Jet snarled in response at the smack, but didn't retaliate. He looked up at the adult warily again and sat up where he was, unsure how far the male would go to break up fights. He licked a paw as the other pups ate, pretending it didn't matter that perfectly good, fresh meat was being eaten pratically in front of him.
When the large male turned to him, Jet replied, a little coldly, "No." He was still bitter over the fact that the male had stopped his fight and, now that the danger was over, was convinced that he would have won, too, if he had been allowed to continue.
Snorting at the latest question, as it it weren't of much importance, he turned away and laid down, watching the rain poor down gloomily and wondering how the male had found prey in such weather.

Loopy frowned as the pup turned away. He stood again and moved over to tear a big chunk of meat off the rabbit before moving over to place it gently in front of Jet. "Well even if you're not hungry, here's some anyway." He said cheerfully as he lay down next to Jet. "So you're alone out here, huh?" The varg asked softly, smiling at Jet. "Being alone can suck sometimes, can't it?"

Jet, in an obvious fashion, made a show of scooting farther away from the male. He tipped his nose away from the meat pointedly, although he couldn't help but to lick his lips and to glance at it occasionally.
To hungry to really pay attention to anything other than the food, he attempted speech. "Won't the... uh... other guy, Hermit, or something... like... need it more than me?" he said, pausing frequently as the meat proved to be a distraction. "He's... hurt... or something." he finished after a while.

"That's sweet of you to think of Heret before yourself, but it looks like he's got enough food. It was a pretty fat rabbit." Loopy said with a smile, amused by how Jet was pretending not to be hungry when it was so obvious that he was. "Go ahead and eat it. You know, so you'll have enough energy to go out hunting by yourself later." The wolf nudged Jet lightly as he smiled. Best to let him eat and then try to talk to him. Maybe letting Jet act like he was really the one in charge was how he could get through to the pup. "Thanks for letting us stay in your place. It's pretty big for just you, don't you think."

Jet nodded absent-mindedly, flickering an ear when the male told him to just go ahead and take it. "Well, if you insist. And that's a good point, I guess." he muttered without mentioning that he had yet to make a successful kill. At least, something he considered successful, because, really, eating fallen chicks didn't bring much thrill.
He ate the meat happily, tail wagging, although he tried to pretend he was only doing it for the sake of the older male. He pretty much failed, at the speed in which he ate, but thought he did a pretty convincing job.
When he was finished, he licked his lips, feeling much more better than before, and finally replied. "It's no problem, really." he said, glancing up. "And I guess, but at least there's always room for company." he said, shrugging, before peering up at him. "What's your name, anyway, mister? Mine's Jet."

Loopy smiled as he watched the pup scarf down the food. "Jet, hmm? My name's Loopy." He glanced around the big cave before looking back to Jet. "You know, my den's pretty big too and we've got lots of room for company. I think you should consider coming with us. You know, just so I can repay you for letting me stay here." He just couldn't stand to let this pup wander around on his own and starve to death. "You could meet my daughter, Bramble."

Jet raised a brow at the name, but made no comment. Instead, he hopped a little closer to the male, deciding Loopy wasn't so bad. He yawned, taking interested at first in the pitter-patterings of the rain, and then in Loopy's paws. Jet had a particular habit of sniffing paws to get to know someone better, and it was no exception in regard to Loopy, as Jet was soon up and milling about the large male's front paws, prodding them with his nose.
When Loopy started speaking again, he sat down right in between Loopy's front paws and looked up at him. "I dunno." he murmired, observing Loopy's paws again. The idea was nice and he would have jumped at the chance (he liked to go around guilt-tripping others to hunt for him, after all, and then leave after a few days or so) if not for the two pups behind him, probably asleep. He was sure Loopy was taking care of them, as he remembered something about defending Heret from their father or something, and Loopy seemed like a nice male, which made him relucatant. He didn't particularly like the idea of staying with that Balin fellow, even for a few days.

As Jet started sniffing at his paws, Loopy chuckled and nuzzled the pup in a friendly gesture. He noted the pup's hestiance and figured that he had a pretty good idea of what was causing it. "I wouldn't worry too much about Balin. I'm sure he's only easily upset because of his day. It's probably been the most horrible day of Balin's, and Heret's, lives. Give him a chance, okay?" Loopy suggested, smiling down at the pup. "And if you come with us, I can teach you to hunt. You can always get better, right?"

Jet paused at the nuzzle, nuzzling back by force of habit. He was startled by this, as it had been a while since he had been nuzzled, and he immedietly retreated to Loopy's side to escape another one, lest he embarass himself.
"Well, he's still a pup. There's lots of "the most horrible day of his life" waiting for him, I'm sure." he said, a bit too harshly, grasping at whatever excuse he cound find. Still, the hunting comment was a bit appealing.

"Hopefully none as bad as today." Loopy murmured, looking across the cave to the sleeping brothers. He twisted to peer at Jet, smiling. "So what do you say? Are you willing to try and live with him? I bet you two could even become friends if you tried to be. I think you'd like my mate too. He grew up pretty much on his own like you have been. Maybe he could even give you some advice?"

Jet flopped onto his stomach, curling around near Loopy, although he made it seem that it was only be chance that he landed so close to the male. He grunted in reply, closing his eyes, feeling tired and sated from his meal. Quirking an ear, he opend one eye to look up at Loopy.
""He?"" he inquired, tyring not to sound rude. He almost got killed by a crazed female when he stated he had never heard of same-gendered mates, or something. Thankfully, he had managed to get away unharmed, but ever since, he tried to be careful around the topic.

Loopy smiled down at Jet, "Yes, he. My mate's name is Rag and we've been together for longer than you've been alive." He said with a laugh. "Gender shouldn't matter when it comes to love, don't you think?" The wolf wasn't mad that Jet had questioned Rag's gender. It was normal for people first discovering that he was mated to another male. "So, you made up your mind, Jet?"

"Rag." Jet repeated. He thought their names were silly, really, but to each one's own, he supposed. He was too tired to really answer, but he did manage to to croak out a, "I guess it wouldn't hurt to try." before he pressed up close against Loopy's side and fell asleep to the sound of the rain, still falling heavily, outside.

Loopy smiled down at the pup. "Well good," He whispered as the boy fell asleep. That made three new pups in one night. The idea of having four children to look after filled the male with joy, but he did wonder just how Rag was going to react to the knowledge. Oh well, he'd get over it.
