The house was actually quiet for once. Niki had mentioned doing some cleaning and it seemed to have caused her kids to have disappeared. Ala had stated something about doing some flying. Allete had decided to go to the mall with Evelyn. It seemed the girls all knew that if they stayed around, they'd be put to work. The woman had sighed, but having a quiet house for once was almost worth the chore. She had already tackled the kitchen and was moving on to the bathrooms.
She didn't have to do too much to her own bathroom, just straightening some things up and putting away a few things. As she was putting away the items, she did a check on the number of pads she had left. Plenty to last for a few more months, still. "Hmmm, I should probably pull some of those out..." Niki muttered, stopping to think for a moment. When had her last period been? She was bad about not keeping track of it and now had to think back to when it had last been. And the answer ended up being... "Six weeks?" Her brows furrowed. That couldn't be possible. She was rather regular. But no matter, the answer was the same when she counted back twice more.
A small cold pit began to start up in her stomach. Surely she couldn't...? She had to be mistaken and remembering wrong... But now the woman would have no rest from her worries until she knew for sure. Blessing the fact that her kids were all gone and would be for several more hours still, Niki made her way through the house to grab her car keys.
---
One frantic drive later, the woman returned home with a bag of at-home pregnancy tests. All of them claimed to be the most accurate... and she'd been unable to decide on which brand. So she just got one of all of them. No sense leaving it to chance. Sure... she'd gotten a funny look from the clerk and she'd muttered something about a school lecture, which probably hadn't been believed for a moment.
Just in case one of her kids returned home early, Niki locked her bedroom door and her bathroom door. Now... time to read the instructions... at least twice. The butterflies had kicked in hard by now and her hands shook a bit from nerves as she opened the packages. Find the little folded up piece of paper... and now try not to tear it as you open it and read it.
----
"This... this... can't be..." All of them?! All of them had turned up positive?! Niki sighed and slumped into the floor of her bathroom, the butterflies now replaced with a sense of dread. How... how was she going to tell Alan? How would he take it? The thought of abortion barely fleeted through her mind before she firmly squashed it. No. No, she couldn't do that. This was a little life that depended on her. She sighed again as she wondered how she was going to tell her kids. Well, Alan deserved to learn first. But maybe she should go to a doctor first? Just to make sure? After all... these at-home tests could be wrong... they could all be wrong... right?
Niki didn't really believe that, but any little thing that she could grasp onto she did. So she gathered up the tests and tossed them into the trash before going to find the phonebook. Oh wow... there were a lot of places. The woman frowned as she skimmed the list before finally closing her eyes and jabbing her finger at that section. She opened them. "Gaia Maternity and Fertility Clinic?" Well, why not? She picked up the phone and dialed the number. Might as well make sure... well, really really sure...

Please say it isn't so! In-thread Clinic RP
Niki glanced about as she walked into the clinic, nervous over being there. She'd told her kids she was running some errands and had managed to escape from the house. It was odd sneaking around from your own kids. The waiting room was empty which calmed the woman down some as she made her way over to check in with the receptionist. She was given some forms to fill out and told to take a seat. She glanced through the forms. Eh, boring stuff. With a sigh, she set to filling them out.
Amena watched curiously as a new woman entered the clinic. She sat on her chair, kicking her legs back and forth under her. As they came up, she tried to see her feet over her biiiiig belly, then let them drop again.
She was just there for some routine work. As she was about to pop, she was coming in every other day now, so that they could check her, and keep her there, should it seem that she was close to giving birth.
Her back was killing her. Babbbbyyy. When are you going to come out?
Coming out from the back, having just finished cleaning up his office, Sin looked around, a small trashbag in his hand. He needed to take the trash out to the dumpster, but stopped when he saw the new patient. Smiling, he nodded and greeted her. "Hello."
Niki glanced up as she heard a noise and spotted another woman in the waiting room. Huh, she'd managed to miss spotting her earlier. Her attention went back to the form for about a whole two seconds before another noise distracted her. Ah, it appeared to be a worker. She smiled back, a bit nervously. "Hi."
Sin nodded, though walked out of the door, just going out to deposit the trash into the dumpster before returning. Once back inside, he looked down at Nikiana, "Are you here for an appointment?" He walked past, glancing back toward the doors that led back to the actual medical area. He needed to wash his hands after that, just to maintain the standards of sanitation. Looking at Amena, he inquired, "How close are you?"
She nodded. "Yeah." She'd managed to finish the forms while he'd gone on outside and went to turn them in. Now up, she decided to head over and sit closer to where Amena was sitting. They might as well keep each other company for a bit... plus, the other woman didn't look overly comfortable. "Hey." She greeted Amena, taking a seat nearby.
Shuffling in quietly I glanced around I rubbed my lips, my wings folding against my back. Holding the plush kitty closer to my chest I sighed and lifted a shoulder. I suddenly wished I had brought a jacket, I forgot how chilly clinics could be. My ears twitched as I walked further into the waiting room, signing in under Sin's appointment sheet I moved to sit down. Off to the side, in a corner, away from anyone else in the waiting room. I wanted to be alone, I wanted to be home, in bed, cuddling all the soft furs and silks and satins... I hated this. Sighing loudly I nuzzled my face into the kitty plushie and mewed softly.
