the only thing that really bothers me is the potential for this to become a mainstream american thing.
i know it was a publicity stunt, but teen vogue displays many horrible wannabe lolita outfits.
and miley cyrus wears it mostly on stage. her's are always made out of shine-y material though D= the fact that at least four other celebrities are wearing it bothers me. a lot.
and hot topic is now selling "petticoat/tutu dresses," their corsets have been getting more lolified and a lot of things like hoodies have lace and ribbons all over them. their hair accessories and tights are now more lolita inspired. not to mention their slutty take on decora fashion in their photography.
it worries me. if lolita became mainstream in america, it would be ruined. it would be slutty and revealing. and i predict it being a bigger fad than twilight =/

Hot Topic's always sewn lace onto hoodies, it's part of their attempt to go Romantic Goth [and subsequent failure]. It's not related to lolita. The only items they had shooting for lolita were the time that Tripp knocked off Alice & the Pirates vests, and back when they sold a dress that actually passed for [really cheap, Bodyline quality] lolita.
Lolita isn't going mainstream by any stretch of the imagination, it's still something people think is cosplay and so on. As for Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, if you think she's trying for lolita, I think you may need to look at the handbook again. ^^;
As for the "four other celebrities" who have worn it, I can only name two, if even that. Lady Gaga went all out. Lil'Mama went half-way by wearing lolita items as regular clothing. Paris Hilton's outfit was compared lolita by a stylist who was criticizing her, it wasn't her intent to be "lolita" at all. It was lingerie for crying out loud.
Like Amber said, puffy, frilly skirts are not always lolita. Forever 21 has been selling skirts with built-in petticoats for extra fluff for years. Doesn't mean they're going for lolita, though. Most of them are retro-inspired and take after 50s stylings, or maybe a tiny bit of Victoriana in their blouses.

She is so weird and sings some trashy songs, but they are so catchy. I like that she at least knows what she was doing and went all out like Spuntino said.

I will admit the outfit is cute. She does wear it well. It just feels... off somehow. It could be that the make up is a bit odd, or her haircut, or the tan, but aside from that stuff I don't see much wrong. I'm almost proud in a way that a lolita is getting to be so famous.

This saddens me because she is known for wearing crazy outfits, and I don't want people to think of Lady Gaga and her craziness when they see Lolita outfits.

Currently:down about this topicSince 3.9.08...-550/1000K- Apparently someone dressed up as her Lolita thing for halloween.. I mean people can't say that she's the only one doing it for money because Mana has his own line of clothing if i remember... But still it disgusts me how an American based artist would actually attempt to JUST because she's filming in Japan...If she REALLY wanted to use Japanese style then she could've done a kimono type outfit but instead she chose to rape lolita or ATTEMPT to do lolita and thus rape it :/ But perhaps im just saying this because hate lady gaga and I hate when something i like goes mainstream to losers who only do it because "everyone is doing it" -DONATE FOOL- I'll always be yours As said...9.4.09...listening to:Main St Electrical Parade by Shinichi Osawa
