All part of the dance... Roise tapped her chin. "Ah," Roise said thoughtfully, "but your sister here has reprimanded him for pooping in the corner." Her face was one of innocent curiosity, but that would change. She was trying to figure out which woman was likely to crack first, but so far both had shown signs of being at about the same level with handling stressful questions.

Pointing up toward the sound of falling boxes, Roise said, "You might not have time for sweets. Sounds like those two are getting themselves into more trouble." Even without a uniform, her 'officer voice' had an ominous shade to it. She toyed with the idea of pulling her badge, but not just yet. Would one of them go up to investigate? Without the support of the other, it was possible one would crack more easily.

Looking back to the shelves, Roise let the matter of sweets drop. "Oh, but as to what I'm looking for..." Her dark expression was whisked away and replaced with the excited shopper once more. "Well, a friend just got her first pokémon. I was thinking of something they could play with together." Misdirection was one of her favorite interrogation tactics. She also tucked away the bit about the berry brownies. Cab loved sweets and Roise liked baking them for her. Putting magost in a brownie though was something she hadn't considered before. The slight bitter taste probably did well with the chocolate, and with enough sweet so as not to overwhelm the mouth.

Opal's face lightened up at the mention of sweets. And those Magost berry brownies sounded too good to pass up. "Sure, I could try some! They sound really good! In fact, do you happen to have some Pecha berries, Persim berries, and cream? 'Cause I can make this really tasty spread from those..." While talking to Meeka, Opal looked around for her Gastly, but Nerezza was nowhere to be found. Suddenly, she heard a large crash from the second floor. Gritting her teeth, she prayed to Arceus that Nerezza wasn't the cause of that noise.

Nerezza, of course, was nowhere near the site where the incident occurred. But the noise did pique her interest. Feeling pretty sure that it came from upstairs, she quickly made herself intangible and floating through the ceiling to the second floor, positioning herself in the wall. From here, the Gastly could plainly hear two voices, one of what she believed was a Raichu's and the voice of... That person from earlier! But who is it...?

As Catherine tidied up, she sensed another embodiment within the vicinity of the room. Immediately, she floated up an Antidote and shot it violently to the wall, causing it to break and spill its contents as it hit the wall. A low growl hummed by her throat as she approached the wall. "Who are you?" she said harshly, her voice deep with anger. "Show yourself!" El trembled by Catherine. He had only seen her a couple of times angry and my, it wasn't a pretty sight.

Meeka was still hardened up with fright she could not comment, but Medley's worried face turned to an almost victorious smile. Even though she was an ex-Rocket, she could sense the voice of an authority figure when heard. "I guess it is just my honest mistake." she said with a small shrug, darting her gaze up from Roise's second statement. "I'll check it out. Meeka, go get the brownies." Meeka nodded her head as Medley walked up the stairs, taps following the steps of her boots.

Meeka rushed to the back kitchen and returned with a small tray of uneaten brownies, though it was quite evident some were missing. "Here you go," she said, smiling again. She returned back to Roise and picked up a small jingle toy, offering it to her to look. "Maybe your friend would enjoy this?" she asked, eyes orbiting over the small ball.
PostPosted: Fri Aug 14, 2009 7:35 pm

Roise watched Medley's back until she disappeared and considered her. She was the one still inside while the others went to watch the stuck Stantler, so perhaps the hidden party was closer to her than the other? Could it even be the Breeder was only going along to make the sister happy? Maybe she didn't know anything at all, or maybe she would be more likely to let slip a little detail.

Roise was ever vigilant about calories, but she took one brownie just to have something in her hand. It would make her less threatening. "Oh, yes. This is nice," she said in a noncommittal way, looking at the bell and taking a small bite of brownie. She stuck out her other hand to receive the bell and gave it an experimental jingle. She really hoped Cab never got a toy like this. So noisy!

"Hmm... my friend's new pokémon is a Rattata. Do they like bells?" she asked to prolong the conversation. She wondered how long Medley would be gone. A quick glance around the shop showed that the other shopper's ghost pokémon wasn't to be seen. But then ghost's could vanish in a blink anyway just to mess with you.

