Athena's ears flattened at the whispered question, and she stared long and hard into the eyes of the mad wolf standing before her. Her gaze flickered to each of the wolves surrounding her, and she realized that Thanatos' offer would be the only way to keep her life. She would die as soon as a negative answer left her maw.

Sighing, she met his bi-colored eyes and gave an almost imperceptible nod.

Grinning maleciously, Thanatos wagged his tail once in triumph, standing tall to loam above his underlings. "My pack . . . this is a boon with which we have been blessed. For you see, little Athena here knows where we must go. Don't you . . . ?"

Lifting her head enough to show her rebellion, she couldn't help the confusion in her eyes. "I don't know what you are asking, Thana-"

Snarling vehemently, the alpha lunged at her so swiftly she was caught within his jaws before the word had finished. Gasping, she kicked out at him, but even her size couldn't combat his strength. Just before her eyes glazed, he released her, letting her fall gasping to the ground.

"You will call me Death or Master, for you are lower then the lowest in this pack." And his gaze flickered to Faelan at those words, a slight snarl lifting his lips. Then he looked back at the haggard wolf at his feet.

"Krishna, show her . . . "

The old krone nodded vigorously and moved in her odd gait towards the fallen femme. Settling her old body before Athena, she placed a paw over the orange wolf's muzzle, touching noses with her. Athena tried to jerk back in revulsion at the smell of the krone's breath, but Krishna proved stronger then she looked.

"Little traitor, soothe and listen to my thoughts, for I will show you our destiny . . . "

A small whine dribbled from her throat as her mind was invaded by alien thoughts, sibilant whispers, and growling chants. And suddenly . . . images bombarded her, bowing her spine with their intensity. She howled in agony, feeling as if her skull would split with all that flooded her thoughts. She distantly her the sounds of Thanatos howling in glee, of Grimmjow cackling madly, and Krishna's hideous dry laugh before her howl joined the cacophony.

Then the krone was gone, and Athena sagged, panting laboriously. One image hung heavily in her mind, of a wolf that looked so very much like her dead brother. She had seen this wolf . . . and the half-grown pups that also ran laps around her skull. Had heard where they were heading, to escape the evil the smallest pup said whispered through the forest.

Finally, her breath returned to her, but she could feel the small drops of blood seeping from the bite wounds of Thanatos . . . of her new master.

A spark of her rebellion still remained. She had one up on Death.

She knew more then he did of the situation.

She bowed to the alpha, her submission plain for all to see, but she kept her eyes on the ground as laughter danced in her yellow orbs.

"I know where you must go . . . "

A mix of emotions filled the beta. She rejoiced, she hated and she worried. That foul crone, if it weren't for her then none of this, not a bit of it would have happened. How was any of this possible? This insignificant little whore, who could hardly even fight of Krishna, would show them the way. It would be a favor to kill the rotten child now, to kill both of the loathsome creatures. They weren't worthy of the words that Thanatos gave them, not his time, or even the glance of his eye.

But, her alpha had made his choice, and the wolf would accept that. She would watch the unbecoming female, every step she took. She would report anything to her alpha, and silently beg that he allow her to kill the little wretch. The green eyes passed over the pack. Yes, she had much watchig to do now. The brother, and the wretch.. She would watch. She would wait. She would destroy any wolf that would harm her alpha, be it against his word or no.

Impassively she watched Athena's exchange, ears alert as always in case some other wretch that had sided with her decided to surprise them; not that any wolf could hope to defeat them, but even a sudden leap could cause trouble that they did not need or want. Hunger and the urge to run and kill clawed at her innards, and it was with great patience and minute twitches of her maw that Bital observed the wench's subservience induced, neither caring that Athena's display of rebellion had been snuffed out as quickly as a pup punished nor that she had to suffer the crone's presence. What did Krishna speak of? Did the addle-brained one spill their prophecy so quickly?

