Hippy smiled a little shyly as she settled herself a bit, her red eyes taking on a little more life now.
Hope... that's what it was.
"We're a really secluded pride... we don't get outsiders much, and never males. We don't allow them inside, and we hide as much as we can to prevent something like this from happening... though I guess it happened anyway."
She warmed to the things she told Ebere, about how the pride was set up, the history behind it... why they only allowed females and what happened to the boy cubs that came from the litters. She could have talked for hours, and after a while, she started to feel like she had. The sun had even reached mid-day and passed it, leave Hippy feeling unselfconscious to have talked so long. That, and exhausted. She still wasn't caught up from her wild run, and even the food Ebere had brought for her wasn't enough to replenish all her reserves.
"I'm sorry, Ebere..." She sighed, looking sheepish. "I didn't mean to talk so much."

Ebere chuckled softly as she got to her feet again. "Get some more rest my friend. We have a long road to travel till we get back home." The stories she had told made Ebere long to go there, to be part of a family again. She didn't understand the part about males, her father had always been a loving father and a tender mate to her mother, but she wasn't one to sneer at her new friend's life.
"Rest and when you wake I will have another meal for you. We can plan from there."
Stepping over her, Ebere nuzzled the top of Hippy's head lightly before padding into the twilight, hope blazing in her heart once more. Through thick or thin, she would stand by her new friend's side and maybe at the end of it all, she would finally have a home again.
