It was about damn time this contest had started. Baldric had been wandering the area for a good few days, the extensive wildlife giving him free reign over his transformation. Whenever he tried it in a town, he'd get chased out, or reviled, or something else saddening. The locals didn't like giant lions, it seemed. Maybe this crowd would be a little more receptive of his ability, instead of running in terror? They were hardened warriors, after all.
Ugh, that man would not be quiet, would he? Who cares about the rules when you've got sheer strength to throw around like a snobby noble has money? Yeah, yeah, labyrinth. That's all you had to say, creep... Baldric couldn't shake the weird feeling he got from the man, so he decided to- Oh, look, a corpse falling from the sky!
Baldric could hardly contain his excitement. Not only had he been waiting for this, it was shaping up to be quite the fun little game! A mysterious corpse, a horde of unimportant lemmings, and himself, the king of these savage beasts, these dirty sellswords. With a spring in his step, he leaped towards the entrance, batting the corpse aside as he faced those who had yet to enter.
"Hey, weaklings! Who wants to team up and take this contest down? First come, first serve!" Sure, he was using an especially outside voice (like an on top of a mountain kind of outside) but why not? The adrenaline was pumping, and he wanted someone to tag along, to make up for his lackluster on-his-feet problem solving. Granted, he didn't think about how many did or did not know that he could turn into a giant lion at will, so he kept putting on bravado, waiting for a taker.

Scar shivered. It was chilly out here. She'd listened to Rohan and nothing he'd said made her want to go away. So, upon his command, she got ready to follow the others into the maze. Some seemed way too enthusiastic to be here, running ahead of her. Scar was perfectly content to slowly stroll along into the maze, taking the challenges as they came. And she certainly expected challenges, judging from how things were already turning out.
"The labyrinth looks fairly nasty, you'd better watch your throat~" came a ghastly whisper from her side. She expected as such, but whatevs. "Relax," she responded, seemingly to thin air. She could barely keep the sly grin off her face.
She was about to enter when a great figure blocked her path. He seemed way too haughty for his own good. "He'll die quickly, I bet~" "Shush, you," she whispered back. He was big, and that would definitely help. Why not join him? Certainly couldn't hurt her odds, and she was more than confident in her abilities to eliminate him if he dared turn on her. She approached him. "I'd love to join you," she spoke loudly, grinning evilly. "We'd better hurry and get started, though."

Baldric grinned a wide grin as Scar made her way to him. For someone to come so quickly was a great thing! He wouldn't lose time looking for an underling, at this rate. The candidate was... a simple young beorc lady. She seemed marginally enthusiastic enough, or at least as psyched as one could if they were about to go into an ancient labyrinth. He reached a hand out, and placed it firmly on her shoulder, as if they were already friends. "Quick and to the point, I like that!"
Already, his thoughts were racing. What would he find in there? Would he win easily, or would he have to rend through countless others before victory was his? ...and just what was the prize, for that matter? ...no time for questions, especially not this early. He took a small breath as he let go of the girl, turning his back towards her as he shoved the moronic passerby from the few feet surrounding him.
With a slightly feral motion, Baldric crouched down to the ground, putting one hand firmly in the sand to stabilize his weight. As a smirk shot onto his face, he was enveloped in a harsh red light, one that not only covered his entire body, but his clothing as well. Once he was fully immersed in the glow, it disappeared with a snap, leaving a large, hulking red lion standing in its wake.
Paying no mind to some of the frightened entrants, he turned his head back towards the girl, letting out a gravelly voice that one would expect from a talking lion. "Alright, get on, girl. We can get to know each other once we get moving." He scraped his paws across the sand a few times, getting his bearings as he prepared to go sprinting off into the inky black cave the moment his ally was secured.

