If there's a remake of FF7, but they change it to be SERIOUS like AC, will you be pleased?
  Of course.
  I'm not sure.
  NO.

I haven't posted here in ages but this perked my attention and i felt the need to add my share.

If they did remake FFVII I would hope all they did was fix the glitches and re implamented the omited subquests (the ones japan got but europe&US didn't), update the Graphics and maby added voices (thoe the wrong voice for a charictor would ruin it so no voice wouldn't be that bad) if they changed the games story and charictors to be more like AC and it's spinoffs I would lose a litte faith in humanity and Sqaure enix would lose alot of my respect (in fact since "square soft" became "Square Enix" I've thought theyve gon a bit down hill)

Any way way back when I first heard there were talks of a remake (around the time the PS2 came out) I would have been satisfide with them changeing the graphics to be simaler to the Fight or Cutscene graphics which were actualy qute increadable for the time it was releast, and still think the game would look grate if they did it that way today.

I do relise that im echoing allot of whats already been said, so hopefully Square Enix will see it this way too.....

Yes, a remake is a tricky issue. After the PS2 came out, I did long to see FF7 on it in all it's glory. But the games industry has changed and seems to take it that gamers now have less patience and have resolved to give them everything in a more dense high impact form of story telling. I think it's a real shame as FF7 and the earlier games have a charm and character missing in the later ones. I didn't get on with FF12 at all. I didn't even finish it to be honest. It just didn't seem to have the engaging plot of other FF games.

I would love to see a remake if they stay true to the original. A graphics update and the reinstation of the lost ending would be all I'd need to make me happy. Perhaps also a few new games in the gold saucer and few new sub quests maybe. Too much more I think would ruin it.

Reinstation of what lost ending?

And someone mentioned Japanese-exclusive sidequests? What sidequests? User Image

Yes...I would add something here, but, there's nothing left to say that hasn't already been said. I doubt they're actually going to make a remake--it's been a long time-- unless they get so strapped for cash they turn to their biggest money maker--the FFVII series.
I like the sequels, but I agree that it's changed the original storyline...
A lot.
The original game made me giggle, and dammit, I
love to giggle a lot more than I like to watch people mope.

I agree. In the original game, everyone talked alot. But in advent children, its almost weird to here someone say something. If they remake it,ONLY remake it.Dont add or remove stuff to put crap in that would probably mess up the whole series. Some character hints wouldn't be that bad either(i always wanted to know whatever happened to Cissnei, since she last appeared in the end of crisis core and thats all for her). They CANT take out the gender-switching part since thats the part we ALL remember from the game xD.

I'd love to see a remake that could strike a balance between the original game and the Compilation. I mean, I love the original game- Wall Market, the Gold Saucer, chocobo racing, the goofiness and personality everyone exhibited- but at the same time, there are parts of the Compilation I liked. Parts. Before Crisis, for example, had some really fascinating bits in it, and Crisis Core gave us Cissnei and Angeal (and Gackt- er, Genesis, but I could have done without him). Sort of like adhering to the original storyline and adding bits in to expand.

I'm not really touching AC or DoC in this since they're post-OGC. The only thing Dirge did that could be confirmed in a remake is that Hojo's a real sadist and Lucrecia's a weepy coward. neutral Which we already kinda knew. (Oh, and the Protomateria, but then that negates the level 4 Limit Break quest for Vincent, doesn't it? Hmm.)

... the logistics behind a remake would be insane. But seeing a non-emo Cloud and getting all the other wonderful characters the exposure they deserve would make it worthwhile. (And if they wanted to make Reeve a playable character in the game, I wouldn't complain. Nope. Not one bit.)

Pretty much what I was thinking. ...Well, maybe minus the Reeve part. Maybe.

But if remove the parts that made me laugh or smile, well, I'm not sure if I'd want it. Now, most people see Cloud as the depressed hero... Seems a bit different from how I saw him in the original. What sad mopey person says "Let's mosey"? Or plays Mog House and the other little mini games? And we can't forget the special Gold Saucer scenes, could we? Those always make me laugh, especially the play.
I pretty much agree with a lot that's been said already... Huh.

Well the entire game isn't going to be all mopey. It can't be, until almost the end of Disc 1. xp

Play as Reeve? That would involve changing the storyline. Reasons are given as to why he is where he is and not in your party.

I wouldn't mind changes, as long as they were improvements. Personally, I would be interested to see if they would alter the game so that you were required to get Yuffie and Vincent. User Image

... you people do realize that was a joke, right? I'm fully aware of why he couldn't be a playable character in the traditional sense. =P

I think a remake would be really refreshing and would make Square Enix a ton upon ton of money...

It would also cost them a lot of money too because they would have to make sure it's up to perfection before releasing it, and would have to spend a lot of money into remaking everything.

They should totally make all the characters with voice over, make them look realistic like in FF:AC. I think they should add extra stuff in there too like a music, FMV, bestiary list, etc. One of the features I would love for them to work on the most is improving the Gold Saucer area. They can add in a lot more mini games and make it really advanced.

Perhaps another cool feature would be to make separate mini storylines for each of the other characters to play around with. There's so many new extra things they can add with a remade version, and I bet SE would make a killing with this.

Then you'll get the haters who stick with the original and do not want anything else but the original only. So you can't please everyone, but it'll certainly draw in a new crowd of people for the newer generation, perhaps they should have it completed and released by 2013, that way anyone born at the year 2000 and over can experience this game in a more advanced stage and be old enough to understand it also.

I would definitely place my money into buying a remade version and play through it. I completely mastered FF7 a long while back, so I wouldn't mind doing it once again. One can dream though...

I have not seen much for the new one of late because I am in college but if they are going to butcher the classic then I might have to resign as a FFF and that will make me sad because I looked for ever to find FF7 for the PS1 and as soon as I heard tat they were making a new one I was like Woooooooooow but now I am like Woo............ I am not sure I love FF expecually FF7..

OH my now I am rambaling and that is never a good thing. I shale stop before I find the limits to this system.

The best thing I liked about FF7 was the bigging but the whole game was a nice and wonderful relief from the other games that were out there at that time.

i just started playing the game through again and its amazing the way it is. it just needs better graphics is all. if they do a remake they seriously need to stick to the game as it was and not get rid of anything.

I think the remake of the original FF7 will be a good thing. It would give younger generations a chance to experience a great game. Granted, ever since Squaresoft merged with Enix Co. to create SquareEnix, the games and storylines have gone downhill drastically. I've been playing FF12 and I continually find myself going back to FF3 (On the SNES) and FF7 & FF8 (For the PC). Even FF10 doesn't spark my interest like those other games.

All I have to say is if SquareEnix's remake of FF7 is as crappy as we all are thinking it will be, I'm starting a giant riot outside the main building in Japan until they make a remake that is the way we want it to be: better graphics, more mini-games, add voices, and keeping the characters and storyline the same.

It is my belief that a great game shouldn't be ruined in a remake because it has had prequels and sequels added to the storyline.
