With a sigh of relief she took a few more bites before leaving the rest to the scavangers.
Was he worried for her? Worring about what me might do to her? Before joing him Ilaria sat and thought. She had to come up with a good answer before she returned to him...
It was a short while before her soft footsteps could be heard behind him. Sitting just a little behind and to the side of Mwenye, Ilaria watched him. "I can't be frightened, although I know it can happen. At least you say so." She was about to breach a very dangerous topic. She had heard to the blood-sucking lions but she was to frightened to meet them... but she had a good idea that one was in front of her now. "What if..." She began then stopped and rephrased her thoughts. "If you become so enraged and blood-thirsty... is it because you don't have enough blood to begin with? What if you casually fed off something... someone... would that curb the frenzies?" She said, her head down as she looked at her feet. She didn't want to seem like an idiot but she wanted to help him so desperately.

Mwenye heard her approaching but didn't react at all, he was still lost in thought and trying to convince his body to stop reacting so crazily to her presence. As she spoke he remained silent and still, not even a twitch of his ears to acknowledge he'd heard her. How could she not be frightened? She really didn't have any self preservation skills.
As soon as she continued he turned to look at her, an incredulous expression on his face. Was she really suggesting... how could she think he would do something like that? "NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT!" he roared angrily, glaring at her and snarling furiously. "I am NOT my mother, I will not take blood from anyone I care for, whether they are willing or not, if I can do anything to prevent it!" he growled before turning his back to her and looking off into the distance.
How could he explain that he hated himself for what he was? How could he make her understand he would never hurt someone he cared for if he had anything he could do to prevent it?

She wasn't going to lie to herself, his reaction had statled her. But there had to be some way he wouldn't hurt another... certainly if he had enough blood in him? Her mind was reeling with possiblities but what took up most of her thoughts was the revelation that this lion was one of those blood-suckers.
Her silence would have been obvious to Mwenye, her gaze was at her paws. She didn't know what to do... she knew she wanted to see him again, but how would that be possible if he refused to let her anywhere near? She'd find a solution... even if he didn't like it.
She felt like this was right, to be by his side and help him with this problem, but did he see it that way?

Mwenye sat, waiting for her to respond but she never did and he was glad, perhaps she finally was understanding the reality of the situation. Turning his head slightly to look at her he saw her staring at her paws. Inside his mind and his heart were fighting over what to do, should he leave her to keep her safe, as his mind was arguing, or stay with her and do his best to refrain from hurting her as his heart was saying. Finally the visions filled his memory and he sighed in defeat. If he hurt her... he would never live through it, it would destroy him, but he had to try, his heart had decided that.
"Don't leave me." was all he said, his voice so quiet it could barely be heard. If she had realized the truth then he would not stand in her way but, he knew he couldn't live without her either.

Don't leave me. That was what broke through her thoughts. Slowly she raised her head, a question in her eyes for only a brief moment before they changed to a glimmer of hope. "I can't." Was all she said. Her tail flicked behind her a couple times as a faint smile came to her features. He could be mad with her, but hearing those words had just eased the battle in her mind. She would make him... no. She'd help him realize that doing what it took to stay alive without hurting anyone was worth everything.
Watching him for a momen she rose and walked forward a few steps to sit equal with him. "I can help you..." She murmer softly, her gaze focused on the horizon.

Mwenye looked at her as she sat down beside him. "There is no help for me, I was born to a vampire and that makes me a vampire as well. There is no cure. It is who I am. But I will not hurt you, I couldn't live with myself if I did." he said, turning his head to stare off at the horizon as well.
His tail swished to the side and gently brushed her flank before he realized what was going on and he immediately swung it around and placed his paw on top of it. He would not force his affection on her, that would just make it harder on her.

Vampire. That was what they... he... was called. Her heart fluttered a little as Mwenye told her about the guilt he'd have if he hurt her, it even put a smile to her face. But what sent the delicious shiver down her spine was when his tail brushed her. Her eyes grew a little bigger but she was quick to refocus her features.
Refraining from returning the affection or even pouncing on him and licking and nuzzling him, Ilaria merely smiled. "Was there a place you were heading?" She asked quietly as she stole a glance to his face before returning it to the horizion.

What was it about her that caused him to act so strangely? Never before had he desired contact with another, not even his own family so how was it that she had him wanting to curl up at her paws and stay at her side for eternity? As she spoke it pulled him away from the swirling questions in his mind.
After thinking for a moment he decided to just tell her the truth "I was going to see my mother, and maybe one of my brothers if he is still with her." he stated, still staring off into the distance. Suddenly he was having second thoughts, what if his family attacked her? He didn't want to be responsible for her getting hurt, or worse, killed. "They can wait though." he added, hoping he would be able to deter her from the idea.

"Family?" She said, her ears perking. Her gaze turned on him. He had a family... She could be a part of that family even if she was a friend of the family. That would give her a little more then what she had...
"I-If you want to see them.... I'd love to." She said, her gaze falling to her feet again before she bravely dragged her gaze back up to meet his. "I don't have a family... I... I would like to see what one is like. Even if it's not perfect." She said quietly, getting the feeling that Mwenye didn't get along with his family very well.

Mwenye looked at her when she spoke. His eyes widening, she didn't have a family? No one at all? He frowned, considering his options and finally he sighed. He could protect her from his family, of that he was sure, he just didn't know how she would react after she met them, would that make her flee from his side? His brow furrowed as he considered the consequences of his choice and finally he spoke. "We can go see them. Though I don't know if you'll care for them much, we are... a fairly dysfunctional family at best."
Rising to his paws again he turned in the direction he knew to be the home range of his mother and beckoned Ilaria to follow him with a swish of his tail before setting off at a steady pace across the grasslands.