The beta's eyes narrowed as Athena spoke of her alleged knowledge. It did not matter to her that this information she apparantly possessed was vital. All Bital could see beneath that scraggy fur was the violent pup who had nearly clawed her own brother's eyes out with little regard for love in those eyes. And Bital was quite sure that that temperament had not so easily gone away since she last saw Athena . . . "And you will lead us?" she ventured, gruff and succinct. She and Shinsa would of course work as Thanatos's eyes and ears on the situation as they always had; whatever Athena was planning (Bital was sure her suspicions were not unfounded on this), she would not get away with it. "How do we know you will not bring us into a trap's clutches, traitor?"

Lifting her head in sneering defiance of the beta, and her old nursemaid, Athena flicked an ear at Krishna. "The krone will tell you if I lie or lead you astray," the orange femme growled out, not even bothering to hide her derision for the black, mangy furred old femme with the silver, unblinking eyes.

She remembered those eyes . . . vaguely. They hovered in her past, in the back of her mind, but she couldn't draw the memory out enough to remember where she had previously seen them.

Krishna bobbed her head in a swift nod, ears flicking this way and that, her head well below the arch of her shoulders as she looked towards the blue-gray beta, her tongue lolling from between her teeth.

"It is true. I may not know the exact path as she would, but I will discover if she lies."

Trust Krishna? Could you trust a fox not to eat the fresh-killed sparrow if you had to leave for a drink in the river? Even her prophecy left the beta with doubts, and frankly she and her little blue-haired charge were not in the best of regards to her. Bital's eyes remained narrowed with suspicion, biting a retort in the end; she could not make Thanatos angry again like she did earlier with her impulsive actions. Next time it might be worse than a growled command, and Bital had no intention of ever being lowered in rank again - not to that despicable position of omega she had served under Hephaestus for. "Very well." That was all she could say . . . for now. Tail flicking, she glanced to her alpha, looking for some sort of confirmation or order on what to do next, itching to release her pent-up energy somehow.

Thanatos eyed Athena with a small smirk, his head slightly cocked. He knew from past experience that her mind's gears were spinning fast, plots and plans abounding in her head. She had always had a way out of trouble as a pup, and he doubted that characteristic had changed about her when nothing else of her personality had.

"Show us the way then, Athena," he murmured, eyes glinting. She really had grown into a splendid female, regardless of her present form. His mind's eye pictured her without the dirt and grime and blood coating her fur, her long legs catching his imagination. A small rumbling laugh fell from his parted maw and he lazily looked at Bital with a pleased expression not meant for her, but easily mistaken as such.

"Scout ahead, Bital. Find us some prey, so that we may have the energy to pursue our destiny."

With that, he nudged Athena rather roughly with his shoulder and stalked away into the shadows of the trees.

Ah, there it was again. That absolutely certain look of power behind the gleam of the mask, Death's crooked grin that had sent the lowly omega tumbling at his heels merely to glimpse at the content beast within - the look that had captured both hers and Shinsa's hearts to easily would now entrance Athena. And surely, surely then she would not have to play pupsitter for the wretch. Indeed Bital mistook Thanatos's little grin and flashed a smile back, heart leaping at his words. At last, the hunt!

"My liege, thank you," she responded with a bow of her head before turning off to meld into the shadows opposite their company. In the middle of a hunt, she could forget gods-damned Athena. Let her leader take care of the girl as he always did; for did not Thanatos always keep his promises? And though Bital loathed having to adhere to Krishna's prophecy, the possibility of a far greater destiny . . . well, who could resist such an idea?

A growl managed to stay quiet, but engulfed the beta's mind. It was an out rage that she could not put into proper thought, only a burning anger that lit the wolf's green eyes. Her fangs ached with every pulse of her heart, pleading and pleading. No. She must keep hold. While istinct demanded that the fae die here, her alpha demanded other wise. Perhaps his sight was so much clearer than hers, as it had always been. Then the sight glance, something she dared not label between her alpha and Bital.

Shinsa's blood ran cold with a betrayal she couldn't put a paw on. Jealousy flared and the little hope in her heart dropped. The alpha might as well have ripped her open. Damned Bital Some part of her wished to follow the fellow beta into the woods. What she might do after that was a though darker than she liked to admit. But no, she must be coy, she must be dignified. She would earn her alpha's respect and trust. The beta set her eyes dead ahead, not looking at anything, rather, watching everything. She would protect her alpha, that was all that mattered.