♪|Yula|♪ ♫Praise my Name always, like now!♫
♫My name is victory!♫ Ok, maybe dragging her ball hammer along the ground hadn’t been the best idea, not that she would admit that to anyone, of course. Dragging it didn’t cause it to get damaged, but the instant she had entered the cave, the loud grinding noise it emitted as metal grated across stone wasn’t pleasant to the ears, in the least. Dragging it had other downfalls as well. Because of the weapons spikes that covered the ball, it had dug a small groove from the beginning of the cave to where Yule was now; an obvious path. It could bring her unwelcome followers should she have continued the stupid task.
“Well, up you go then,” the white haired girl sighed, as she stopped and turned around to face her bothersome weapon. As her other hand curled around the handle, she directed her strength at the task of heaving it up and resting it on her shoulder. Except, despite Yula’s effort, the weapon remained stuck, caught on a small rock that protruded from the ground. “Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me,” she grumbled as she scratched the back of her neck and took a peak towards the entrance.
Eh, there was some really big dude blocking the entrance now. How come he got to be so big? Did people even get that big? Why was she so small? Her brown eyes blinked as she squinted to make out more than just how large he was, but because of where he had placed himself, the light from outside concealed any other details from her eyes. Oh, whatever, what did some big dude matter to her, what mattered now was that stupid weapon. She growled as she kicked the hammer, resulting in a loud clang, which echoed through the cave, due to the steel toes of her boots.
Yula rubbed at her ears trying to erase that nasty sound from her mind; she sure wouldn’t be doing that a second time. A harsh glare was directed at the inanimate object from its owner as she once again gripped the weapon with both hands and pulled. “… I’m not leaving you here!” And then suddenly she was falling backwards together with her weapon. Before she hit the ground though, a single noise echoed in her mind. Click. Her vision was directed upward as she noticed a secret compartment open up above her. As her back smashed against the ground, the incredibly light, small girl bounced back a few more feet.
Yula yelped as landed against the ground once more. From the chamber that had opened above various ropes… no, snakes, fell onto the ground in front of her. Without even picking herself off the ground, she swung her ball hammer around and smashed the creatures against the cave floor. The sheer force of the swing not only pulverized the reptiles, but resulted in a large boom that could easily have traveled through the cave and to the outside. “Tsk, tsk, know your place, yucky things.” As Yula lifted herself from the ground she heaved the ball hammer up, and examined it, as well as the large hole it had created.
“Ewwwww, there’s dead things on my hammer,” she whined as she smashed the weapon against the cave wall a few more times until all the snake remains where removed from it. “Oops,” she muttered as some rocks began to fall from the ceiling. “Best be making tracks,” she giggled as she hastily propelled her hammer onto her shoulder and hurried farther into the cave.

Jen contuned her way in the Labyrinth. There was a good amount of blood on her sword. She picked up her sword a bit a licked it like it was a lollipop. She gave a small smile.
"Yum." She said, "Human blood mixed with lizard blood."...She must have ran into a few traps.
Jen ran and turned right. She stopped and looked at the tiger that was in a cage. Then came a click, the cage just unlocked.
"Well looks like I get to kill a tiger now." Her smile turned into a grin. She charged her way at the tiger. The tiger charged its way to Jen. They both jumped into the air and took a swipe at each other.
As Jen landed she had clawmarks on her left arm. The tiger got a good hit on her. The tiger though wasn't so lucky. It got deep cut to the bone on it's front left leg. The tiger landed roughly and tried to get back up, but couldn't. Jen got it.
"Well that could have gone better." She told herself. She got up and wrapped her wound with a bandage she had with her. She then walked her way to the tiger. She had a grin that said 'I'm going to kill you now'. Once she got to the tiger she started to cut it into pieces. After a while she got bored and contuned on.

(Sorry I wasn't told this was starting already DX) Samuel was last to arrive at the labyrinth. It looked like a horrible place and he could hear beasts roaring in the distance. "I have to hurry to catch up to the others." He thought to himself as he held his light book close to his heart. As soon as he came around the far corner on the right a large black bird swooped at him knocking him down for a moment. "What was that...Part of the contest...or has something gone array?" He muttered to himself as he quickly opened his tome and began chanting the spell from it's pages "Holy light...I call upon thee to vanquish this evil before me." A large ball of light began forming above the tome and then it shot towards the black bird knocking it out of the sky. "Now's my chance!" Samuel said quickly running deeper into the maze as the black bird lay on the ground either unconscious or dead from the attack.

"Fufufu, a lion laguz~ You don't see many of those, do you?" Scar was stunned for a split second, but she recovered. "You don't waste time either, I see!" "I thought laguz didn't like people riding them~" She shrugged and hopped onto the lion's back without a second thought. "It's kind of dark in there, isn't it?" She pulled a tome out of her robe. "Allow me." "Showing off your magic already?" She murmured an incantation, and her hand was filled with light. "Let's go!"

