The Long Ride Home The ride was the most difficult part. Donat stared out the car window, belongings neatly packed in the back two seats, as he sat. Landscape passed by quickly, coming to a part of Gaia he hadn't really been before. Barton crept up slowly, farmland turning to suburbs first. It wasn't that he was scared or anything. Just interesting to watch. Kanna, sadly, was far more nervous than he was. Oh the dread of having to take in another kid into the household. And how would the other lady of the house act? As far as she knew, Mei hadn't had any siblings, and had been a bit...err...spoiled. Precious gift indeed! "You hungry?" She asked, glancing over at the goat boy as they pulled over to another gas station. "This place had some good food when I stopped here earlier..." The woman trailed off, a bit sheepish. "Do they have salads and vegetarian stuff?" Donat perked up a bit with a grin, still as fearless as ever as he glanced over to Kanna, gaining a nod. He unbuckled the seat belt, after a bit of fumbling, and got out of the cramped vehicle with a grin. "C'mon!" She was rather amused at how fearless the boy was. Kumoru hadn't been kidding when he said there wouldn't be any struggle to get him 'out of the mope'. But still, she was sure he was homesick. All kids usually got some form of it. Even Meirou, after living nearly a year in Gaia (though it had been 'longer' away from home from other circumstances) finally had caught it. "Alright, just a second, Donat." Kanna laughed to herself, entering the store after him. "It's a good chance for a bathroom break too. This is, for lack of terms, the mid-point between here and your new home." She struggled a bit with the 'classic' term, still trying to be a little sensitive to the boy's feelings, though it didn't seem to hurt them."Awesome." He grinned, looking around the gas-station, eying the refrigerators along the wall. Donat approached them thoughtfully, looking over his choices through glass. Sandwiches, salads....And a few drinks. Nothing much to think about. Spying a vegetarian sub, he soon grabbed it. "Got it." He pranced back to Kanna's side, grinning. "What about for Amara?" One of his ears flicked absently, watching his new guardian's face turn confused. "My dragon? In the back of the car?" Kanna blinked, reminded of the poor creature stuck with the plethora of boxes. "That would be a good idea. You know what she eats?" She asked, taking the sandwich for him. "Yeah. Be right back." Donat smiled, going back to the fridges. Copper dragons liked meat, which was easy to buy in any case. Grabbing a package of sandwich sliced beef, he also grabbed a water. Food in hand, Donat returned to Kanna's side in line. After paying for everything, the two returned to the car, Kanna handing Donat his food, while she took care of Amara's. "Hey, sweetie. Got you some food, you wanna get out to walk?" She offered, turning to smile at the creature. The dragon perked up at 'walk', which evidently meant OUT OF THE CAR. She grinned as best a dragon could, nodding her head vigorously as the lady stood from her spot on the seat. Donat unwrapped his food, smiling as he saw Amara's eagerness. "Sorry 'Mara for all this..." He laughed, watching the dragon bolt out as soon as Kanna moved the boxes so she could. Amara zipped around in the grassy area to the left of the station, enjoying the feeling of movement. Of course, as soon as the lady began to open the meat package, her attention went there. Oh it's food time! Kanna laughed at the eagerness, holding out a few slices in a flat palm. "She'll need her own plate or bowl when we get home. But I'm pretty used to animals. Had a huge Great Dane when I was little." She explained with a grin. Donat nodded, enjoying the breeze as he ate. "Is there...Anyone else who I'll be living with?" He asked, having forgotten to ask. Amara happily ate, taking care not to bite the hand that fed her, literally. After finishing what remained of the package, she gave a happy chirp, going over to join Donat as he ate. Kanna fallowed the dragon, smiling to herself. "Yeah, one other girl. She's a little quirky, but you should be able to get along with her." She paused, looking up to the sky. "She's not 'human', but she's almost like one. Her race keeps on ending up...ah...getting to Gaia by accident. I hope you don't mind her...way of communication." Donat frowned. Way of communication...? "What, is she deaf or blind?" He remembered his brother, a slight twinge of homesickness settling in at that moment. But Dad trusted Kanna, and that...That was enough. Plus he was very sure it wasn't goodbye forever. The dragon glanced up as Donat asked about this other girl, curious as well. The woman nearly laughed, cracking a grin. "No, no. Mei's perfectly healthy. You see, her race speaks telepathically, sort of, for the most part. Mei's gifted and very, very smart, so she can talk just like you and I can as well. She'll probably test you to see if you're 'sensitive' to her projections, that's her speaking, though." She explained, smiling. "I don't know what she'll think of you, but you're both around the same age, though her race ages faster." The goat-boy nodded, smiling at how well things were explained. He was sure there would be more explanations later as well. So now he had a sister who was his age, or around it at least. "Guess I'm gonna be surrounded by women, huh, 'Mara?" He smiled. Yes. Yes you are, and don't forget it! Amara commented, smirking. She rested her head on Donat's knee, looking up at him silently. "I guess so." The musician nodded. "Now, I think you'll be using my room until I get a new bed for you n' get the practice room cleared out. We'll have to see how that'll work for Miss Amara here too. How about we get back on the road, kay? We'll have a nice dinner out in Barton." Donat nodded, standing carefully. "Something vegetarian, right?" He asked, a little bit worried. Amara yawned, stretching before she strided towards the car again, urged by the prospect of a good meal. She didn't have anything against road stops, but they had what they had. With the door now open, she settled herself back in the cramped spot she'd been before. Kanna smiled, closing Amara's door before she got in the driver's seat, doing a seat belt check before the car went on. "It shouldn't be too much longer. Let me know if you need a bathroom break or anything." With that, the car pulled away, returning to the highway. Donat smiled, looking out the window again at the scenery, suburbs creeping up now. A new family, huh? And a sister at that. Maybe moving wasn't so bad after all....

