Phoenixliv I like landscapes but it really is hard to get a good shot. Typically I "focus" (haha pun!) on Macro work. Finding something special in the mundane world - looking at everything in a different way that makes it new. I've been just starting to dabble in HDR landscapes too - I've only done one so far but the results are just too cool! we like puns here! (lol. points at the guild name) Macro is fun, Lots of people get stuck doing mediocre work with Macro, so I know a few people who think that all macro photography sucks.

Photograhers tend to be pun fans ... not sure why sweatdrop just something I've observed. It's true that many people just shoot small stuff because it looks neat or whatever and completely forget composition and when I look back at my older stuff I see I was definitely guilty of that. I think I've gotten better though. My newest Macro shot:

good thing he wasn't on the green ones, you never would have seen him. (at least in the picture, unless you told us he was there.)

What a dilemma indeed! I live in a swamp with lots of mosquitoes, so I appreciate the work spiders do ... as long as they stay off me.
Anyway, when I first saw the scene this is how everything was posed but the spider was running around kinda freaked by my closeness and shutter noise and yeah, the pic just doesn't work with spidey on the green.
Thanks to you both for your kind comments!

(hence, you will not see a lot of landscape photography out of me.)

Sounds like spiders should be your friends with how much exposure you have with them. wink

I'm shopping for a new lens (mainly because I'm getting jealous of cilayin's future toys) and this is a question that pops in my head. What kind of photography do I like taking?! I know that I listed a couple on my first post but I'm seriously digging landscapes and urban/rural pictures. I enjoy walking around the city with my camera and it's being a big hurdle right now when I have to carry all my gear. I also like to do portrait pictures, parties, and casual events. Maybe some of you can help me here... these are the four lenses I'm looking at: Canon 17-40mm f/4L ($735) Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II ($1500) Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM ($1000) Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 ($450) Any help appreciated!

I wish I could help you, I'm kind of a newb when it comes to the technical things/ hard wear for photography, (thats why I had to ask about the lens I got) but I'm sure you will be able to figure it out, and I really hope you get some help from this guild! (thats what its for)

Just doing my own research, I'm very much leaning towards the 17-55mm. :/
I'm scratching the first two out so it really boils down to whether I want the Canon or the Tampon. (Yes, pun intended. smile )
Done. I've bought the 17-55mm. Sorry cil, I couldn't wait for your opinion this time. I decided to buy it before I change my mind! LOL!