Opal happily took one of the brownies, and they were delightfully different. The combination of bitterness and sweetness mixed well with the richness of the chocolate. Even with how good the sweet was, the presence of the other customer filled Opal with unease and made the brownie taste a little more bitter than before. She shook her head, thinking that her head was tricking her. It wouldn't be the first time, anyway.

The young trainer scanned the aisles and found the candy aisle, where she picked up some packages. Maybe Nerezza would like these... Opal turned around to where her Gastly usually was, but she was not there. The girl remembered that her Pokemon was missing in action, and she hoped wildly that she was not in any danger.

Nerezza's figurative heart was beating frantically. Oh shoot, oh shoot, what do I do, what do I do?! She could tell by a tingling sensation throughout her "body" that it was an Antidote that was smashed. Nerezza quivered at the voice and she cautiously moved through the wall to face the speaker. To her surprise, it was a Pokemon that she had only heard of: a Mewtwo. The Gastly understood now: this Pokemon was hiding from the Rockets. Poor thing... she thought. "Gast-gast! Gastly!" Please, I mean no harm! Not to you, your trainer, or your friends! Please believe me!

Catherine lowered her hand, the other items she had ready to strike the other with dropping to the floor. "Why didn't you say so?" she giggled as she floated up to the Gastly. "Your trainer seems to be thinking about you, don't you think you should return to her?" she smiled as she patted Nerezza. Without an answer, Catherine took hold of the Gastly and teleported away, aiming to take her downstairs.

As Medley reached the last top step, Catherine had already left the presence of the second floor. "Oh crap!" she cursed aloud as she stamped her foot in dismay. She called down to Meeka, but the Breeder was too busy with Roise to even hear her.

"Rattata's have large teeth hmm..." she muttered as she became lost in thought, digging through small trinkets and things. "Maybe something soft for her to chew on?" she asked as she dropped the bell and offered a small chew toy instead.

Catherine was already down on the first floor, standing right behind the counter in full view. She gave a small, absent minded wave towards Opal and pointed to Nerezza silently, giggling as if she were a elementary student who had just heard a immature joke. "I think she is yours." she whispered than teleported away.

Medley tumbled down the stairs, cursing and bellowing disgusting words in pain as she stumbled. "Did you see her?!" she screamed at her sister, shaking her violently. Meeka blinked. "I didn't...Did she...?" Medley nodded her head. Were they caught?

"That sounds better," Roise said, giving the toy a slight squeeze and pleased that it didn't squeak. She'd gotten through half of her brownie now. "Interesting story, actually." Roise's voice hardened. "Her Rattata was just one of many being mistreated by Rockets, but was recently rescued." She wanted to watch the other woman's reaction carefully, but was thwarted.

She heard a woman shout. "What!?" Roise's head whipped around. The ghost pokémon was back, but she saw nothing else different. Now she had to wonder if all THREE were involved. The other shopper had entered the building in a rush, as Roise recalled. Sounded like it was time for the badge.

Roise took a few steps backward to place herself between the three women and the main exit. She wished she knew more about the rest of the building, there were likely to be other exits but she'd just have to deal with that when the time arose. "Zatao Pokémon Police," she said, sliding her badge out of her purse. "I can either interview each one of you separately, or someone can tell me who you're hiding in this shop's attic."

Nerezza was startled at the sudden kind attitude the Mewtwo showed. She winced at the pat, and cried out aloud as she was held by the Pokemon and teleported to the first floor. As they arrived, the first thing the Gastly noticed was silence. Silence from shock, most likely. Nerezza, eyes wide open, watched as the Mewtwo waved to the Gastly's trainer, pointed to herself, then teleported away. Still in shock, the Pokemon floated there momentarily then rushed over to her trainer.

