Rivener looked up from the piano, the inconsistent song coming to an end as he pondered the gifts Ebony bought for Eiry. "Books, hunh? I'm sure he'll love them, then. He's a huge fan of reading. Especially old classics, so I'm sure he'll enjoy those." Riv smiled, trying to be encouraging. In all honesty he wasn't sure how Eiry would like books that were NOT exclusively Poe, but he didn't mention that.

Aphismet and Rivener both accepted the offered plates with a smile and a nod of their heads. Riv poked at the mound of pasta, cheese, broccoli and chicken, lifting an eyebrow. It looked like a big mess of ingredients, not particularly appetizing to his newly-developing palate. Shrugging, the Scorpion figured he'd at least give it a try.

"Ah, the patio sounds like a nice place!" Aphi responded to their host's question. "It'd be much less formal than eating in the dining room, hm?" Straightening, the chef waited for the purple-haired woman to show them the way out.

Ebony nodded at Rivener as she took her plate and walked past the piano, through the dining room and opened the sliding glass door to the patio. It was your typical English styled teak furniture with a giant umbrella to keep the sun at bay when it was at its strongest. "I like books too. I have many in the study. I could show you later if you want. A little tour perhaps? Though there's not much of the house you haven't seen already now." She laughed before sitting down. They were sure to ask about the huge greenhouse just a few feet away, but she would let them ask at their own leisure.

"So what's been happening with you all? How is your brother Aphismet?" Ebony had to quickly input the last part before she chickened out in her curiosity. How odd for her to be somewhat afraid of someone much younger than herself? Yet, Isikoro had a knack for making her feel like she was about nine years old again. Not that she would ever admit to that.

Rivener and Aphismet followed Ebony outside, the Scorpion mostly focused on the plate in his hands and Aphismet mostly focused on not tripping over anything. He had to say he liked this place; it was very much a "home", not just a picture-perfect house like some people lived in. Hell, it even looked like more than one person lived here, instead of the singular purple-haired woman currently residing. Ebony seemed to hold her Father quite dear to her, if she kept things of his so reverently: that piano had not a speck of dust on it.

Rivener took a seat on one of the outdoorsy-type chairs, glancing up at their host and shrugging. "A tour's fine, but I honestly don't think I'd be needing to see your house after this. Although, well, if you end up with a Raevan, then maybe yeah... If you don't mind." In truth the Scorpion couldn't care less about Ebony's house, since he'd already seen the important bits: the kitchen and the living room. And now this nice back porch, too. They could smell the nice fresh sea breeze from here.

Aphismet didn't bother pointing out how rude Rivener's comments might have been. A simple frown sufficed, the white-haired man earning himself a tolerant sigh and a shrug from the Sigel. Aphi quickly turned his attention to Ebony, drawing his eyebrows up from that frown into a more friendly smile, trying to make up for his ward. "We're all doing quite well; Isi's work at the lab is going good, he seems to be making friends which is a big surprise. And his side-business of landscaping with Eiry's help is doing well too. I'm still working working working, and Rivener's been keeping busy as well. I wish you'd come back for classes though; ever since the caves you haven't called me. I was starting to think you were avoiding me." Aphi chuckled, although he still thought this was the case. Although by the tone of Eb's voice, perhaps she was avoiding Isi...

She was just about to take a bit of Aphismet's casserole when Rivener's comment made her pause. Mention of the soon to be Raevan was giving her conflicting emotions a lot lately. Before the capture Ebony had been proud and looking very much forward to her ward's arrival. She still felt that way sometimes, but other times she felt this incredible pressure well in her chest. Fear most likely.

Forcing a smile as best she could muster, "Why would I mind? Not like I'm hiding anything." After all, they didn't need to know the house had a basement. "Besides, you should feel welcome here for when the kid comes along. He or she could do worse than be friends with you. At least...I hope you can be friends with them...if you want..." Again feeling like she was rambling, Ebony quickly placed a fork full of chicken and broccoli in her mouth. It was delicious!

"I'm glad. They deserve to get out of the house every now and then. And I am sorry for backing out of classes as of late. I've not being feeling that well and well, there's work too." It wasn't a lie persay. She really had been sick, if not physically or medically. And she was working if by a looser definition than what others might consider. "I should be more up for it next week if you want to start again. Oh and by the way, this casserole is absolutely amazing! Maybe you should give me cooking lessons in exchange from now on." Ebony chuckled before taking another bite.