The Arrival Home The car pulled in to the garage without much trouble, parking neatly in a reserved space. "Here we are." Kanna smiled slightly, turning the engine off.Donat looked around, observing the garage to get a feel for it. "So...What do we do about the boxes?" He asked, getting out as she did. "I think there's a cart over there. Could you let 'Mara out while I get it?" She smiled even more, starting to walk off further into the dim lot. Out? She was getting out now? Amara looked up from her spot, frowning as best a dragon could. They were 'home' already? The goat smiled slightly, opening up the side door and picking up a box, then another, and another.....Soon enough though, his back started to tell him it was a bad idea, and he stopped, sitting down against the car. "Can you get out?" He sighed to his companion, who soon climbed over the last few containers, feeling freedom at last. Kanna returned with a cart a little bit later, walking over to Donat. "You feeling ok?" She asked, crouching down to get to eye level. Amara sat beside him diligently. Well of course he's not. Look at his expression, she frowned. Not like the lady could hear her, anyway.... "My back just hurts a little...." He gave a slight smile. "It's normal. Happens a lot with lifting and stuff..." She smiled slightly, helping him up. "We'll get you some painkillers when we get to the apartment. I'll load the boxes. Don't need you getting a strain, right?" The woman grinned, starting to load.
Soon enough, the loading was done, and the three exited the elevator to the 3rd floor. After fumbling with the keys, the door opened. "Welcome home..." She smiled, letting him step in first. The apartment itself was rather clean, a sofa and TV to the left of a dining table and the kitchen. To the right of the door was a closet for coats, the left being a small storage room. Other than that, 4 rooms seemed to be at the back of the apartment. Donat stepped in, guiding the cart beside the closet. "Wow...." Was his first comment. Of course, at hearing the door open, a petite girl peeked up over the side of the couch, hair sticks lopsided from lounging. Kanna's home after all this time?Amara sensed the other being in the room, going past Donat over to the couch. Who is this girl? "Ah, there you are." Kanna smiled to the now standing female by the couch. "Meirou, this is Donat, and that's Amara. Amara, Donat, this is Meirou. She'll be your sister, I guess." She sheepishly said, rubbing the back of her neck.Donat looked her over. Kanna had been right. Almost the same as a human girl, but shorter, and more delicate. "It's nice to meet you..." He smiled, offering a hand to shake. Meirou looked over between him and the dragon. A brother...? Oh geez, this would take getting used to... sweatdrop She politely stepped over and shook his hand with a slight smile. "Pleased." She spoke, voice not even the slightest bit strained. Though her projections were going to Kanna....What is this 'BROTHER' thing about anyway, huh?! You could have WARNED me! Where's he sleeping? Though I do think the dragon is a bit much.... SPACE. ISSUES. Amara fallowed the girl, hoping for a greeting as well, only to be ignored. HEY. THERE IS ANOTHER LADY IN THE HOUSE WHO NEEDS HANDSHAKES.Kanna gave a sheepish look over to Meirou, Donat seeming oblivious to the projections. Oh dear. Space issues indeed.....Three people...And a dragon. Oh dear indeed. Donat blinked at seeing Amara having a paw raised up, sitting ladylike as usual. "Amara wants handshakes too." He smiled, watching his new sister blink and glance down at the dragon. Oh, Meirou is so sorry, Miss Amara, she apoligises, sensitive to the dragon's thoughts. She bends down, gently shaking the paw with a smile. Now does the Miss forgive her?So Meirou can hear her, huh? Amara smirks, looking at the girl. WELL. This will be most interesting, and of course Meirou is forgiven. The dragon settles down to sit on the floor."Well...It looks like Donat n' Amara'll get my room. I'll sleep out here until I can get another bed and clear out the practice room." Kanna comments. "So yes, Mei, you get to keep your room. Now. Who's up for dinner?" She grins, clasping her hands together.Donat grins, nodding. "Dinner sounds rockin'." Oh dinner~? "Sounds great." The porcelain smiles, readjusting the hairsticks. Amara simply nods, hoping she'll be allowed in as well."Well then. We'll unpack when we get back." Kanna grins. "Off to the car!" And so, the group went to eat.

