"Yes...really..." Anupu sighed before his features became stern once more. "but you must promise me you will try, you must make use of my advice...and never pity yourself. You are a king, you should be confident no matter what your doing." He nodded firmly before his voice softened.
A soft smile slowly settled back on his muzzle as he sat back much more relaxed. "Now why not tell me a bit about your pride, what duties you seem to have difficulties with?"

Makail nodded. "I'll try my best."
Oooooh, lord, here comes a good long story,..
"My pride,..well, as the story is told, it was blessed by the gods with the duty to ensure justice to world. There is,...a long story behind that. Anyway - one part of the pride - the Malakim - travel out of the lands in search for wrong doers, and bring them back in order to stand trial, where their story, and the story of their victim, if available, will be heard, and a punishment determined. It is up to the Elohim - four of the elders - to determine the guilt or innocence, or any factors that should be noted,..and my job to come up with that punishment..."
Makail was soft hearted though, and seemingly didn't have it in him to be as harsh as was sometimes needed.

Anupu listened in silence contemplating what he was being told he neither agreed nor disagreed each pride had their own ways. He didn't particularly ever care one way or another about the beliefs of a pride so long as they didn't interfere with the ways of the royals. It was those prides who elected leaders or were taken over by common tyrants that he despised.
"And what sorts of punishments do you think are fitting? Say a lion who is tried before you is proven a theif, or a murderer...what would you decree?" Anupu shook his head slightly and stood to pace.
"Such a heavy burden is hard to bear, knowing that your choice could forever affect another, but you must learn to understand that is your place." He knew how harsh his words were, most couldn't handle such choices day to day, but Anupu had never lacked faith in any royal blooded male or female. Somehow he was certain that the abilities lay within them, he simply had to figure out how to draw them out.

"I,...I think rehabilitation does wonders. The Elohim laugh at that though, for things such as murder. But I would rather extend a loving paw, than take an eye for an eye,... They say I'm too soft,.." Makail gave a small smile.
It looked like his days of la vie boheme were going to have to be put behind him.

"It does not matter what they say, but if the Prides ways are too punish then you must be inventive in ways that you can punish without destroying a creatures life or chances at seeing their mistakes." Anupu shook his head wondering at the foolishness of having only one heir left behind, perhaps a brother or sister would have the hard personality needed for the ruling position. Still one had to work with what raw material one had.
"Perhaps if you found yourself a queen with harsher ideals she could help you..." He added after a moment of thought.

A queen was one thing Makail was so not interested in. Possibly because he hadn't been around many growing up. His mother had died when he was really young, and he had never had that childhood crush. So yeah, girls still had 'cooties'.
"Iiiiif you say so. That's one thing they've really been pressuring me to do. They say, 'The queen is expected to tend to the young females, juve-adolecent, teaching them, and advising them. the queen is meant to be a loving, caring, dedicated, and warm soul.' etc, etc. But,...my dad didn't have a queen for a long time - since I was a cub, really. We don't have many young girls in the pride, so,..dad really didn't find getting a new queen neccessary,...and if he didn't need one, I can do just fine without one for a while,...right?"

"Well you should be able to do just fine, but your queen can be a valuable and powerful partner, and since she is so often underestimated that makes her an even more valuable secret weapon. You would be surprised at the things males say in the presence of a female, their much less guarded, and if you could get into the minds of your advisors it might help you." Anupu nodded softly, not to mention the fact that if the idiots tried to rebel having a litter of heirs would ensure the royal line wasn't exterminated with such ease.
"Let's leave such complications for the future though, it's best you come into your own...on your own." With a little help...he smiled softly.

Makail smiled. "Thank you, Anupu. I'll try harder,..."
With the protection and advice of a god, Makail felt a little more confident. Some changed would deffinately start taking place in the pride.