Nodding when Nikiana is finished with the forms, "If you like, I can see you as soon as I'm finished with my one o'clock, if no one else is available." I step over to the sign-in sheet after Nishiki walked away from it.
Seeing Nishiki walk in, a hand goes over my mouth as I hide a grin, the grin breaking with random, quiet chuckles. Looking at the sign-in sheet, I speak quietly toward her, "You're early. That's good. I can see you now, if you like." I smile, approaching her and offering a hand, the other going to your stomach, looking at her, "How are the little ones? Are you ready for your first, official, check-up?" I was as much speaking to her as her stomach. I was slightly irritated that there had been no check-ups prior to this point, but I insisted since I wanted to make sure all was well with mate and whelps.
Amena smiled politely at Sin. Amena was very close...or so she thought.
"Um...Almost done." She wasn't sure about how it worked for Porcelains. For all she knew, she could still have months to go! Imbri only told her what she knew about human pregnancies, which was 9 months. Amena figured she had to be at 8 and a half now.
Amena waved at Niki and sent greeting emotions to her. Hello!
My ears twitch as I hear the chuckles, glaring over the top of the plushie at you. Pursing my lips some I lifted a shoulder, hugging the plushie closer. My free hand lifts to take your hand, watching you before looking at my stomach and mumbling. "Mhm, we're ready." I decided not to mention that my mom had had a doctor do home visit the past two years. I lifted a shoulder and stood up slowly, using your hand to help me up. Once I was up both arms wrapped around the plushie and I nuzzled it more, murmuring. "Let's get this over with so I can go home and soak in a hot bath."
"Okay." Niki turned to look for a moment as another woman walked in and the doctor headed over to talk with her. She picked up one of the magazines set about the room and started to flip through it. She glanced back up as Amena greeted her. "Bet you're ready for it to be over, huh?"
Speaking quietly to Amena, I nodded, "You look close. I hope you're taking care." I nodded, moving toward the back with Nishiki.
The small woman noddded. Amena was -definatly- ready for it to be over.
She held out her little hand and waved a single word to Niki. Amena!
"Er...My name," she said, her voice cracking a bit. "It's Amena. Sorry, habit." Amena fell silent again. She forgot that not many people communicated the way she did, and even less understood what she was even doing when she didn't talk.
Aunt Maggie said people would think she didn't like them! And Amena was a friendly girl, so the thought shocked her (Imbri had chuckled though, and said she wished it worked that way).
"Nikiana... or Niki." She closed the magazine, turning slightly in her chair to face the other woman. "Do you know what you're having?" She knew some people still wanted to be surprised by the gender of their child, but it seemed they were not as common anymore.
"How is Miss Niki today?" Amena asked politely.
She laughed a little. "Well..." They hadn't asked about the gender of the baby. It was getting very far along, and she had felt like she was starting to feel the little baby's presence. It could have very well been her imagination. "I feel like it will be a girl," she finally said. She wasn't sure how to explain to the stranger how her kind worked.
"We didn't ask, though."
"Nervous..." She admitted. Part of her was hoping that those tests had been wrong... and part of her was kind of hoping they were right. Stupid indecisiveness. Just how part of her was excited and the other part scared. Couldn't they just figure out one emotion?
"A girl, huh?" Niki chuckled. She wouldn't even know what to hope for... other than healthy. If even existent. She was still partially in denial about the whole thing, hence her presence here. Nothing confirmed it more so than a doctor telling you.
Amena felt her uncertainty, but wasn't sure how to reassure the woman. Amena and Silver had meant for a baby to happen, so she was overjoyed to learn they had fiiiinnally conceived.
She hoped that Niki got the answers from the doctor and that they would help to clear up the confused-ness she was feeling.
"Is the father here with you?" Amena asked, curiously.
Niki blushed at the question and shook her head. "No. Uh. He doesn't know... yet..." She ducked her head, staring at the floor. "I'm not sure how he'll take it..." Her fingers played with the pages of the magazine in her lap. "We didn't exactly plan..." Her voice trailed off and she sighed.
With that, I walked you out, smiling, "Even for a bit, I can accept. Though, I'm beginning to get more than a little irritated. Having been denied you for so long, I certainly want to make up for lost time." I smirked, looking at you, a hand ruffling your hair, then stroking up one of your ears. "I drop you off here." I stopped, the nurse taking you into a small room that we were near as I tell her that your blood needs to be taken to be tested. I step out into the waiting room, looking around to see if the other woman is still around.
Niki glanced up as the doctor returned to the waiting room, the butterflies in her stomach kicking up. Her gaze returned to the other woman and offered a smile. "I suppose things all happen for a reason, don't they?" Niki sighed, her hands moving for a moment to her stomach before falling into her lap.
-in progress-