Dear Diary,
Or rather, a piece of paper. I unpacked, and looks like I forgot my diary. Kanna might buy me a new one if I ask. Oh, right. I've moved in with Kanna, and Meirou. They're both really nice, and I hope I'm a good addition to the family. Amara's rooming with me in Kanna's old room.
I really do miss Dad, Serif, and Arlyn. Not to mention Lucretia and Bhel, either. But family will always be family, and I bet I'll get to see them again, right? It's not the end of the world. However, I'm not sure how my new family will like me as a new addition.
I still don't know much about Kanna. She's nice, don't get me wrong, but it's awkward living with new people. At least I've got Amara by my side, and she seems to like Kanna and Meirou...But I'm still not sure. I bet things'll get way better as I live here longer.
The trip itself was pretty boring. Nothing but hills, until we hit Barton. Corn fields, everything. Talk about out of civilization! Lunch was just ok too. Nothing really to expect from a gas station. Dinner was good, though. I'm glad there's vegetarian food here too.
The apartment, however, is just ok too. It's rather small for four people, and Kanna has to sleep on the couch! That's not good for her job, whatever she does...Meirou has her own room, too, though her's is really narrow. Says she likes it that way, but I couldn't stand it. There's nowhere to stretch out in there! I hope I can get a room with Amara, and Kanna gets a room too. This place is just really cramped.
Donat
PS: I wonder how much Dad misses me...?

Dear Diary,
Well. That was interesting. Suddenly, bam, two new family members. Well, a kid and a dragon. Meirou's seem to have taken it pretty well. Could've been worse. So, anyway, Donat seems to like the situation for now. Lord knows it needs to change..
Oh, about that. This apartment? WAY too small. I've got two growing kids and a dragon, and sleeping on the couch can't be good for my back. So either I convert the practice room, or I get an actual house. I'm leaning on the latter.
The drive home from D-Corp was....Dull. Nothing much to pick up on the radio, and lovely countryside. Poor Amara was cramped in the back, with the boxes of stuff. Oh, I might need a bigger car too. ...Like THAT'll ever happen.
So yeah. Life's fine and well. Just a little bit more hectic. Just hope I don't have kid wars here to deal with. Mei's old enough to help watch 'em. ...I hope.
~Kanna

Quote: It had been a rather long while since any of the family had been back to their small apartment. A rather impromptu tour of the Barton Orchestra had caused the entire family to pack up in a rush, only to be pushed onto a plane elsewhere. While touring had been fun, they all agreed it was time for a break. "Well. Here we are. Home sweet home." The piccoloist sighed, unlocking the door as she staggered in with the barely-plane-limit suitcase. Donat, Meirou, and Amara stumbled in after her, all groggy from the flight that had taken far too long. ...At least it's not too dusty. Meirou commented, rubbing her eyes as the lights flickered on. It was just as much of a mess as it had been when they had left. Amara sauntered over to the couch, flopping down on it only to be met by a grey cloud. ...I take that back."Weren't you looking at a bigger house?" Donat yawned, dumping his bags beside the others. "I mean, do you really want to sleep on that tonight?" He gestured to his sneazing dragon, causing the woman to sigh. She observed the entire place, giving an exasperated groan. "You guys up for one last hotel room?" Kanna frowned, raising an eyebrow. "It's not good for any of us to sleep with this much dust. First thing in the morning I'll get to cleaning and looking through the real-estate. I think we all need some more space. 'Specially if 'Mara's gonna get...bigger." She paused for another yawn. The three nodded enthusiastically, grinning. "It's settled. Let's go, guys." Thus, the four left the apartment again in the state of despair.