Opal was still looking at sweets when it happened. A large giggling Pokemon stood on the step of the stairs with her Gastly in its hands. It waved and whispered to her, then vanished. When Nerezza returned to her, she had dropped the package she was holding, and also dropped her jaw. Opal looked to Meeka, then to her sister coming down the stairs, then to the other shopper, who had just revealed to the three that she was a cop. Bending down to pick up the dropped package, the trainer was about to say something, but reasoned against it, knowing pretty well that it would be best just to keep her trap shut.

From Medley's sudden outburst, it was quite evident that both of the sisters were hiding a secret that shouldn't and can't be known. However, after hearing that one of their customers was a cop...They had no choice. Meeka opened her mouth to speak, but Medley spoke first. "Listen, the truth is something hard to...handle sometimes. The person we have up there is uh...a little uh..." But the loud boom that occurred on the second floor described the last word of Medley's statement, dangerous. The atmosphere of the room seemed to go quiet. El toddled down the stairs, crying. He was badly injured on his left side, a burn mark over his shoulder.

Meeka's eyes widened and muttered an, "Oh crap...!" Whether it was just reflex or a warning next, Meeka tackled her sister away as the top floor crashed in, wood cackling as the Mewtwo growled. Pushing her sister off her, Medley cringed. "Oh...crap..." she screamed, frowning and hitting anything in front of her in anger. "Why, why did you have to show yourself now?! You never show yourself at home, ever, ever!"

Meeka held her breathe in fright. Catherine was prone to angry out bursts once in a while yes, but this was entirely different. This was her second personality showing, her most violent and feared side. The Mewtwo had never showed her second side at home before. But something seemed to string it out of her this time. Could it be the anger Medley was feeling? Possibly, but the should be the least of the group's worry. As of now, they need to get the Mewtwo to calm down, before she she does more than just injure.

Dangerous wasn't what Roise would have initially gleaned from the boom coming from above. A boom could mean anything, and the singed pooch could have gotten in the way of some crazy experiment. Sounds like Rockets to me. Her scowl was murderous as she took two steps toward the stairs. And two steps was all she got.

Her arms instinctively covered her head as she ducked and rolled away from the collapsing ceiling. Splinters and wood chips rained down on her and the tensed when the floor thudded with the impact of the Mewtwo from above. She couldn't make sense of what the other was shouting about, almost as if she hadn't known exactly what she was hiding. But it also sounded like an accusation, maybe things were tense between her and the mysterious hidden party.

Roise didn't want to look a coward, so she got up and began brushing some of the wood dust from herself, but stopped with one hand just above her shoulder, eyes wide and mind racing. They have a Mewtwo. They're keeping a Mewtwo here! She was outraged. Rockets or no, they had no right to detain pokémon as they saw fit! It was clear they cared for the other pokémon with them - the Stantler, the Poochyena, and the others - but perhaps this Mewtwo simply had wished to be let be and the sisters didn't want to go along with that. Whatever the reason, however it happened, something had to be done.

Roise turned, pointing a finger at Medley, the one shouting. "You'll not speak to her that way!" She pulled the gender from Medley's previous shout moments before everything came crashing down. "How dare you hold hostage a pokémon such as this! Or any pokémon!" To Roise, the Mewtwo's behavior made sense, a captive furious with her captors and wreaking havoc. However, even she could tell that if left unchecked things could get out of hand quickly. She reached for Opal, "You may want to get out of here. Quickly," she added, motioning toward the door.

Opal was petrified. First the mysterious appearance of the Pokemon on the stairs, then the ceiling crashed down, and now the same Mewtwo, now furious looking was standing before them. The trainer was knocked backwards from the initial crash, and she was sitting on the floor with an expression on her face that was a mix between confusion, terror, and pity.

Opal looked to the two sisters and then to Roise, who seemed as furious as the Mewtwo. But as she listened to the cop, the girl thought of something. The person that Medley was talking to must have been this Mewtwo! And Medley sounded caring enough... There was no way she would be holding anyone hostage! The trainer bit her lip and thought wildly on what to do, but before she could do anything, Nerezza floated up.

