Alex nodded as he felt the man's skin, running his hand up and down the arm a little, getting a feel for the texture... "Uh-huh, I'm Alex. Who're you?" Although he was aware of the concept of a mom & dad, and he considered Tom to be his dad, he didn't call him that, and it didn't occur to the little slug that "Rangi's dad" or "Atl's dad" would be the usual title that a little kid would assume as the title of the father-figure.

The blond man nodded, seeming to be glad that he got it right before he lifted a hand to his chest, "My name is Aylen St Claire, though just Aylen would be fine." He introduced himself quite politely, having been raised in that manner and was seeming to try to raise his children the same way, "It is very nice to meet you, Alex."
The man seemed to have a very gentle spirit to him and a soft smile, the sort that didn't seem as though they could ever get mad no matter what happened. It seemed the excellent skill for a parent who suddenly had two young children on his hands to care for.

It was about then that Alex remembered what he'd been told about meeting new people. It just so happened that that timing coincided when he was satisfied with figuring out what this man felt like. "It's nice to meet you too, Aylen," he answered carefully in about as cordial as a feely little slug could manage.
Not so tactfully, he asked simply, "Can you see? You're looking around funny, kinda like this blind guy that works for Tom." It was the sort of thing that Alex had been taught to notice (he'd been taught to notice everything), but not comment on so directly...but he'd only ever seen the one blind person.

Aylen lifted a hand up to his mouth to cover a laugh before he shook to his head, "Not in the manner that those around me can see, no." He said, surprised that the boy so easily saw such a thing. He was a bit impressed by this, there were many that he moved around, knew, and worked with that had no idea due to his being able to move through life easily and without showing off what others might see as a disability.
His hand lowered to come to rest on the boy's shoulder, "I guess though that if you know another like me then it would be easier for you to spot." He found himself curious about the other blind man that Alex spoke of if for no other reason then he'd never met anyone like himself before.
The man gave a little gasping sound as suddenly the two waiting in the shallows started up a splashing fight between them over something that had been said, nothing bad just teasing perhaps. Aylen turned toward where they were, "Atl, Rangi, be careful not to splash people other then each other." He told them, he didn't mind so much but what if some passerby did? He would feel bad then.

"Well," Alex said, mimicking a tone rather like the biologists who he talked to often (the ones who were ostensibly keeping tabs on him while his father was busy) would take whenever they were explaining something to the slug boy, "I don't think you're the same...it's just that you weren't watching us, and, uh," he paused. The scientist-mimicking faded. "You don't...look at me the same way as other people. I dunno..."
What Alex had noticed was that a man with no sight cannot focus his eyes on something close up, and someone with sight will focus on it. But the difference, while he could tell was there, he could not properly identify yet. "It's kinda like when Mr. Pat looks at people."

Aylen did his best not to laugh at the tone of voice that the boy had taken with him. It was kind of cute the way he seemed to be talking like the people he'd before met with at the hospital, "Well it was a good assumption on your part." He told him, "I turn toward the people that are speaking to me so as to make them feel comfortable but yes, I don't exactly look at people in the same manner as others."
He had a special manner of seeing but it wasn't something he tapped into unless it was needed. No reason to use his talent when it wasn't needed.
Rangi pulled himself forward from the water to pat Alex in an enthusiastic manner, "Hey, hey! Come on and play!" He said, wanting the sluggy boy to come and play with him, he was playing with his Dad and that was no fun!
"Ahh... Rangi! He is talking with Daddy." She whispered, looking a little embarrassed over his behavior in trying to steal Alex's attention when he was talking with someone already.

"Play?" Alex asked, the pretext of being thoughtful and observant dropped instantly at the very idea. "Okay!" He backed up to go back to the water, and paused briefly before making it all the way. "Oh, niceta meet you, Mr. Aylen." He remembered his niceties...Tom would be proud.
That out of the way, though, he went back to Rangi and the water, where he grabbed the fish-boy by his wrists to circle around in the water a bit, a big happy grin on his face. "Whaddya wanna play?" he asked after finishing the motion.