٭I have no use for sentiment. That is a fool's emotion.٭ +Nadia+ As Nadia, the one who was striving to win this contest flawlessly rode into the labyrinth, she noticed something strange. She drew up her tome, and the runes had no magic color, no effectiveness. The Valkyrie knew instantly what it meant. Her magic had been sealed.
Her mount however was going forward, pulled ever more towards battle. Was there to be some kind of guardian up ahead? No matter.
As long as I rely on my dearest horse... the one whom trained as much as me to be flawless... I will not fail.٭All that matters is if one is perfect in everything they do.٭

Oh, this girl was shaping up to be quite great already! Without a moment to prepare, the girl was already safely on his back, and with a light spell, to boot! They could move fast AND see things! Baldric let out a proud roar as he sprinted off into the shadows, his thoughts cackling as much as he'd be if he wasn't a lion.
Before long, they were already in a dark tunnel, dim lights accompanying the girl's spell. All the while, Baldric darted around the other contestants, nearly running into a small girl with all sorts of quirky hammers before reaching the labyrinth itself.
By this point, and we're talking a short few minutes from the start of the sprint, Baldric's night vision had kicked in, though it was slightly blocked by the light spell. The lion began shooting through a dizzying number of twists and turns, rights and lefts, all the while remaining focused on the goal: reaching the center.
It was because of said determination that he failed to notice the woman on a horse as he swerved through a zigzagging path. So, he ended up slamming right into her and her horse, side into side, before regaining his footing and sprinting off again. That was one weird wall right there, it was.
And all the while, poor Scar could do little but cling for dear life.

I wonder, I wonder...♪ Elise ♪ I wonder why each little bird has a someone... To sing to... With ignorance came a complete and utter lack of fear. Caution, perhaps, but no fear- and with that came a lack of hesitance. Elise had plunged into the maze, deep within its halls, and had only by chance failed to step on the charmed tiles that Silenced one woman who passed through that same hall after her. Her dress brushed over the runes, but the beorc-based magic did not stick to her form; already magically resistant on her own, and with no skin contact, the curse had nothing to hold onto.
The heron stood utterly still for a moment, not daring to hum a single note as she heard the rough padding of paws approaching her. Again, it was not fear- just the primal question of What's THAT? invading her mind as she turned towards the sound, humming to illuminate her body ever so slightly to create a dimly glowing beacon in the hall. Unfortunately, this did absolutely nothing but make her night vision worse, and she barely saw Baldric as he barreled into a screaming horse not ten yards in front of her.
Oh, look, a fluffy tail!
...Wait, fluffy tail, big neck fur...
It's a kitty!
Letting out a cheery laugh, she hopped straight past those cursed stones again and hopped nicely over a tripwire she had assumed was a game, earlier- the heron twirled awkwardly, moved her feathers just enough to express her happiness, and grinned up at the lion and his rider.
The thought that he could mow her down with one snap of his jaws or one flick of his claws didn't even occur to her.
"Kitty!"
It was almost like she'd won a game of hide-and-seek; her smile was pure and enthusiastic, her eyes ablaze with joy.
Quite out of place, in a labyrinth that spelled almost certain death for everyone inside. To sing to...Sweet things to... A gay little melody?

--ACTEON-- Yeah, I DO have a problem with you. He could hear the noises as Jen hacked through her quarry- slices, screams, and snarls, followed by the cold, inevitable silence of the maze and the sound of a falling corpse. The reek of blood was somewhat refreshing, though Bellerophon was less than thrilled to have his white fetlocks stained with Jen's handiwork. Everywhere she went, there were unsightly chunks left behind, each sliced from the bone; leaving Acteon, of course, to tromp through her mess.
But it was all right.
Still following her at a distance, Acteon gently guided his mount through the dark, their vision acclimating at around the same time- both were used to night flights, and though there were no stars to guide them, it was still just barely light enough for them to make out their base surroundings. While they wouldn't be able to discern a fly on the wall, for instance, their vision was no doubt better than the swordwoman's, leaving him at an advantage.
He still kept a tight hold on his Javelin, feeling the uneasy feeling of his pegasus's hooves walking on something less sturdy than stone.
Stopping for a moment, he slid off of the saddle and, pulling a cloth from the saddlebag, wiped his mount's hooves clean before pulling himself back onto his prime vantage point. No sense in having his beloved Bellerophon slip from so much blood on the floor.
Hearing a hiss, all it took was one swift Javelin stab backwards to slice a Mogall's massive eye in two, twisting it in the core and shaking the convulsing thing off of his lance.
The things were too noisy for their own good.

