[I WENT TO THE MIDNIGHT PREMIERE <3]

Overall, I thought the movie was amazing. Other then a few things that bothered me [BURROW SCENE?!], but I think it was worth the wait!

AND i went to see it again today, haha.

I went to the midnight showing (all deced out in my Slytherin best) and left the theatre twenty dollars poorer and in a bad mood. The books are so rich in detail that there really is no need to MAKE THINGS UP. It's ridiculous. There was no sense of Harry's fixation on Malfoy and less than half of the memories from the pensieve were shown. Overall, not my favorite. I'll take Chamber of Secrets over this any day.

Well, I was ticked off by two things. One: The funeral didn't "fit the theme" so it's in the beginning of the 7th movie. Second: Harry didn't see the tiara in the Room of Requirement.

Overall, I thought it was one of the better movies. They changed enough to make it a good movie (by itself I mean, not when compared to the books), but still left the basic structure of the story there (which they haven't really done with some of them, in my opinion).

I was not too fond of the burrow scene. there was nothing like it in the book, and I don't see how it helped the rest of the movie storyline. I was actually glad that they cut Dumbledore's funeral for the simple reason that I'm a bit of a weeper in movies and that's the bit that would have gotten me. I was a little disappointed that the battle at Hogwarts didn't happen, but at least a few death eaters still came and Dumbledore was still killed by Snape when Draco couldn't. The thing with Slughorn and Harry is still there (Harry trying to get the memory, the kind of fake friendship), and there is a little bit of Harry's obsession with Draco shown.
As I said, overall I thought is was a pretty good movie, and definitely one of the better HP ones.

[[Note: Uh oh, the funeral is in the 7th movie apparently. Maybe I'll have to wait until that one comes out on DVD... xd ]]

When I go to these movies I just usually expect to have things changed a bit or something left out. Its always gonna happen. It was a good movie by itself, just not a good interpretation of the book.

I totally get what someone said about the books being so full of detail. It really throws it off when they leave out loads of things from the books but add stuff. I really hope all those movie lovers read the books...they're missing so much

Personally, I thought HBP was the best yet out of the movies. Yes, of course it didn't follow the book exactly, but no movie does that. The only things I was partially disappointed in was no funeral scene, Harry not seeing the tiara, the burrow scene, and...okay, how did Arthur Weasley know about the vanishing cabinet? I did not like that. Otherwise, I thought it was quiet good. God, I loved Draco and Severus...

A disappointment for me, really. I get that they have to change some things for the movie but the difference this is time is ridiculous! Remember, PS and CoS was essentially by-the-book movie changing some spells and scenes here and there.

They focused more, this time, on the blooming relationships aspect of the book rather than the main plot which is understanding Voldemort's history. The relationships was supposed to be just a subplot Rowling added for more detail because she understands that they're adolescents now and hormones are overflowing. And of all the things they changed from the book they kept the scene where Snape revealed himself as the Half-Blood Prince basically saying "Yes, I'm the Half-blood Prince, kthxbai" to Harry. They could've made it more dynamic.

I think they had a lot of the things changed is because they were aiming for a wider audience than just the book-y fans. Thus, making the plot easier to understand. That's why I'd always prefer the books rather than movies.

The funeral scene was supposed to be a burning bridges moment for the trio with Harry realizing that it's too dangerous for the others to come with him but Ron and Hermione being adamant about coming along anyways. That's also the scene where he's supposed to break up with Ginny, amicably of course. With the funeral scene absent the last resolution in the astronomy tower felt out of place for me that the intensity of the moment should be.

I was also bummed they didn't feel the need to do the battle scene at the end. At least, Neville could have a one liner in the movie.

BTW, did anyone see Cho Chang in the movie? I didn't see her at all and she was credited at the end.

I was mad that they didn't have the funeral seen and that was pretty much all i was mad about exept that they burned down the burrow, what was the POINT that made no sense. It was not one of the best HP movies everything was thrown together to quickly.I just want to see the next to movies(and hope that there better).

PS. Cho Chang was in the quidditch game seen.

I have to watch out for her when the DVD comes out then.

Yeah the Burrow scene was the one that bugged me a lot. It was not in the book AND it did nothing to help the story/plot of the movie.

I also don't get why they don't say the incantation anymore. I know that some are nonverbal but most of the magic stuff in it they used no incantation especially the bathroom scene and the Burrow scene. Draco was about to cast the Cruciatus curse and that's what made Harry cast the Sectumsempra.

