Well...>.> I have 220 measures of music to memorize by the first football game ^o^ And it's not the easy 'Quater quater rest' either... D; And I think I'm going to be one of the only bass clarinets marching this year.... Idk though if Dezy does (though I don't believe she will) then I won't be alone... Summer band starts tommorow ^o^ Hip hip HURAY!!! Lol I missed band crying It gave me something to do and I love playing my bass clarinet... D; Even if it wasn't working from day one... I bought a new horn from Tatum (well I got it for Christmas...^.^ That should tell you just about how much a band nerd I am 'All I won't for Christmas is a Bass Clarinet' ) lol anywayz as I said it wasn't working from day one... I'm going to post a forum on it so other Bass clarinets players know of it... Anyway That's all lol D:

I was at band camp last week and I remembered 5 songs we play. We still have a couple of songs to get but it's easy to memorize if you study hard wink

Show music generally takes 2-3 days (maybe) for me to learn and memorize once we play it in a full band rehearsal, but for some reason, I can't seem to do stand tunes other than the four we play every year.
As for tips for memorizing, I can suggest three things:
First, see if you can get a copy to listen to and eventually play along with. Hopefully your director won't change it too much, unlike ours who completely replaced one of the movements.
Second, whenever you play it with the band, listen to the other parts to see how yours fits. It's not always possible to hear your part on a recording.
Last, take it in phrases or from drill set to drill set. Then put it together.

Knowing the way I am, I do not actively memorize music. I have a very good memory and once we go over it in rehearsal enough I've memorized it all on my own. (To give you an idea on my memory, I can go over a list of 100 vocabulary words a few times and have it memorized within an hour or two.) It also helps to hear other parts and where I fit in with the music.
So, tips? PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS! smile