Nerezza, along with the Mewtwo and the cop, was enraged. If anything, she was the most angry one of all. The Gastly gritted her sharp teeth and cried out, hoping to get the attention of all. "Gasty-gast-gastly! Gast-gast-gastly-gast-gastly! Gast-gastly!" All of you, just stop it, all right? These two are not holding an-y-one hostage! If anything, they are protecting this poor Pokemon! Protecting her from the Rockets! I overheard this one talking with the Mewtwo and each sounded like they cared for each other! These two sisters know that having this Pokemon here is dangerous but they do it anyway! Why? Because they don't want her in Team Rocket's hands! They care for her! So everyone just shut up and let's find a way to calm her down before all of Zatao comes to find out what is going on! Nerezza didn't care that they couldn't understand her. Heck, she couldn't care less! She just wanted to get her point across, and more than that, she wanted to help the kind and thoughtful Mewtwo. The Gastly closed her eyes and floated back down to her trainer.

"You are not getting the gist of it, are you?" Medley spitefully said to Roise. "We are not holding her hostage. If you give us a chance to explain-" Medley sentence was cut off as the Mewtwo growled again, turning to Roise with a distinct flash of anger in her eyes. She stamped her foot and pointed to the door. "Leave, now." her telepathic voice spoke, upset. "How dare you fill Meeka with fright, make Medley angry. People like you should be punished! Leave!" Taking a step forward, the orange haired breeder lowered the Mewtwo's hand. "Calm down, Catherine." she said, eyes following towards her sister. "Calm down, they are not here to hurt us. Trust me, they don't want to. We are not in fear or them...But worried that you might be discovered and taken away. I'm sorry if our upset emotions worried you. I apologize." Turning towards Roise, Meeka shook her head. "I apologize towards you to, for acting so suspicious. This Mewtwo, she's a run away from the Rockets. She and-"

Taking a step forward, Medley sighed. "Meeka, let me explain. All this is my doing." Giving a small smile towards Catherine to show everything was alright, she continued. "When Meeka and I first moved to Zatao, we were completely poor. All we had was enough money to build this home here. We turned it into a general store and started to sell wares, hoping it will somehow help us get off our feet. Everything went fine for a few months but than we started homing more and more Pokemon. There were times we hardly had enough money to ourselves. I heard of the Rockets when I was running out to make a delivery. They made me a proposition of money and well, I accepted. Since the pay was pretty good, I couldn't back down. They wanted me supervise an "experiment". To my dismay, it was the creation of a female Mewtwo. They were going to use her as a breeding machine, since creating Mewtwos from scratch took a lot of time and effort. I escaped with her when I had the chance, but the Rockets really didn't like their toy being taken away. Since we were being chased after, I took Catherine here to only place where I hoped Rockets wouldn't find us. We have been lucky so far, but we had to be weary of everyone who came here. Any one of them could be Rockets and neither of us wanted to just say, "Hey we have a Mewtwo here, wanna meet her?". That'd be just plain foolish."

As Medley sung her tail, Catherine gritted her teeth. Even though she knew both of the two were not threats, her anger would just not settle. Suddenly, the Mewtwo fell to her knees, clutching her head. "Me-Medley, its coming..." she said, whimpering in pain. "Medley, she's coming, I cannot hold her back!" Medley took a step back. "C-Catherine. N-No. Not here...not here..." But it was too late, it showed itself and it left, bashing through the side wall and making an escape. Meeka only watched in horror as the Mewtwo dashed away. Turning back towards the two, she bowed her head. "Catherine...is also cursed with memories from her passed. She was trained like any Mewtwo to have a blood thirsty attitude. She has...killed many in her youth and she was haunted with those memories for a long time. She was treated no better than garbage by her creators, filling her heart with anger and hate. When she met my sister and felt her kindness, her mind made a second personality. This personality is the Catherine we know today, the childish, kind, and gentle one. But sometimes, the Catherine from the past returns. She won't be satisfied until she gets her hands dirty. I am begging you two, please, help us calm her down...Please."

