Do Ren Faires count as LARP? They look like so much fun and I've wanted to go to one for awhile.
Let us look at the differences between a Larper and a Ren Faire Actor

Actors and Reenactors are people who portray someone as historically accurate as possible. They tend to wear muted colors that blend together with the rest of the troops. The weapons and armor are real, and they understand the historic significance of the person they portray.

LARPers or Live action role players, portray a character that is supposed to exist in an alternative reality or universe. They wear bright, easily recognizable colors, so you can tell who's coming from miles away. They do not use real weapons nor armor and would not know historical accuracy if it came up and bit them in the face.
Actually, there's a tendency among the Larpers I play with to wear real armour and more muted colours. Not all of us are totally historically stupid, either. =P
