"Use Thunderbolt, Penners! Try to keep him down!" Cab wasn't sure if she should be trusting this move again, but it had been so helpful already, it must be worth another shot.
Without responding, Penners backed up a safe distance - she didn't want to be caught in her own blast after all - and called down lightning again. It fell in a thin web, once more playing across her opponent's hide in an attempt to sink in and stiffen his muscles.

Branimir felt the last of the tingling in his muscles fade away just as the other trainer called out her command and he leapt out of the path of the lightning just in time.
"Alright! Branimir, use body slam!" Raina called out to him and instantly her giant canine companion was pivoting on his hind legs to face the little mouse. An almost maniacal look on his face as he bounded forward and executed the attack. Poor little mouse, good thing ratatta are resiliant pokemon or this one would be a pancake for sure.

"Penners!" Cab just barely stopped herself from running out into the battle. "Penners!? Can you hear me?"
From beneath the mighty furball came a pitiful squeak, but only the two combatants could hear it. Cab's voice was like thunder just close enough to hear, but too far away to discern. Having very little at her disposal, she searched out flesh from under all that orange and black fur to Bite on.

Raina grinned and called out "Good job boy!" to Branimir as he squashed the little ratatta, "That'll teach it to paralyze a pokemon like you!" she laughed and watched the scene unfolding in front of her.
Seeing that no damage could be done by the other pokemon from it's position beneath Branimir she called out to him "Alright Branimir, let it up now and use flamethrower!" she watched eagerly as Branimir jumped backwards, landing a few feet from his opponent and unleashed a dangerous stream of flames aimed directly at the poor creature.

Cab felt so relieved to see Penners shake herself to right her messed up fur after being squished by the large canine. "Think you can go on?" she asked. She didn't want to push Penners too hard. But when the little rattata nodded and began bouncing on her feet, Cab figured she must be compelled to see this through to the end. "Just get in close and Bite!" she commanded.
Penners was a bit disappointed to hear Cab playing it safe. Thunderbolt could work, even if it was risky... But for now, she heeded Cab's command. She dived and dodged through the stream of fire Branimir had unleashed, getting quite singed along the way, until she could get in close enough for a Bite.

Branimir growled as the mouse clamped down it's teeth in his paw. Shaking it fiercly from side to side he finally flung the rodent off into the distance and used body slam again without waiting for Raina's order. He knew how to handle this now.
Raina watched as Branimir retaliated without her command. "So much for him being obediant all the time... though, I suppose if I called out a command he'd listen... oh well whatever works..." she muttered to herself as she watched, waiting for the battle to come to an end.

"Pen- What?"
It seemed to be a day for disobedience, because rather than wait to hear if Cab was continuing to play it safe, another bolt of lightning drifted down and hovered around Branimir. Penners had started the attack before she'd even landed, she couldn't let this oversized pup get the better of her. She hoped this time Thunderbolt would slow it down.

Raina watched as both pokemon acted on their own and rolled her eyes. This was just another example of how you can take the pokemon out of the wild but not the wild out of the pokemon. As the thunder attack reached Branimir Raina cringed but sighed in relief when she saw that he was still able to move. "Alright Branimir, use Rock Smash!" Raina commanded.
Hearing a command from Raina brought Branimir back under control and he obediantly listened to what she said. Leaping back from his opponent he closed his eyes, concentrating, then lifted his head and howled, suddenly the field was coverered in flying rocks, all heading in the general direction of the ratatta.

Good grief... see what happens when you don't wait and listen? She didn't want to waste time reprimanding Penners now, but Cab was not pleased at all that she'd acted without orders. "Quick Attack, Penners!"
Penners wasn't feeling so great, and was also quite upset that her Thunderbolt had failed yet again. If it weren't for Cab's voice urging her on, she might have stopped then and there. As it was she mustered all her strength and energy into what could be her final attack.

Raina watched as the attack hit the other pokemon and did quite a bit of damage, the rodent was now looking worn out and seemed to be just barely hanging on. The end was near and she could tell Branimir knew it as well.
She watched as he attempted to dodge the quick attack but failed, that little mouse was fast when it wanted to be. He was knocked back a few feet by the impact but was soon up and ready to retaliate once again. "Flamethrower!" Raina called to her canine companion.
Upon hearing the command Branimir crouched down for what could be the final time in this battle and unleashed a stream of flame straight at the little mouse pokemon in front of him.

Things got extra-crispy for Penners, searing heat and Cab's worried cry were the last things she was aware of before blacking out.
Cab didn't wait long before rushing to Penners' side. The soot covered ratatta was very still, but breathing. Cab gently picked her up and held her close, not yet ready to send her back into her pokéball. It would be best though, there'd be less chance of trauma during the walk back to town if she was safe and snug in her ball.
She stood up, tapped Penners' gently with her pokéball, calling her back in, and looked out toward the other trainer. "Well fought," she said.[0/800] xp

Branimir watched as his opponent collapsed before him and he stepped back, sitting on his haunches and looked to Raina then back at the other trainer who had run out to her pokemon. His tail wagged slightly, happy that he'd won another battle for Raina.
As the battle ended Raina rushed forward to stand beside Branimir, patting his side she smiled up at him. "Good job boy!" she said before turning and walking the few steps to stand next to the other trainer. "Yah, your ratatta did a great job too!" swinging her pack around to the front of her body she rummaged through it for a few moments before pulling out a few homemade treats. "Here, when she wakes up give her these. They'll help her recover faster." she said as she handed them over.
"Maybe when she gets stronger we can have a rematch." Raina smiled kindly then turned, climbed up onto Branimir and she waved goodbye as they took off back towards their home.