Medley's initial anger and spite-filled words served only to worsen Roise's mood, but she was thoroughly deflated by the reprimand from the Mewtwo. She had only ever briefly seen one in a dark alley oh so long ago. This same one actually, although she didn't spot the resemblance. But even without experience of the kind, their tempers were as legendary as they themselves and she knew better than to trifle with one. It didn't do much to change her feelings about Meeka and Medley. The two were still suspect to immoral if not illegal activities as far as Roise was concerned.

Fully prepared to leave if it would save her life, Roise had gone back as far as the door, but since Medley was addressing her, she hoped the Mewtwo would let her stay to listen. She cast a furtive glance at the angry pokémon, and then gave Medley her full, if still biased, attention. Once a Rocket, always a Rocket. Hard headed and mule stubborn could be used to describe Roise when it came to matters of the law. By admitting allegiance with the Rockets, no matter how short, Medley might as well have said, "Don't believe a word I say. It would be utter foolishness to."

At the end of Medley's story, any close-minded response Roise might have made was put out of mind by the Mewtwo's behavior. At Medley's explanation, Roise wondered if Catherine's resurfaced persona might be better put to use destroying those who created and tortured her. It was an idea which would never receive support from her superiors though.

She took a breath through gritted teeth to calm herself. Being angry didn't help calm others. Calm induced calm, or so Cab loved to say. She made great effort to uncurl her hands and flex her fingers some to relieve their tension. It took a second breath for her to feel sufficiently calm. "Yes. I will help to calm her. What can we do?"

As she listened intently to Medley's woeful tale, Opal kept one eye on the police officer. The trainer, to be blunt, didn't trust the woman. She seemed very intent to arrest anyone having anything to do with the Rockets in one way or another. Opal didn't necessarily agree with their views; quite the contrary, as a matter of fact. But just because someone had been involved with the organization doesn't make them totally dedicated full blast to them. Opal sighed in her head. Her capacity for forgiveness was gargantuan... Perhaps that was her weakness.

The trainer listened to Medley wrap up hers and Meeka's tale, then glanced to the Mewtwο, who looked pained, almost like her mind was being tortured. Taking pity on the creature, Opal wildly thought on what to do when the Pokemon collapsed and rushed away. The girl's mouth hung open and she staggered back a few steps before being caught by her Gastly, who was as surprised and terrified as her trainer.

Hearing the bad news about the imminent blood-thirsty rampage, Opal's eyes widened and she sprung up, even though she was already standing. "I will help! Why wouldn't I? Seeing innocent Pokemon being hurt... I can't stand it. But the question is: how are we to calm her down if we cannot approach her without risk of being hurt ourselves?" Opal could feel Nerezza beside her, and her Gastly's presence calmed her and gave her hope. Somehow, they would make everything all right... How bittersweet... We would save people and Pokemon from being hurt without them knowing anything about it. Then again... perhaps it's best that way.

Now that all had voiced their consent to help the troubled Mewtwo, all four women made a mad dash through the tattered hole in the shop after her. While they ran, Medley began outlining a possible plan for calming Catherine. The task at hand felt very daunting, but it turned out to be unneeded. They were fifty yards from the shop and within sight of Catherine when she stumbled, fell, and did not get up. They found her passed out and covered with sweat. It was quite the task to lift her and get her back to the shop, everyone was on pins and needles worried the unstable Mewtwo might wake up at any moment. They were met back at the shop by a group of pokémon, Medley and Meeka's horde worried for the safety of their loved ones.

Then began the difficult task of keeping the whole thing quiet. While Opal wholeheartedly agreed to never breath a word to anyone, Roise was less willing to cooperate. It took a list of names and old laboratory locations - being a Rocket no longer, Medley couldn't vouch for whether or not they were still in use - for Roise to agree to keep their secret. As she left with her information, Meeka insisted she take a parting brownie and the chew toy she'd looked at earlier. Opal remained for a while to enjoy a calming cup of tea with the two sisters. And once the shop was empty the pair closed up early and made plans to have the wall repaired. They let Catherine sleep off her anger and hoped she would be feeling better by morning.
