"Yeah, well, lucky." Trying to process that last sentence made him shake his head slightly; probably still just a little addled, curse him. "Right. Sure," Fantasia responded, eyes narrowed at the sunlight hitting the water's surface. "Angling like what? I thought you just sat there until the fish came, and then whacked them out before they got away." Bears did it fine, but then again they had huge paws and claws that could probably rend him in two with a single swipe.

"Bears do that. But bears are also a lot bigger than us, Fanta," she said with a grin. She made a shushing noise and told him to watch what she did.
Silently, she stood there for a long time, feeling the smaller fish nibble at her fur. It didn't bother her at all. She was beyond used to that feeling. After all, she had inherited her mother's thick, long coat. Waiting a few more minutes, there was a big ol' fish in front of her and she smirked, turning her head slightly before striking like a viper. Her head went underwater, and when she came back up, the fish was flopping about in her mouth. But her puppy teeth had sunk so far in, the fish was stuck.
Trotting to the shore, she dropped her head to the ground, put a paw on the fish's head and tail and then let go. "Momma said he'll suffocate like this, so just keep him there until he's not movin' anymore."

Silent, the pup watched her work, gaze quite intent on her movements. He even managed a few practice swipes of his own, though they caused him to sway yet again (was he really so delicate?!), and he grumbled under his breath, promising to himself that he would never recklessly charge in a hunt again if he could help it in any way. Stupid, stupid, stupid. "Suffocate, yeah," Fantasia said vaguely when Jayel mentioned it, finding the scent of fresh meat delectable. Figuring she wouldn't share, he began to wade into the water and copy the move himself.
A minute later, after patiently sitting as still as a rock, gray toes shot forward. A stream of water, and along with it something flopping, flew from his paws, but before Fantasia could procure the fish it tossed itself back into the water and thrashed away blindly down river, leaving behind it a very wet puppy whom chased after it for only a few seconds longer before giving up. He scowled and shook himself off as he returned to Jayel empty-pawed. "Slick little guys, I swear . . ."

"It's not easy," she said, watching him as he came up empty handed. By now, the fish was dead and she nudged it to him. She wasn't really hungry right now, as she'd eaten earlier. "Take this one. It's really not good to try fishing on an empty stomach. You get all sorts of impatient." She smirked and chuckled, knowing that's why her teachings didn't work for the male. Fanta was being impatient and the fish read that.
Sitting down on her romp, she shook herself free of any access water before sighing and watching the boy. "...So, how many siblings you got?" Small talk again. She wanted to get to know him. Maybe he could become a friend over time.

If she offered, he took, and gladly; Jayel was right, hunger made all sorts of patience problems. Thus Fantasia ravenously went at the fish, tearing off a good portion to begin with and chewing with vigor. Several gulpfulls in, he paused to answer her. "Just two, a brother and a sister like I mentioned earlier. Yensid and Terabithia. She's oldest. Has a red rose on her. Yensid has sparkles." Then it was back to chomp chomp chomp after those few short sentences. Indeed fish were a prize if his tastebuds said anything - no wonder they were hard to catch!

It was weird watching the other wolf pup eat. She wrinkled her nose at his impatience, but that was alright. It was obvious he was starving or something close to it. Sparkles and roses? Weird. "My siblings all have spots or swirls. Occasionally some orange and purple mixed in. Daddy's got purple scars on his ankles.. Momma's got spots and swirls on her. Daddy's got the bigger spots like on my back," she stated proudly. Her siblings and family was beautiful to her. She couldn't have asked for a more perfect family.
"I wanna meet your family! I wanna see. 'cause...They sound so pretty." She sighed with that and then licked her paws, feeling scales stuck on her little claws. Ugh! Gross.

"Pretty? I guess," Fantasia replied during another small pause, then snapped up the last bit of meat and sat back, quite satisfied as he licked his maw clean. "Disneyana, my mom, she's where we got the rose and the sparkles from, all blue with white gloves on her front paws - like my tail." He wagged it a little to prove his point. "She kinda looks like a princess when I think about it. I got the moon on my forehead from her too. Allah, though, he's . . ." How to describe it? "Dad's weird-looking, browns with a sickly green. But they really love each other, weird looks or not, so here I am."
When he realized his maw was getting sticky from the blood, Fantasia made a face and dunked his head into the water to cleanse it, popping back up to shake himself furiously. "My siblings look more colorful than I do," he added as an after thought, spying his reflection in the ensuing ripples as they slowly calmed once more. Funny, he had never really looked at himself too much before, more often finding his gaze upon the multicolored Terabithia or the glittering Yensid.

"My siblings are more colorful than me! One brother's got orange swirls. And the my sister gots purple on her! My other brother's got two different colors and a ton a spots on him," she nodded sagely after she spoke, like he knew what they'd look like. "We don't really know where my eye color came from. Momma says her family doesn't have green eyes. And daddy's eyes are blue. Momma's eyes are gray."
She watched the pup watch himself and grinned. She'd done that her first time near the water. She'd studied as much of herself as she could and found herself very plain. Which she liked. Momma said because she had no colors on her, that she'd live a very carefree life. So far, that was true. Her siblings had more worries than her. Then again, momma often called her scatterbrained. Like that was Jayel's fault.

"Mmm." Fantasia nodded vaguely, inspecting himself with a scrutinizing gaze. He sat up taller. "Same for me actually. Sort of. Dad's eyes are kinda yellow-brown, but they're definitely not as dark as mine. If I didn't have the moon, the rose, or the glove-tail on me, I would've suspected I was adopted," the pup stated, and finished his examination with a tiny shrug to turn back to Jayel. At least the pain was receeding into near nothingness now, and his head was getting clearer. "Thanks for the meal, Jayel. I should probably get back to my family, though, I wandered a little far from the den and they're probably worried. Guess you could visit some other time, though." He began to stand, pleased that his legs were no longer shaky. "You'll know our den when you smell it. A lot of roses and thorns."

So their meeting, however brief, was over, was it? That was alright. Jayel figured she'd made a friend today, so her day had been fairly well. She nodded, moved over to the male and gave him a friendly lick on the cheek. That's how mom said friends said goodbye. Plus, she'd no doubt find the other pup again, in the den of thorns and roses.
When she thought about, that was kind of pretty. She lived in the den under the bolder, not far from here. But she didn't tell him that. Jayel was under strict order to not tell anyone where the den was.
"I should probably get back to my den, too. Momma and Daddy probably have a story to tell!" She was excited about story time. "I'll see you around, Fanta!" She yipped as she raced towards her own den, not even bothering to see him off. Classic Jayel.
