Twila had stayed back and allowed her mate to do as he must, she had kept watch on the pups who were clearly confused and then listened to Yasuo's words. Words she knew that Kalani would refuse to agree with. She let out a soft sigh and turned to her pups, watching as Tirin seemed to go to his father and Alya just lay there looking confused.
"Kalani?" She questioned wondering whether they would go to the ceremony, it would mean her mate would have to agree that they were dead and she was sure he would refuse to.
Alya like her brother hadn't a clue what was going on and when her brother bumped in to her she moved closer to him for a while. She stayed as close as she could till him until he moved to their father and so she moved to their mother and curled up next to her.
"Mother whats going on?" She looked at her mother and then her father. What was happening?
Kalani looked at Yasuo, he hadn't calmed down and then with what the alpha said made anger ripple through his body.
"Ola is not dead."
He stated it, answering his mates question. He lowered his tail and turned to Tirin who was close to his legs. He nudged him gently and licked his head.
"I am sorry you both had to see that. The goddess would not have been happy if the female had stayed. She would have then punished us." He spoke softly to the pups, laying himself down so he could explain it better at their level.
He then looked up at Twila and sighed, he knew they would have to go to the ceremony even if he did not believe they were dead. He was sure something had happened to them, Ola would not leave the pack without a good reason or by force.
"Tirin, Alya I need to explain something. We must follow the others, they are going to perform a ceremony to say that our missing members our dead. We don't know that they are dead but I just need you both to be there and to be good okay? If you have any question about it you wait till we return to the den and then your mother will explain it all." He hoped that was enough to explain it for now. He wasn't happy about this but he knew they had to obey their alpha even if he disagreed with it all.

Tirin watched Yasuo and the others leave, then squinted one eye as his father licked the top of his head. The pup plunked down and scratched behind his ear. The movement of his fur had made an itch.
"But if they aren't dead then why are we telling the Goddess they are?" Tirin asked curiously. "Doesn't she know they aren't?"
Tirin looked after the rest of his pack, remembering his father had said to be good. The pup stood when his parents began moving, although his ears were pinned back and his face contorted in confusion. Adults made no sense. Why did they have to announce a death that wasn't real? Wouldn't the Goddess be mad about that too?
Tirin was about to ask again, but took one look at his mother and fell silent. He would wait until they got back to the cave, after the ceremony. He would be scolded if he didn't go along with his parents and be good the way Alya would be. The intense urge to tackle her and run off overcame him, but he just tucked his tail low and told himself not to. If speaking out of turn would get him scolded, that certainly would!
((I just didn't want to have to write a separate post just for Tirin following his parents from the clearing, so I included it here.))
