toco clarinet On Wings Of Song Anything that makes a noise can be classified as an instrument, really. Just like thunderstorms. If you actually listen, a thunderstorm can sound like an orchestration. Natures music<3
So, I think "percussion" could be classified as such.
There's a whole documentary on it, but I don't remember what its title was =/ Sorry.[/quote technically, for it to classify as an instrument, it needs to be controllable by human(or at least a living thing) to help that human or living thing accomplish something it otherwise wouldn't have been able to accomplish without the "instrument". Yeah, I do believe you're right about that lol I think I was morely stating how anything can be used or heard as music.

Ohkay. Percussion is a section. I myself play the synthesizer, and I get mad when they say drums. D;<
Question! If you're pit in marching band, do you call the whole pit and drumline percussion or drumline? We have and argument in band and we need an answer!

percussion is a instrument. There are a few songs that might need percussion the most. I may not play it, but percussion might be important or the band might be a little bad.

I'm in pit, which is percussion and we read music just like the rest of the stupid people in our band who like to say that pit sucks, just becuase we don't march. We are carrying the whole show this year. We are playing crazy sixtenth notes in 180 on the mallets while the rest of the band is playing half notes. Yeah, and we don't do anything.

Percussion is not really AN instrument, it's a section. However when telling someone what instrument you play in the band, you cant really just say "Trianlge" or "Bass drum," because in most school bands (at least in most school bands here) you don't just play one instrument, you play many. Therefore you would say percussion, not AN instrument, but MANY instruments. That's just what I think, I play percussion myself. xd

Unless everyone else is, SUPERFANTASTIC at counting, Percussion is needed BIG TIME to keep them in the right place at the right time because we are the tempo. Of caourse the conductors set the tempo according to the asrranged music, but if we stuff up counting, chances are most other people will also

Percussion is a section, but there are instruments within it that could undoubtedly be considered a real instrument. Like bells.

Yes, I consider it an instrument. Though I consider the pitched ones (xylophone, chimes, etc.) more than just a plain snare or base drum. Over all I consider them an instrument.

overkill! But its true. percussion is to hit something. Something like 'bells' and the piano are percussion instruments. The percussion section is vital to music thus it is music. It keeps tempo, adds feeling.
Anybody ever listen to the Gods of modern band music (very easy to play probably a junior to high school lvl) but Think of the Witch and the Saint by Steven Reineke. Hear the bells chime at the entro. that entire intro is based on the percussion section. Just like the winds section, the horns and the stringed instruments. Percussion is a catergory (as stated 100 times) not an instrument. Winds (category) - Flute (instrument) Percussion (category) - Piano (instrument) heart s percussion

Well, percussion isn't an instrument, but a group of people playing together(:
Maybe he just thought that you meant that percussion wasn't part of the band?
