(Do you mind if we glaze over the third degree of questioning?)
It caught Cassi of guard, and she blinked at Wally, thinking. She hadn't thought about it in a long time. How did they meet...?
"Out in the woods, a long time ago, when I was still just a little child, I met Joxer. We were near a lake. Or maybe it was a river. I don't remember. But he saved me. He's been my hero ever since." She looked at Joxer and smiled. "He's so brave."
"Brave might not be the word I'd use to describe Joxer." Jun gave a faint smirk. Bullheaded was probably a better word, but best to not get into it with the love sick puppies.

Joxer beamed, ignoring his mother. He remembered that day perfectly. Of course in his "perfect" memory he was amazing and far more smooth than reality... but no matter. Who cared what his parents thought. Cassi liked him and that was what mattered.
Wallace nodded politely. "Ah. Well. Isn't that very nice..." He coughed and shared a glance with Jun. "Soooo, it's pretty hot out... Who wants to go swimming!?" He looked hopefully at his daughter. He needed a break from this awkwardness.
Joxer wasn't a HUGE fan of swimming. Especially since Peri and his dad were so good at it and he wasn't. Though they did have those shells to help them out. He tended just to sink under his own weight... It was pretty hot though. Maybe getting his paws wet wouldn't be so bad. He looked over at Cassi and raised his eyebrows.

"You go ahead." She smiled. "I'm not too thrilled with the water." She wagged her tail slightly.
But Peri's head snapped up and she grinned at her father. "Last one in is a rotten egg!" She grinned at her brother as she leaped over her parents and skidded into the water.
Cassi could only smile and gently nudged Joxer towards the water. She'd stand there with her paws getting wet if she had to. But there were fish in the water. She wouldn't get in. Ever.
(Should we say they just spend the day playing on the beach?)

Wallace gave his mate a quick lick on the cheek and a wink, then dived after his daughter into the wonderful blue water. Ahhhh, now this was nice. He smirked mischeivously and splashed Peri with a quick flick of his foot.
Joxer lay down at the waters edge, his paws just touching the pond. He grinned as he watched his dad and sister play, then turned back to his mom and gave her a happy smile. He wrapped his tail around Cassi and sighed contentedly. This was perfect. He was such a sap.

(This actually seems like a good place to wrap it up.)
Tension eased up as the day wore on. Cassi felt that the more time she spent with Joxer's family, the more accepting they were of her. She felt bad she had to decline Peri's insisting on playing, but she just couldn't bring herself to get into the water. As the sun was setting, Peri found herself exhausted. She nuzzled her father as she got out of the water.
"I'm going to head home now, while I still have the strength to get there." She smiled at her parents. "I'll see you back home, Mom. Dad, Joxer, don't be strangers! And bring your girlfriend around more!" She said as she vanished over a rise in the sand, heading away from the water.

Wally hopped out of the water and shook himself reasonably dry. "Bye, kiddo!" He called out as Peri disappeared. Once he was sure his fur wasn't dripping too bad, he came over and stretched out next to Jun, giving her a happy nuzzle. Despite the annoyance, his kids were pretty cool. He grinned to himself and watched Joxer and Cassi together. Much like himself and Jun. Oh god. He was feeling all sappy. He inwardly groaned. What being a parent does to a winiko. Geeze.
Joxer lay his head on Cassi's shoulder and closed his eyes. Yeah, life was pretty perfect right now. It would be even MORE perfect if he could find some sort of heroic quest to go on... but there was always tomorrow.