I saw the movie the weekend it came out. It was ok, but there was A LOT of disappointment:

1) The first and foremost disappointment for me- They left out Bill, completely! How are they going to explain where Harry and the others stay? And where Dobby gets buried? Come on, really? No Bill? At all? I have to miss out on that smexyness so completely?

2) The burrow scene. What was the point in that? You don't have time for Bill but you have time to show Greyback in the field with no shirt on (yuck) without ever introducing him? At all in the whole movie? But I guess they justified that with the wanted poster with him on it that flashed by in 1 scene.

3) Dumbledore's funeral, the BIGGEST disappointment. And when he died, what was with the wands? It looked like a concert encore scene. Yay! More dead Dumbledores! Bring it on!

Other than that it was ok. I liked it slightly better than OOTP, but geez. I hope they do sooo much better with the 7th.

Hmm. I'm neutral at this point.

Pros:

I actually didn't mind the Burrow scene too much - it may well have been necessary for the pacing. Remember, we started the movie off with mass destruction and chaos - bridges collapsing, Ollivander carted off, general terror...And then it slows down a bit to more of an 'exposition' type of story. The book could manage that by keeping the language intense, fitting the wording so that even this information-gathering seemed tighter in flow than it might have. Translating something like that to a medium such as film, however...well. It'd be a bit difficult. As such, they needed something a little more serious in the middle - something sharp, something to show that there is still fighting, people are still out to destroy one another, and something that hits, literally, close to home for Harry.
Besides, hearing Bellatrix singing, "I killed Sirius Black, I killed Sirius Black!" as she runs off in that crazy, half-blind chase scene really drives her character further into realization.

Some gorgeous cinematography and lighting work. It was so interesting, seeing how they patched scenes together, worked transitions, moved the cameras about...I particularly liked the contrast of that sweeping view that ran from Lavender and Ron snogging in the warm, woody scenery of the Gryffindor staircase to Draco standing alone in the cold, snow-white and metal-black of the Astronomy tower.
Just wow.
And they worked the lighting and other camera movements in such a way that good chunks of the movie seemed dreamlike. It's like you're floating there, watching as the world takes its deep, final breaths before plunging into chaos...
Like a dream just before it becomes a nightmare.
You could feel these emotions just by the color of the lights, the intensity of the shadows, and the motions of your viewpoint.

Horace Slughorn changing from armchair to man. The sound effects made me snicker. Sproing!

The birds. I can't help but see subtle symbolism in them. The white one goes first - and the trip kills it. The black one goes next - and it survives to fly free into Hogwarts.

Development of Draco's character. I think they did well - he really seemed torn here. Despite his loud, cocky attitude, you could tell that in truth, he didn't want to hurt anyone.

The scene where they all lift their wands and light them for Dumbledore after his death made me cry. It was beautiful...all those soft lights glowing and, together, burning away the Dark Mark.

The Inferi...decidedly creepy, though they looked A LOT like gollum! The best part of that scene, though, was the fire under water.
That, and Dumbledore flailing that fire spell around. It. looked. Awesome.

Cons:

Mostly little things, but still important bits, both in plot and in character.

For example, there was no explanation for Snape's chosen moniker. Just, "I am the Half-Blood Prince" and walk away. I wish there had been a way for them to fit the why of his name in there...in a way, it both showed a willingness to accept his heritage and a preference for his mother's kind - the world of magic.
Plus I am now afraid that movie fans everywhere are under the impression that Severus Snape is actually royalty of some sort.

I will agree that there was entirely too much emphasis on teenage relations instead of on the search through Voldemort's past. They never even touched on the fact that Voldemort was highly interested in the founders, nor did they mention the circumstances of his birth, family, or his first actual murders. Instead, we get random people snogging in the halls.

NO DIADEM!!! Seriously, how hard can it be? They're in the Room of Requirement, Harry's wandering around curiously, examining various objects, one of which happens to be a pretty headpiece of some sort or other...But nooooo...
I can't help but feel that the producers/directors/screenwriters just made things a bit harder on themselves by omitting that detail. Just HOW is Harry going to locate this diadem in the last movie, now?

Ginny and Harry's first kiss. I mean, I guess it worked, but I still was wanting to see Ron's face after that one...the expression was great in the book. I wondered what it might look like on screen.

No incantations? They were supposed to start learning that this year in DADA, though...
No apperation lessons? Harry, Ron, and Hermione are going to have an interesting time travelling...that, or the movie makers are going to have to make up a reason as to why those three can suddenly apperate. Plus, I kind of miss Harry apperating Dumbledore back...that little detail, to me, sort of showed that Harry is now the one who will lead others.

I think I've posted enough here. It's practically an essay to read anyhow...sorry about that! I may have gotten carried away.
