It was about that time that voices started to filter down through the tunnels. One being a loud, deep booming voice of a certain captain and accompanied by the voice of an Owsla.
"By Frith and Inle he's been at it again? Will anything shut that embleer hlessi up?" Cocklebur's enraged voice was unmistakable as he and his reporting Owsla passed through a crossing tunnel up ahead. They did not notice either of the outskirters and merely went on their way. Their voices eventually fading away into a mere echo.
However, it was some moments later that another voice spoke up behind them.
"Well well. What's this now? You know, you two could get in a lot of trouble for being down here."

The young female felt her eyes widen at the reply her new friend gave, both excited and nervous by this 'surprise'. The second reply made Heather's jaw drop, fur standing to attention. The Owsla? Wasn't this the area her marli had sworn her away from? Holding in the squeek of fear that wanted to escape, not wanting to draw attenion to themselves, she pressed closer against Rainfall, soft bronze eyes wide and flickering this way and that.
The sudden booming vocals of the fearsom Captain sent Heather skittering in panic, fleeing from her friend's side she shot head-first into the wall of the burrow, squirming into a space she crouched, shivering, hopeing desperatly that the large scary Captain didn't see them.
As the voices faded again the young female took a quivering breath and went limp with relief, flopping down on her belly, only slowly regathering her wits. Wha....... the wall was rather.... warm.... and fluffy....? Huge eyes lifted, amazingly, widening yet further as the young female stared up at the solid, furry chest of a certain Chief.
Utter horror gripped her as she realised she lay splayed out flat between the Chief's strong front paws, the 'wall' she had collided with having been the dark-brown rabbit himself. Mouth opening and closing yet without any sound escaping, she could only stare up at him, both petrified of possibly having angered him and mortified for having run into him.
"..... ah..." The tiny slip of a sound finally escaped, yet she seemed entirely unable to move, frozen to the spot with ears quivering, half expecting one of those large paws near her head to send her flying.

Rainfall's fear was unmistakeable as she shrank against the well worn earth that she stood upon. She was afraid of Cocklebur, even though she bluffed like there was no tomorrow.
Of course she had reason to fear him... She had never seen the sick doe that he had beaten, but she had heard whispers about the runs, thanks to her curious nature. He wasn't a rabbit to be crossed. Not at all.
She gave a sigh of relief as the voices faded, leaving the safe and peace of quiet behind with her and her new friend. She hadn't expected another to be so near. As soon as the new voice reached her ears, she stiffened and turned. Heather was running... Right into him?
"Ah-ah-ah-errrrr, we ain't doin' nothin' bad, sir, just 'splorin' an' I guess we got lost, yeah, that's it." She began talking, spewing out an excuse she had used too many times in the past, before her mind even began to comprehend the situation. This was their chief! Was he going to eat them? A cold shudder traced down her spine as she backed a pawstep away.

Bracken looked down and chuckled at the youngster who managed to run right into his chest. The poor thing nearly going tharn as she stared up at him in clear fright. However, his paws made no move to strike her.
Instead, his gaze went over to the other one and he smirked a little at her story. However, the chief wasn't born yesterday and knew full well that they were not lost.
"Is that so? Then suppose I shall have to escort you both back to your marlis, who are bound to be worried sick."

Wide eyes watched the chief as he looked down at her, her own widening ever further, looking like saucers as she stared up at him. Yet then.. he smiled? His voice slowly filtered through her fear, he sounded... warm.. and....and kind...
Heaving a great sigh of relief the young kitten sagged weakly, before lifting herself onto her paws, only slightly unsteady from her fright. "Im realy sorry, Bracken-rah Sir." Edging back to Rainfall the little female stared shyly at her paws.

As Heather backed away, slipping beside Rainfall, the reddish-brown doe gulped audibly. It wasn't just any rabbit. It was that rabbit. What ever lying streak ran beneath her striped fur vanished completely, along with any hopes that they would of succeeded anyways.
"S-sorry, S-sir." She mumbled and glanced down at her paws. She had no idea just what to say. He was the Chief, so he had to of known all, right? Her ears flattened along her back and she struggled to find what to say.
"We can find our way back, I think, okay? N-no need to trouble you, Bracken-rah, Sir."

Bracken nodded at their apologies. "No harm done. Just so long as the two of you have learned your lessons."
Sitting up on his hinds, the tattered aging rabbit was like a giant compared to the young ones. He smirked once more as one of them tried to assure him they could find their way back on their own.
"Now now, I insist. Its not every day that I get to escort two lovely young does."
The chief grinned and looked at one then the other. "So, do tell me your names and who your marlies are?"

Heather kept herself pressed close against her friend, peering round Rainfall to gaze up at Bracken-rah with a kind of nervous wonder. He was not at all like she had expected.. having envisioned someone bigger and tougher than even Cocklebur who would keep everyone in their place with only a look and a flex of deadly claw. But the chief was being... kind to them, and he even sounded.. amused? not angry like she would have expected. Yet he was the chief and he was still scary... but it was a nice kind of scary, she finally decided as he asked after their marli. Swallowing she gathered what little courage she possessed and edged out from behind Rainfall tentatively. "I'm Heather... Brackenrah-sir." She murmured breathlessly in her typically soft, shy voice. "My marli is Teasel." Pressing her forepaws together she squirmed, both nervous and relieved to escape the endless unknown tunnels and get back to familiar ground.
