It hit a nerve. Keir shuddered and stared at him intently, arching her back she leaned in forward toward him. "I feel like I'm fading away." It was said very calmly. Looking back on the past few years Keir had seen herself grow more and more unfortunate as everything she cared about was rejected by her own selfishness and destructive nature. Perhaps it was because she couldn't be content living happily and at ease with herself. Perhaps it was because she felt the need to constantly push boundaries and alter people's perceptions of her.
Either way, she knew she was troubled.
"I... had a daughter." The cat Fa'e finally admitted. "I don't know. It's complicated." She smiled at Hoshi quickly and glanced at the menu.
"Gee. I guess I am hungry. How about you Keene?" You actually care? He was bemused. "Looks like I'm in a good mood!" This won't last long! Keene cackled.

"Complicated?" Hoshi asked, glancing briefly at the menu. His eyes lit on soup, and he decided that would be good enough. Discussing this with her was far more interesting than perusing the menu looking for something when he wasn't overly hungry anyway. "What's complicated about it?" His own relationship with Sei was relatively complicated, admittedly, but he'd been unable to be there for so very long...

"It has been so long," she whined, almost upset about the fact. The year alone had softened her.
"So long," she repeated whimsically, remembering the birth. Dustin always felt so detached from her during her pregnancy. She always knew her daughter was never hers. It had never felt right. Maybe she hadn't allowed it to feel 'right'. There were too many conflicting emotions and her immature nature hindered her. Keir wouldn't of suited motherhood.
"I am happy knowing she is nowhere near me. She will get on better." The chance meeting at the abortion clinic seemed so long ago, such a painful memory.
Winicing, Keir ordered a cheeseburger for herself, and a dish of milk and a portion of salmon for Keene. "What are you having?" She asked Hoshi, referring to the waiter impatiently tapping his pad aside them.
"...Shut up you fool!" Keir glared. I knew it wouldn't last long, Keene snickered to himself.

"Split pea soup, please," Hoshi said. "And some iced tea." He looked over at Keir solemnly. "Why do you think she's better off without you?" he pushed, his voice gentle. "Does her guardian not like you?"
Not that he knew Zero all that well, really... but she'd seemed a good soul to him, and he'd gotten the feeling that they could get along, and that she could definitely be trusted to guide Sei. Really, he was looking forward to getting to know her better as he got to know Sei better.
"Or is there more to it than that?"

"Of course there is." She snapped angrily at him as the waiter trailed away. "You wouldn't understand anyway. You're no woman, and you still look like a Fa'e. I'd say things are going pretty well for you," Keir played with her cutlery impatiently, eyes darting about as she analyzed the table. Hoshi had grown irritable in his assumptions.
Someone is grouchy, Keene chuckled at her, before watching Hoshi's reaction.
"...Hungry." She confirmed flatly,"just hungry."

Hoshi stared at Keir for several quiet moments after her diatribe finished, trying to figure out precisely how to respond to it. Or really, how to respond to her, when it came right down to it. Her emotions seemed so drastically random that he was really having a lot of trouble keeping up, and he could only hope that quiet words and a calm demeanor, along with a bit of food, might help her stabilize somehow.
"You're right," he said after a bit, folding his hands on the table between his own cutlery, and looking at her steadily. "I'm not a woman. As far as looks... it seems to me that the outside isn't as important as the inside. Particularly not here in Gaia, where there are such wildly varied beings walking down the street. But certainly a loss of what you're used to can... ache." He paused, then asked, as gently as he could manage, "Have you tried to get to know your daughter?"

Largely ignoring his rhetoric she peered at Keene who was now floating around her, evidently impatient and ready to eat as well. "...I didn't try. I never saw a point." Keir finally responded, returning her attention to Hoshi briefly. "...Like I said, she will get on better without me. It has been too long. I hope she hates me. I hope she never wants to see me again." The Fa'e looked at Keene carefully and smiled thoughtfully.
"...Because I know... That... Leaving her behind... Well... That's the best thing I could ever have done for her."
The cat peered at her curiously. Hoshi's influence had certainly brought out a different side, a more relaxed and admissive side. Certainly more adult.
Wow Keir, he snorted, that hunger of yours is going to your brain.

As Keir continued, Hoshi found himself frowning. How could she... how could ANYONE... think that there was no point to knowing her own child? He sighed slowly, opening his mouth to speak before closing it as the waiter came to set food down in front of them both. Quietly, he waited for the waiter to leave before speaking.
"Keir," he said quietly, and he couldn't make his face as impassive or relaxed as he would've liked. "Are you being honest with yourself?" Simple words, but a true question nonetheless.

Keir stared at him intently for a moment. She seemed almost outraged he would suggest she wasn't being open. Keir's philosophy in life was to be open, and confront issues - even if it meant coming off as a cold b***h. She was used to that description of her by now.
However when it came to family, or things closest to her. She would shut. And the defensive mechanism would kick in.
"What? What do you know anyway? What do you care?" Keir snapped back.
