Malaika sighed softly, it was apparent that the male in front of her had experienced heartbreak as well. She had little symphony for males, but she did not want to appear rude. Of course, by asking what was wrong she could be considered rude. Instead of asking for details, she mearly told him a piece of advice she believed in. "Everything happens for a reason."

Everything happens for a reason. The thought filled Drizzt with anguish. What then had been the reason for his mate's disappearance? Was it something he had done? And on the slim chance that it wasn't, was the reason that he was just not meant to be happy with someone? Had he done something unspeakable when he was younger, to have such a plague thrust on him? Maybe he had accidentally killed a cricket when he was stalking them and hadn't known it. But at least he didn't LIKE to do wrong, like some others. Looking back up at Malaika, Drizzt's face showed his desparation to understand. "Though sometimes I wish that the reasoning was always clear. That way, when something does happen, you'll know why it did, and strive not to do anything to bring it about again. But I guess that would make it too easy." He sighed and leaned his body against the tree. "Love is so hard."

Malaika continued to look at the male with mock-sympathy, and she shrugged. "If love was not hard, then we would all be blessed with it quite easily. And if it was easy, then the joys said to be brought from it would diminish and it would be just another simple emotion."

Not noticing any hint of mockery or insincerity in Malaika's statement, Drizzt plunged on. "But what good is the joy it brings if it all goes away and ends with you feeling worse off than if you never had it to start with? I thought love was going to be wonderful, and it was, for a while. But then it just.....stopped."

(sorry for my lack of time/muse and crappy replies)
Malaika nodded lightly and looked to the ground. "There is a saying that humans use; it is apparently was written by, what they call, the world's most famous playwrite. 'Better to have loved and failed, than never to have loved at all.' But when one's love fails them, the pain is often greater than any one person could describe."

(No worries. ^^)
Drizzt made a psh sound and looked down at the ground, giving the sudden tears in his eyes the quickest path to the ground. "I wonder of they even knew about love when they wrote that. He must never have seen innocent little ones, knowing all sorts of joys before they grow up filled with emotions that they don't know what to do with. I can still remember when I was that way; all I cared about was chasing crickets. Now, I would love to have that simple life back again, but then it wouldn't be fair to the children....." He swallowed another painful lump and raised his tear-streaked face. "She left her sons too.....why, why did she leave?"

Malaika looked ahead, away from the male who she could tell from the slight quiver in his voice was crying. She stretched her wings ever so slightly as she listened, almost curiously, to his words that drew her in like a vine. She closed her eyes for a moment, then opened them. "I cannot say I know why she left, or what were her reasons for doing so. 'Everything happens for a reason', another of the humans quotes. Perhaps, one day, your heart will be able to move on, and you will be able to find someone new, someone who cares not only for you, but for your sons as well. Perhaps..."

Reaching up to wipe the lingering tears away with his paw, Drizzt looked up at Malaika with slightly blurred vision. "You really think so? But.....I just don't know if......what if I find another person and it happens again? Or even....what if she does come back? Sometimes, even after I've convinced myself that it's hopeless, I still find myself looking out there for a glimpse of her, maybe with my other son and daughter trotting behind. But perhaps......I have waited too long. After all, if she ever had loved me, she would want me to be happy even when she isn't there. And if she didn't love me after all......well, all the more reason to move on, as you say." He looked at Malaika with an amount of wonder. "You seem so wise about all of this, and though I won't ask how you came by your knowledge, I thank you for sharing it, Malaika."

Malaika wished that she, too, could move on, follow her own hypocritical advice. She had not found a reason to, though, and her heart lingered in the past, along with Daimon and Orion. She had not completley realised it at the time, but she had loved both of them tremendously, and when they were gone, never to come back, she had closed that part of her emotions away from everyone, thinking that her heart should never be warmed once more by another namir. She had too spend countless sleepless nights looking up to the sky and wondering what she had done to send them away, how she could bring them back. Failure it was, time and time again, and from this Malaika, once thought to be a reincarnation of cupid himself, was not to weild her bow and arrow again.
"It was a pleasure to help you."

"Tell me," Drizzt asked with a small measure of eagerness, "Is there anything I can do for you in return for helping me out and listening to me?" Now that he was feeling a little better, and before the small good feeling went away again, he wanted to help his new friend out. He said he wasn't going to ask how she seemed to know so much about broken hearts and relationships, but he could imagine. Perhaps he was seeing things, but it seemed as though Malaika had just a slight slump in her shoulders, a distant look with pained eyes. She might very well be feeling the exact same thing he was, but if she was, she sure was talking it better than he had been. That made him respect her all the more.

Malaika shook her head, sending all the memories into her subconcious once more. "No, it was my pleasure to help you. Seeing you having been uplifted even for only this moment is reward enough."

A little saddened that his new friend seemed to just shrug off the sadness in her eyes without a second thought, Drizzt just nodded and smiled a little at Malaika. "Thank you; that's a very nice thing to say, considering we've only been friends for a little bit. And.....I know I may have acted like a wreck before, but I can listen too, and if you ever need someone to listen to you, I'll be happy to do it."

Malaika smiled softly, though a bit coldly, at his words. "That is very kind of you, I shall remember that if there is a time I need to speak about something within myself."

Smiling back and not noticing the touch of cold on Malaika's smile, Drizzt nodded eagerly. "I'm glad; I hope in time I can be helpful to you." He turned and looked back out at the sun, already seeming less dreary and depressing than it had several minutes ago.

Malaika let her wings rest down as she followed his gaze to the sun. "Already it sets? It is surely coming sooner by the day, though what else is to be expected after the spring equinox?" She yawned lightly.
