I continually bomb playing tests. my bass clarinet always seems to have something wrong with it when a playing test comes up. fortunately, I no longer have to try to become first chair.

Eh. I wouldn't say I 'bombed' it. We had to play a certain section of a song for our exams in band, and since we 'didn't have enough time' we had to play in front of the entire band. It wasn't too bad, I kinda forgot to play the last 3 notes, but it's all good biggrin I still got an A. 3nodding

Yeah. gonk The clarinet chromatic really sucks, but luckily I've never been forced to play it for a grade and/or tryout. whee
Speaking of tryouts...A few weeks ago on the 4th, the day we got back to school, we did chair tryouts. There's this little run sort of thing, and it peaks, and gets softer gradually back down the run. It sounds REALLY cool when done right. I went in there, did totally awesome until the VERY last note of the really cool run, and I squeaked horribly. gonk It was one of those "My God that's making me sick!" squeaks that seems to last forever...and ever...Still got 2nd chair though. >.> ninja

I just had a playing exam for my music class. I didn't do horrible, but I definately could have done much better.

We had to know, 10 scales, all major and go up chromatically from scale to scale. And she wanted that memorized... pfft I cant remember those key signatures!

Then we had to know 6 minors, but only play one. Which wasnt horrible.

Then we had these excellerators in the back of our books and she wanted one of three of those...

Then we had a prepared piece, in which I had a high D, which is hard to hit sometimes! She wanted that memorized too! sweatdrop

Thennnn, she did sight reading with us! So we had like 10 measures of a piece that we had to sight read

Twas crappy! crying

o.O;;

Chair tests are evil... while in high school our band director decided that it would be a good idea to round out the percussionists. You see, we had a problem with all the same people playing all the same parts. As a way of remedying that, Dear Mr. Strickler gave us a playing test that consisted of three parts: snare, mallets, and timpani. This would haven't been so bad if I had known how to play the mallets. Give me a piece of music and then MAYBE three years later you will get something that resembles the piece...kind of sort of. It's sad really...

I played the songs okay.. but I blanked out on the scales.... so I got 7th out of 10th chair..... as much as I like playing music, I hate band class.

I have a playing test tomorrow that I will most likely bomb. fortunately, I'm the only bass clarinet in symphonic band this year, so I won't be competing with anyone for 1st chair.

heh, yeah. he makes us play 4 of our major scales every six weeks with arpeggios (sounds easy right? wrong. or maybe i'm just a slacker), but we had a pop quiz last week on pretty much our hardest scale. oh god, it was awful. he made teh saxophones go first, muhahaha. it sucked eggs so bad...