Rivener snorted softly, wondering if he indeed would be friends with Ebony's Raevan. The thing that made up that future Raevan's soul had almost eaten Aphismet! And while Rivener knew that the Raevans were not just the sum of their parts, he wasn't so sure he could see past that one little fact. "Mnh," the Scorpion mumbled in non-committal, although he had been rather flattered at Ebony's praise of being a good choice for a friend.

Rivener took a bite of the casserole and made a face almost immediately, putting the plate down. It was too garlicky, too cheesy. Ew. Riv hated those tastes, the ones that assaulted the roof of his mouth near the back. "I'll be right back," the Sigel said, floating back inside to retrieve his mug of now-lukewarm coffee from the kitchen bar.

Aphismet raised an eyebrow at his quickly retreating Raevan, but let him go as long as Ebony wouldn't object. Surely the Sigel wasn't going to go rob the Brit. Instead, Aphi turned his attention back to the conversation at hand. "I'd like to start again, yeah. It's a very good way to keep in shape, and it settles my mind to know I could defend myself if needed. Otherwise I'd be a little more nervous about being out so late when work is done." Aphi chuckled, figuring there wasn't much threat in the parking lot of a five-star hotel anyway. "And I'd be more than happy to give you cooking lessons in exchange. I had been paying you with food before, after all: this is only the logical next step. I'm glad you're enjoying the casserole! ...unlike Rivener, apparently."

The Scorpion had returned, downing big gulps of the rich, chocolatey coffee to drown out the taste of the chicken-broccoli monstrosity. Aphismet chuckled. "You don't have to like everything, Riv," he said encouragingly, "but I'm very grateful that you're willing to TRY everything."

"Yeah, well... Don't make me eat more garlic-cheese stuff ever again."

Silver orbs stared off after the Scorpion as he quickly fled the patio, floating back inside. Though she was curious as to what he was up to, the woman didn't protest. After all, no matter how menacing Rivener looked, he really wasn't the type to steal things. And Ebony would know!

Between bites, "Smashing, then I shall pencil you back in. For the same day and times I assume?" She was eager to have a sparing partner again and also to be learning something entirely new, but just as Aphismet had silently predicted to himself, the purple haired female worried about his brother. Though with the youth out and about more often now, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad?

Ebony laughed at the banter between the two. They seemed so close and on some level she was wondering and perhaps praying that her and her Raevan would be as such someday. "Oh! I almost forgot! I ran into another guardian and her ward not that long ago. I believe you all are friends with them as well. Natsuki and Sa'ida?"

Aphismet had simply nodded at the mention of the tutoring dates, rather used to the old schedules and seeing no need to change it. There was normally enough time after training for Aphi to prepare his "payment" to the Brit, so that would now simply change to "showing Ebony how to cook" instead of only "cooking for Ebony". It would be interesting, to try and teach someone. As long as the student was eager to learn, then it would be fine, the chef figured. He also realized that they'd be switching up the tutor-student dynamics a little, more of a give-and-take kind of business deal. Aphi liked the idea.

The chef's wandering mind came back to the present at the mention of Natsuki and Sa'ida. "Ah, you met them? They'd be hard to miss if you went to the streets near Gambino beach itself; that shop of hers is famous, from what I gather. And Sa'ida, well... She certainly can't be missed." Aphi grinned, thinking of the bright explosion of color that was the genie Frei.

Rivener sat down with his coffee and smiled at the mention of Sai. "I like her," he declared confidently. "I didn't think I would, but there's something... Hrm, there's something wonderfully familiar about her, even if she's so different." Wracking his brain, Riv tried to think of what the stars might have said about her...

"How'd you meet up with them? A friendly meeting, I imagine?" Aphi smiled, finishing his small helping of pasta and putting the plate aside.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 28, 2009 6:32 pm

"Indeed. Natsuki holds such an air of confidence and strength all while not being...how do I put this...stand-offish like myself I suppose?" Ebony wasn't sure if that was the right way to put it necessarily, but it was the best she could explain to the chef. "And yes, Sa'ida is very, VERY hard to miss. Yet a sweet girl none the less. I enjoyed their company very much. I'll have to see about going to her shop sometime since I haven't been yet."

After finishing her plate, the Brit daintily (if that is even possible to see from her!) placed the fork down and pushed it a little out of the way so she could fold her arms on the table and listen better to her guests. "Oh, it was more of research really." She gave a thoughful, yet amused smile at the memory towards the red head and her colorful Frei. "We met at the new botanical garden that opened up here in Gambino. Trying to get ideas for our gardens and such. I really ought to give them a ring, it's been a while."

