I'd honestly say that, in my opinion, their isn't really any strong first evolution Pokemon that are strong.. maybe I haven't seen what they can really do, but.. *shrugs* Maybe Vulpix or Growlithe.. maybe....

Well, the topic isn't about inherently strong basic Pokémon you'd use; Just basic Pokémon, strong or not, that'd you'd love to use if you wouldn't get the crap kicked out of you in-game for using them. xD

I'd have to say Buneary and Vulpix also Kadabra because I've lost patience to evolve it LoL Though Bellsprout because I think it's adorable and Ekans not sure why on that one but lastly Sandshrew to cute to evolve.

I would totally use these first evo pokemon:

Natu- I like the little green birdie :3
Phanphy- Cute blue elephant. Who doesn't like Phanphy?
Sunkern- It is also cute.
Horsea- Same as above.
Oddish- Because I'm a vegitarian razz

and last but not least: TEDDIURSA!!!
Teddiursa is the best first evo in my opinion. He so cute, it will kill you.

It would be great to have a pe-evolved pokemon that is as strong as it's evolved form. If that were possible I would like an Eevee, Pichu, and a Chinling.

You know, given my experience with Hector--my level 100 meowth--there exists a serious digression between how dismissive people are of unevolved pokemon and just what it is they're often capable of.

Other pokemon I'd use: I've been tempted to play around with Numel. They have a secret weapon! And I've warmed up to the little guys just a bit.

Lately I've found myself growing fond of Spheal and Swinub. Their evolutions are ugly as sin imo, though.

My favourite un-evolved pokemon are:
Vulpix:So adorable.
Teddiursa:The way it has its fingers in its mouth are so cute!
Pichu:Tiny but oh so cute.
Buneary:Bouncy,bouncy sooo cute!
Shinx:Really cute!
Eevee:Cute with 7 choices of evolution.
Horsea:The cutest water pokemon.
Wurmple:It may be a worm but I think it's cute.

I agree with a lot of you. My list:

Vulpix
Evee
Glameow
Shinx

There's more, but I'm drawing a blank. But my number one is Charmander - my favorite pokemon ever! She's the cutest pokemon in the world to me and if I had one I wouldn't let her EVER evolve! Also, I'm torn as to the Evee one. Because Flareon is almost identical to Evee and is just as cute not to mention powerful. As well as Espion. Another powerful and beautiful pokemon. Again, with Vulpix, it's evolution is beautiful, but not as cute. Vice versa.

With this topic, I feel I should remind all of you that there is a competitive tier called, NFE; Not Fully Evolved.
These pokemon are pokemon that are raised to 100 while not being evolved.

With that being said, I'd probably train:
Trapinch
Glameow
Cubone
Pikachu
