OPENING DAY HAS COME
Mike Felt usually delivered on promises. It was a habit of his, really, that was what he did.
Tonight, he had done so perfectly. He had promised something "special" to those attending, and they had certainly received it.
It was a gorgeous evening in Denver, just the right temperature for an outdoors party. There were at least two hundred people in Mike's back yard, and he knew every single one of them by name, without hesitation. Tiki torches and other yard decorations were appropriately littered about the yard, and American flags and other such patriotic material hung from his house and from the gazebo out in the back yard.
Food and drink were provided in plenty; Mike was being his usual social powerhouse self, greeting newcomers and saying goodbye to those who had to leave. More arrived than left; those leaving were going to miss the good part, or so Mike had told them.
Lisha and Adela were both somewhat surprised when he came upon them from behind, laying a meaty hand on each of their shoulders.
"Greetings, one and all, lovely evening, right?" he asked with a smile.

Adela was holding a glass of wine and nearly dropped it in surprise. "Yeah, it's a pretty night." Mike was a friend of her dad's. Since he couldn't go to the party, she took his place. "So Mike, you wanna let us," she referred to both herself and Lisha, "in on the big secret? What's the good part that you keep mentioning?"

Stetson Schraeder, walking by, stopped to snap a few brief pictures of Mike and the women. Hearing Adela's question, he perked up, ready to listen in case Mike answered.

"Aw, but it's gonna be a great surprise," he told her, jokingly sticking out his lower lip into a pout. "If you absolutely must know I'll tell you, but you've got to keep it a secret, mmkay?"

"No promises," Schraeder sniffed softly. "I'm a reporter, after all." No point in pussyfooting around it, or even lying about it.

"Aww, come on," she told the reporter. "It's not like we're not all gonna find out sometime later, right?" However, she respected his honesty and how upfront he was about his profession. She turned back to smile at Mike. "So please, Mike? I at least promise to keep it a secret."

Mike didn't seem to have noticed the reporter.
"Fine, fine. It's gonna be a briliant fireworks show, we've got some incredible fireworks stacked up back there. You're gonna love it. It's gonna be the most impressive thing you've ever seen!"
