I'm a freshman, and while I may not be the best marcher, I try. Unlike this trombone kid. Ohmigod, I want to STRANGLE him. Or stab hip with my 'older sibling's' [long story] sax. Repeatedly. In the neck.
We've had to jog for him three times because he was moving or he wasn't at his spot. I think that the low brass section and rank leaders are going to murder him. And I'd probably help, 'cept it would be another hole to deal with,

This is my first year out of high school marching band, and for the fall and winter semesters, I'm at a local community college, so my BD hired me on as the percussion instructor for the season, and let me tell you...our particular batch of freshmen...they're not mean or anything, they're just so unmotivated. I'm still somewhat pleased with the new kids in the drumline. They're putting good effort into things, and they're getting stuff done. Not to say the rest of them aren't, I just don't spend as much time with them. 4laugh

They aren't freshmen as much as they're new people. Last year there was a senior in color guard, and he was new to this, but he had done dance for almost all his life, so he adapted well. But he had the hugest ego. He claimed that he had more authority over me because he was a senior and I was a sophomore, even though I had done band and color guard for two years and he didn't.
Then there's this new girl in guard this year and she's a junior, and while I'm not in guard this year, I still find her really annoying, a know-it-all, and she doesn't listen to any of the vets except the captain, and even then not so much.
And in the pit this year, there's a freshman, and she's really nice, she's alright, but she was dubbed by a sophomore to be a "frosh-more." No. That just doesn't happen. When you go through high school, you have to be a stupid freshman before you can be a sophomore. No excuses.

I'm a freshman this year. I can't say I'm the best marcher, but I always do the best I can, and I never go to the sidelines and take 15 minute breaks (hell, I don't even take breaks, I'm so paranoid I'll miss something). I listen to my section leaders, and anyone that tries to help me/correct me. And when I was getting started and found being in step hard, I at least knew to look off other people. I can't say as much for other people in my section o.o There's this senior that is NEVER in step, and she always tries to correct me. So I listen, because...she's a senior, except when she's horribly obviously wrong, and I'm respectful about it. It's just really annoying... Ah, well, I'll get better, and she'll be gone next year. =)

Wow, You guys really don't like freshmen do you? Darn, I'm a freshman and I feel bad, not like I'm sticking up for us, but I don't know about were you guys live but the freshmen for as all relatively good~ I would hate to live were you guys do because over here we caught on pretty fast. .__. But we are also told we are the dedicated freshmen because we actually came to band camp and stuck through it.

I'm aware that I was somewhat annoying as a freshman... xd It just bugs most people when someone less experienced than you is trying to correct you or something. It even pisses off our director. xd Some freshmen in my band are amazing, but others are just...D=
You band sounds pretty good, though. :] Hopefully the freshmen class after you is good, too.

We taught the freshman to respect upperclassmen by making an example of one of them. It was so much fun... for us that is, not much for him. XD hahahaha