Rangi gave a happy sound when Alex came back into the water to play with them instead of staying out to talk with Aylen. It would appear though as if the man weren't to bothered by it as he was smiling as Alex moved to go to play with Rangi and Atl.
"Enjoy yourselves you three." He said, giving a smile before he let his eyes close so he could once more concentrate on the sounds around him.
The gunard grinned widely, his fins twitching, "Yes! Lets... play... Tag!" He reached a hand out to smack it lightly against Atl's arm, "TAG!" He said before diving into the water to swim off quickly.
The colorful slug girl blinked a couple times before turning to look at Alex, "A-Ah... I will count to three." She told him.

While tag wasn't Alex's favorite game (he was rather slow in the water in comparison to other, more finny, mers), he was still happy to play a game, and made a show of retreating into the water away from Atl. "Not gonna get me," he teased playfully, and turned away to "shoot off" as best he could into the water.
It was really more of a careful undulation forward...it propelled him well enough, but a decent human swimmer could still out-perform him.

Atl watched as Alex moved forward, gave a look after her brother who'd already bolted, then started to count, "One... Two... Three..." She called out before following after Alex, at least she had a chance in catching another sluggy kid. She doubted she had a chance at catching Rangi unless she was lucky enough to sneak up on him. The best bet was definitely catching Alex... though when she tagged him she wondered if he would see it the same way, that it was best to chase her since it was tough to get a hold of Rangi.
She supposed she would see if she were able to catch up with her new friend.
Rangi on the other hand started to circle around the pair, not getting to close as he didn't want to get caught, but at the same time keeping them in his view so he could see if Atl tagged Alex, wanting to know at all times who was 'it'.

Escaping successfully wasn't often something Alex managed when he played tag with anyone--admittedly, he didn't often play tag, because he presented little sport to others with it. Still, he did his best to stay away. Flourishing around, laughing and pulling at the sand to speed himself up.
Once he was finally caught, he circled around Atl playfully, a big grin plastered on his face as he made a show of trying to get back at her--but really, what he wanted to do was get Rangi to drift in close enough to suddenly twist and tag him instead. Alex doubted very much that he'd be able to get away again, but that wasn't the point.
It would be quite the victory for the little slug to catch someone clearly much faster than he. "Gonna getcha," he told Atl, facing her with a grin, although his eyes were actually in the direction of the fish.

Atl met Alex's gaze before smiling and continued to 'flee' making sure to do so toward her brother but pretended not to be looking at him as she didn't want for the faster fish to know what they were up to. She was having fun with the game and it was made even more fun with another sluggy joining her in the attempts of winning against Rangi. She would be quite happy to see him get beat, especially at a race!
Rangi, for the moment, seemed to be oblivious what was being planned. Instead he just thought that Alex was being smart in trying to catch the slowest of the group, that being his sister. He had no idea that they might be working together, against him.

The circling gradually took the two slugs over toward their observer, Alex making sure he looked like he was trying to get Atl, although always just missing her. It went on for a while, dodging around, rolling in the water, giggling...
Suddenly, his pattern changed, and he jerked in the opposite direction where he swung his hand out to brush onto Rangi's 'wing.' "Gotcha!" he declared triumphantly. "I got the fishy!" he cheered happily, suddenly forgetting that he was supposed to get away again. Instead, he did a little dance in the water and repeated, "I got the fishy!" cheerfully.

Rangi looked more then a little surprised as he was tagged by the white sluggy, eyes going rather wide before he stuck his tongue out at the pair, "I can't believe you tricked me like that... awesome." He set to laughing, a bit amused by the sneaky tactic that the pair had employed against him. He'd never have thought that they would be able to think of something like that so he was caught of guard really.
Atl gave a happy sound, clapping her hands in delight, "Yay! Alex!" She cheered, pleased that her brother had been caught... then she seemed to realize that Rangi had been caught which meant that the two of them would have to flee from him, "Ack! Hurry and flee Alex!" She squeaked.

"Flee?" Alex asked, upside-down. "Oh, yeah!" There was no way he'd be able to get away--or pull that trick again--but he still tried. That was the game, after all. He twisted and headed off straight away from Rangi, rolling back into his usual spikes-up swimming position, and wiggled along the ground, using his hands to pull himself over the sand a little faster.
That had the side-effect of giving him a little cloud of bottom-sand poofing behind him as he fled, which was part of the fun, really.