Rivener couldn't care less about gardens, but the mention of Sai and flowers did remind him of the time at the Planetarium where he'd met the Frei. That cyclone of butterflies... it had been very pretty. Riv smiled at the thought, looking out at nothing in particular, lost in his pondering.

Aphismet raised his eyebrows at the description of Natsuki; yeah, that was pretty much dead on. But Ebony being stand-offish? Aphi laughed at that, waving the purple-haired woman's words off. She was as approachable as anyone else Aphismet had met. At least it seemed so to him...

"A garden? Is that what the greenhouse is for?" Aphi pointed to the structure a ways off, smiling. "If you need a green thumb, you should definitely call Isi and Eiry. With Eiry's plant-death-eating feeding habits, your garden will be full and vibrant no matter if there's a drought or anything! And ah, had you made a decision about that garden, after all?"

"...Do you already have any flowers?" Riv asked, his curiosity suddenly piqued, recalling a certain someone who'd once said he'd enjoy getting such gifts. Maybe Riv could get Ebony to give him a bloom or two, and Rivener would then have a wonderful excuse to visit Zul!

She peered over towards the small, glass building that held tranquility and reflection for her when the beach was not feasibly available for such. Ebony nodded to Aphismet, though she wasn't necessarily agreeing to the whole Isi thing. Perhaps she would give it some thought though. "Gardening is one of those few things that helps me to relax and focus whatever pent up energy I have towards something constructive." The woman gave an embarrassed blush when she added, "It's also a means to um...cure me of my phobias against dirt and bugs..."

Recovering quickly, "No I haven't really made a real decision in the direction I wanted to put the garden towards yet. But I think it'll be more flower based this year. In fact, when you came to the door earlier I thought it was the postman with some of the plants I ordered." The British woman looked to Rivener thoughtfully. She really hadn't pegged him the flower type in all honesty. But she supposed like humans, Raevans couldn't be easily judged by their appearances either.

"I have a few yes. Like I said, I'm still waiting for some, but I have some azaleas, hydrangeas, lilacs, gardenias...oh and some fire flowers as well. Just to name a few." She listed off, counting them on her fingers as she went. Taking a stand, "If you're done eating, I'd be happy to just show you, Rivener."

Aphismet chuckled, the sound developing into a laugh at the purple-haired host's admission of phobias. Bugs and Dirt, really? Aphi found that hard to believe but he shrugged it off, thinking rather along the same lines as the woman was at the moment: You couldn't judge people on appearances. As tough as Ebony was, she disliked something as small as bugs and dirt.

"It sounds like a very nice way to relax, yeah. I remember last year yo brought me some vegetables; that was from your garden too, then, yes? Only this year it'll be flowers, how nice! I leave all our gardening to Isi, our yard is so lush now. And the garden on the side is vibrant, too... But Eiry cheats. To relax, personally, I paint." Aphi smiled, figuring it was roughly the same thing: a way to keep their hands busy and their minds off other matters.

At the offer to visit the flowers, Rivener brightened, sitting up in his chair and nodding. "Yeah, I'm done. Would it be okay if I took a flower or two, Ebony? A gift for a-... a friend." The Scorpion still wasn't quite sure what the proper term was for his relationship (or lack of) with Zul. "Lover" or "boyfriend" was too much, but "friend" fell short. It was frustrating that there was nothing in between, no easy word for it.

Aphismet could almost guess who the flower would be for, but he wondered where Rivener got the idea that Zul would even like that kind of thing. "I assume it's okay for me to visit too?" the chef asked as he got to his feet, ready to follow Ebony and Rivener to the greenhouse.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 28, 2009 8:29 pm

"It helps, but sometimes it can be just as frustrating depending on what you're trying to grow. Like vegetables..." She replied while unlocking the door to her greenhouse. It probably looked odd for her to lock it, but you could never be too careful, especially since she put so much time and effort into the place! "Painting...now that's something! You'll have to show me your work at some point. As I'm a true patron of the arts."

She pushed the doors open wide, allowing the pent up heat some room to breathe as it graciously escaped out, unintentionally assaulting the group in the process. Just as she had said, the inside was mostly bare except for a batch of flowers off to the far side of the house. Their scents although not as potent as a whole field still gave off a delightful mix of perfume. There where also a few potted vines with tiny spiked, flat heads standing residence in the greenhouse as well. Yet, they weren't very big and not so impressive as some of the flowers already were.

Ebony laughed at the white haired man's question, "Of course you are Aphi!" As soon as the words left her mouth, there was a certain tension in the female's stance. She'd gotten far too comfortable with the two then, the invoking of the chef's nickname was evidence to that. As it was too late to take it back, the woman merely walked inside and pretended like nothing had happened. If something was brought up, she could simply deny it. "You may take some if you want Rivener. Maybe some of the fire flowers as more of them have bloomed fully. They really like the warmth of Gambino and have taken nicely to growing faster because of it I've noticed."

