"Ew, no," she says, displaying an uncharacteristic amount of emotion. "I'm Elizabeth. Not Liz, not Lizzie, not Bess. Elizabeth." She'd had to clarify for everyone recently, since Amapola kept introducing her as Lizzie, and had even gotten the little ones to call her Auntie Liz. Cripes.

He started at the ew before staring at her as they walked. It took a moment for it to sink in before he fell into a sullen silence. "Elizabeth then." The male spoke softly. He had a few pae who wouldn't fall for his charms, but it wasn't often someone actually attacked him. That wasn't family. "Its a nice name."

"Thanks," says Elizabeth. She relaxes a little now that he isn't trying to charm his way into who knows what. And it shows--she smiles easier, and she seems more friendly now. "Tristen's a nice name too. Do you know what it means?"

gonk she was nicer when he wasn't nice?! "No...my mom named me." So she liked it when he wasn't himself. Wasn't this going against every thing he had ever learned about females? Suffice to say, it was disheartening. To woo a girl he had to be...fake. It seemed so wrong.

"Oh...that's nice..." Elizabeth trails off. She doesn't remember having a mother. But surely someone took care of her. Children can't just be left alone. Elizabeth herself remembers raising Amapola. She shakes her head, bringing herself back to the present. "Sorry. There's a lot going on in my life at the moment."

"There is a lot of things going on at the moment." His voice was still soft, his ego still bruised. He had such a predicament. On one hand, he was making progress with him not oozing charm. On the other, he wasn't himself. "the island landing and those pirates...I wonder whats going on, you know?"

"What? Oh, yes, that," she says. She hadn't been thinking of that at all, but it's a decent cover so she doesn't have to talk about her personal life. Come to think of it, she doesn't really even know what to talk about. By the Old Ones, she's spent too much time hiding in her house. She'd forgotten how to be social.

Maybe this Tristen wasn't trying to charm his way into anything. Maybe he was just being nice, and she can't see it.

Cripes.

He just had to be himself. It just wasn't right to hide. The male summoned up a bright smile as he looked over at her. "Something troubling you, dear Elizabeth?"

"Oh, not really," she says off-handedly. "I'm just not very good at talking to people." She shrugs lightly and tries to smile.

"Perhaps you like to speak more with your body?" Perhaps it could be taken in the wrong way but it was actually profound. His brother had a mute daughter after all, yet had a loving boyfriend. Often people underestimate just how much communication was done with subconscious movements of their body.

"Pardon me?" splutters Elizabeth. She honestly can't believe he just suggested that! There's no way on earth that was a slip of the tongue--that lewd statement had to be completely intentional.

The male laughed heartily. She DID take it the wrong way! What a dirty mind. He stopped infront of her. "You misunderstand. My older brother has a daughter who is mute. Sometimes people communicate better with their bodies then they do with words."

"I don't communicate anything with my body, thank you, innocent or otherwise," says Elizabeth. "My consolation for your niece, but her case is one of necessity and not of preference."

"She has a power that allows her to project what she thinks into words using shadows." He spoke quietly, smiling secretively. "She chooses to use her body because only the ones who matter will listen. I want to show you something...will you come with me?"

"I'm not sure I'm inclined to go anywhere with you, to be honest," says Elizabeth, crossing her arms over her chest. "You haven't exactly impressed me thus far."
