Yuusa's whole body trembled, from her whiskers all the way into her bones. Never before in her life had she ever felt so much like ripping into another lion. Her whole essence screamed at her to lunge at him, and sink her fangs in as far as they would go. To tear and shred until there was no more left of him than what was left of her cub. But it was precisely because she had never felt it so intensely before, that she had to fight it. A growl rumbled steadily in her throat and her eyes didn't leave him for a second, but she didn't move an inch.
When her sister had come to her, spattered in blood and carrying a small, torn, broken bundle of black fur, Yuusa had understood. Even before Skugga had looked up into her eyes with that distant, detatched smile on her face and explained what she had done, and why, Yuusa had understood. And, as she always had done, she had taken responsibility for her sister's actions. She had acted in the heat of the moment and driven her twin away for good, but in her heart, she had taken the responsibility.
If only she had understood sooner, if only she hadn't let Skugga meet her son, if only she hadn't pointed to him as her reason not to come to the Dhati... Yuusa had accepted that responsibility. She should have known how her sister would react.
But this lion was not her sister. He was not someone that she had to understand or take responsibility for. He was someone that she could hate, someone to blame, and she hadn't realised until now just how badly she had wanted that.
She heard him, listened to his feeble excuse and attempts at explanation, all the while battling with the urge to fly at him. She needed time, she told herself. She needed a chance to breathe, to think, to get her head around what exactly had happened here today, and getting into a fight with a male who was bigger than her would not help in any way at all. She tried to remind herself of what had happened the last time she had got herself into a physical conflict, but when he pleaded with her... When he asked her to try to understand Skugga... Yuusa knew that she would not win this battle against herself.
"Understand this," she growled, her muscles twitching in anticipation of the leap - but for a little while longer, she could hold herself back. "There is no turning back for either one of us. Not anymore. And you will leave. Now. And you will not come back, ever again, or I swear I will do everything in my power to kill you."

Finally, Mazimwi was beginning to understand the extent of his actions. He was a part, no, the cause of all of Yuusa and Skugga's pain. It was a mistake coming here and a mistake listening to Skugga. Even though Skugga had asked him to do something horrible, he would still be by her side and now he had to return to where he belonged. He knew that if he stayed any longer, Yuusa would probably rip into his throat.
The lion began backing away from the infuriated lioness; he could knock her out easily but... Skugga probably would not appreciate that and Yuusa could always fight back. It would be easier to explain his actions to Skugga without any bleeding wounds on him.
"Again, I don't think I can express how sorry I am and I know that you are angry. I will take responsibility for my actions but it was not intentional. "
For some reason, Mazimwi was beginning to feel a little anger flicker in him. If the Mizimu hadn't been so corrupt, the Dhati never would have formed and then the sisters never would have split. If the Mizimu so highly believed in their spirits, how come things haven't been fixed yet?
Mazimwi turned around and left; he didn't have to worry about her jumping him now. She seemed to in her thoughts to physically attack him. Now... he had quite a few questions for Skugga when he got back. He had been kept in the dark for too long and Skugga was going to tell him everything.

Yuusa watched the lion walk away, and it took all her strength and energy to bite back the roar that threatened to rise in her throat. That would surely call the warriors to this place, and she didn't want to have anything to do with anyone right now. As he slipped out of her reach and faded into the tall grass, Yuusa finally let herself go, but rather than flying after him in one long leap of rage and anger, her legs merely buckled underneath her. Her belly hit the ground heavily, soon followed by her head, and she found herself panting as if she had been running for miles.
The grief was crushing her - But it was not just the grief of her lost cub. Something had changed today. Maybe everything had. She squeezed her eyes shut and placed a heavy paw across them, hiding herself from the world while she tried to sort her mind out, tried to think, tried to calm down. She needed perspective.
But it took a long time for the trembling to stop.