Rivener was right on Ebony's heels as she opened the doors to the greenhouse, the Scorpion scrunching up his nose in a pleased wince. How he enjoyed warm air! And this air smelled a lot like flowers, although not cloying yet. When the place would be filled with blooms, THEN it might be a bit too much. For now, Riv found it all to be rather nice.

The Sigel floated inside, hunching his shoulders up in contentment for a moment. It was warm, almost stiflingly so in here, and it was so very familiar. Reminded him of home. He supposed it had something to do with his previous life as a Scorpion; Aphi had never hidden that from him, and Riv had even seen the terrarrium his Soul had once resided in. With its glass walls and the heat from a small overhead bulb, Rivener figured it probably felt a lot like this greenhouse. It was so nice... maybe Rivener should try to talk Aphi into getting one of these.

The fire flowers, which Ebony suggested would be the best choice to take at the moment, had quickly caught Riv's eye. They were red and orange and beautiful! Surely Zul would like those! They weren't as RED as Rivener, which was most likely what Zul wanted... But they were fiery and they would do. Grinning, Rivener extended his hand and picked a large, colorful bloom, snipping the stem with his claws. "This one!" he said, turning around. "It's great! Thanks, Ebony." Satisfied, Riv slowly floated back towards the humans, reluctant to leave this comfortable place.

Aphismet hadn't noticed the slip-up of his nickname. He had never really noticed Ebony DIDN'T use it normally, even. He simply followed into the greenhouse, enjoying the scent of the flowers. "I do so love the smell of lilacs. It's so calming! And when you come over next, Ebony, I can show you a few paintings, yeah. I'm no professional, but they're alright, I think." The chef smiled. "It's mostly just paintings of my back yard or wherever else I was. A few of the park, and such... But you're a patron, now are you? I did spot quite a few works in your home."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 29, 2009 11:54 am

"No problem. You can take some others too if you want, though they're not as impressive as the fire flowers yet. Nonetheless, I hope your friend likes them." She had a feeling that it was for someone special otherwise Rivener would never have asked, and although curiosity was gnawing at her, Ebony didn't press for more information. It was none of her business after all and would not garner anything for knowing.

Since they were there, Ebony figured now would be a good time to tend to the plants a little. While raising a plastic watering can and carefully dousing the flowers one by one, "Well I love purple if you haven't noticed, so the garden demanded something in that color. But yes, I like my art as well. Have you done portraits of people? What's your favorite medium?" The Brit suddenly felt compelled to know more about her student. She really didn't know much at all even though they'd known one another for months now. For whatever reasons, Ebony found it hard to get particularly close to others. Maybe all she needed was a more comfortable setting? Even if that were so, she still was aware of maintaining a certain buffer zone as there were things she didn't need them to find out about her life.

Rivener shrugged at the offer to take more flowers. "Nah, just this one will do." He didn't want to bring Zul a whole bouquet... Just one flower for now. Smiling, glad to see that they weren't leaving the nice greenhouse yet, Rivener settled on floating to a side counter and "sitting" on it, his ribbon trailing down the side in slow, languid circles. Ahhh, this place was as relaxing at the hot beach sands in the summer.

Aphismet would have liked to help when he saw Ebony move to tend her flowers, but he had no idea what to do. The chef had to make do with staying out of her way, leaning on the same counter Rivener sat on.

"Hahah, it would have been weird not to see a purple flower in here, true. You really do like that color a lot, hm? It's supposed to be a calming, serene color, so I suppose you could have chosen worse. As for me, I don't normally do people portraits, no. They'd probably turn out atrocious." Aphi chuckled sheepishly, running a hand through his hair. "I can get by with painting trees and grass and rocks and all that kind of stuff, but people... well, that's a whole other ballgame, one I'm not really qualified to play. Sorry." He wasn't sure why he felt like he should apologize. Perhaps Ebony would have liked him to paint her portrait or something, and now he had announced that he couldn't. Yes, that must be it.

"My favorite medium is oils. I use Acrylics a lot too, but oils are more... I dunno, more versatile, maybe? Rivener paints too, you know. He's rather good at it, as well as being a pretty gifted photographer." Aphi puffed up with near-fatherly pride for an instant, glancing at the Scorpion who wasn't paying much attention at all anymore, too busy smiling at the flower and probably thinking of how he was going to talk Aphi into dropping by Alex's place.