Ruben after traveling quite a ways to this spot had decided to take a nap underneath a tree. He arose in a when the man was making his speech. He didnt really pay much attention to it. He was still tired. He heard the word maze and looked over to the cave nearby. "Hmm...Challenging..." he said quietly to himself. He hung his shield off his back and placed a hand on his blade and walked quietly underneath the sun into the maze. He didnt know which exact way to go but he followed his first gut instinct and went to the right and then left. "Hmmm...some Fun today...." he said aloud to himself as he walked the corridor.

♫My name is victory!♫ “And then the wonderful, super, awesome, best, amazing Yula walked down the dark and slimy tunnel, when suddenly—wait, hold it,” Yula said to no one other than herself as she stopped dead in her tracks. It had been no more than maybe three minutes since she started walking again and she was already bored. When you’re bored to the point you decide to narrate what you’re doing, it’s probably safe to assume you’re really bored. “Ooo, maybe someone will write about my adventure when this is all done!” Indeed, such logic had brought Yula to the conclusion that speaking about herself in third person was not wasted time.
A squeak of agreement sounded from next to her, distracting the girl momentarily, as she directed her attention to the source of this sound. About an arm’s length away from her foot was a single red-eyed rat with long, unkempt nails, and slick, black fur. Her eyes lingered on the creature for no more than a few seconds before she jerked her head to the side with a huff and turned up her nose. “Who do you think you’re looking at vermin?!” With no time to react, the rodent was squashed under her ball hammer, creating another loud boom due to the force of the impact. “Learn your place and remember not to speak unless spoken to next time, yucky thing.”
“Eww, I got yucky on my hammer again!” Yula grimaced as she held the hammer as far away from her body as possible. “This just simply won’t do.” And at the risk of being repetitive, Yula smashed the hammer against the side of the cave to gut the guts of the rat off her precious weapon. Naturally, the cave wouldn’t have been all too pleased had it been a living object, but like all living creatures it retaliated. Cracks had traveled up the wall and onto the ceiling, causing the rock to break apart; raining down pebbles and stones of various sizes. “Oh, woops?” She smiled innocently as she looked up as the crumbling ceiling, and the tunnel started caving in, strangely pleased by the mischief she had wrought.
“Right, so—“ And once again Yula had fallen to the ground, but this time it had not been her own fault. Having been distracted, Yula had failed to notice as the lion rush past, grazing her side and setting her off balance. With her armor and weapons to contend with, righting such a weight had been too difficult to perform quickly, sending the girl tumbling down one of tunnels. Unable to stop herself from rolling, Yula clenched onto her hammer fiercely as not to lose it. Her armor clanked with each rotation, as the hard metal hit against the rock floor. Odds had it that the teen would eventually run into something, thus stopping her momentum. She just hadn’t expected it to be someone, rather than something; or that someone to be Bliss.

Something on the floor would catch Jen's eye as she made her way down the passage. Another trap, perhaps? Best to approach it carefully. As she got closer, it appeared that a message was scrawled on the floor.
It said, "Somebody wrote gullible on the ceiling."
Four steps past it, a rune lit up underfoot and invisible hinges in the floor swung downward, giving Jen just enough time to reach back and latch onto the ledge behind her, staining her fingers with the charcoal of the message as she dangled above a dark, deep pit. Far below was the glint of spikes, and the torch bracket on the wall illuminated dark water around the steel spikes, along with odd movements under it. Probably electric eels, if other deadly deadly labyrinths were any indication.
The walls were smooth and vertical, and totally slick with algae. If she fell, it would be her last fall, ever.
Incidentally, when she looked up, she'd be able to see the word 'GULLIBLE' scrawled in charcoal on the ceiling.

"Damn it." She told herself. "That wasn't smart of me. I'm really sure I'm going to die here. Maybe someone was following me. Worth a shot. HELP!" She screamed it over and over hoping someone would find and help her.
