Bella listened to her mate and his suggestion, her own brows lifting with delight at his idea. Though she didn't look at the memories of the pond as bad or negative, there were a few that were oddly bitter-sweet. Still, part of her wondered if her beloved mate felt more affected by shadows of the past than she, and instantly the cream mare desired nothing more than to fix things.
"A makeover you say?" She repeated, grin swiftly appearing on her face and golden eyes twinkling with delight. "That sounds absolutely perfect. . . Though I promise no memory here or with you has ever been unsavory." She quickly added, not wanting to come off as too enthusiastic. She wasn't a bitter sort, and though they had their bumps in the road, she didn't regret any time spent upon Azumoth. Never would change her life. . . . she was completely and utterly full of bliss just as things were now.
Stepping forward, the mare bridged any remaining distance between herself and Azumoth, reaching up to place her nose up against his own. She was his mate, yes, she could get away with it. . . . Smiling a radiant smile, she gazed in to his features and ignored any knit brows or signs of 'displeasure' she might see. "Did you have anything in particular in mind. . .?" Pausing a moment, Bella smirked wryly and added, "Outside of throwing coconuts in a rainfall of leaves."
((Short but I'm starting to fall asleep . . . ugh. ._.; Time to go sleeps nao.))

"That coconut was a stroke of genius," Azumoth pointed out with mock indignanty, his brow furrowed and he snorted abruptly on her muzzle as she gave him a very soquili-esque kiss. He knew she was teasing of course, he'd known her for long enough to realise when she spoke in jest and over the years he had slowly developed a bit more humour that complimented her own. Granted he hadn't completely lost his cynicism or his dark appreciation for black comedy but he had lightened up a bit! "It is the most accurate manner in which I can express my exasperation at your behaviour on occasions!"
"Alas, I wouldn't change you," he seemed to consider this for a few moments and then smirked. He'd grown accustomed to her presence now, and the thought of her vanishing from his life wasn't pleasant. He sincerely doubted that anyone could complete him in the same way that his beloved did - no one understood him as well. Goodness, despite her social nature she still permitted him peace and quiet which was a staggering concept for some of the social butterflies to consider. All things considered, she was the tender side of him and kept his temper in check.
...Or she did for the most part.
Nevertheless, over the years she had changed a little; her forward nature had evolved into something more and she wasn't one for subtle hints when she wanted something! The spirits knew all too well that he was aware of her desire for more children and as she smiled up at him, he felt a slight hint of that in her eyes. Delighted she might have been by his gesture, but she was definitely broody! Not that he minded; he rather enjoyed that particular hobby but that wasn't why he was here!
She was ruining the mood!
"Gah!" He muttered and withdrew a little, sucking in a deep breath to regather his composure before pointing a wing accusingly at his mate. "You're distracting me, mare!" he declared with mock sterness. "I brought you here for a reason and now you are making my mind skitter about like a disorientated squirrel!"

Chuckling lightly, giving a small shake of her head, the mare couldn't help but grin at her mate. Bella had always understood that she caused he stallion more grief than he'd often admit; some times her ideas weren't perhaps the most well-thought through, or even worse, bordered on the illogical! She understood quite clearly how upset or furstrated Azumoth could become. . . . but she was who she was and though she often tried to appease her mate, at this rate she'd long since given up making much more progress.
It was payback, if you would, for all the times she felt inspired to throw coconuts at his head. "Very well then, m'dear," she grinned, giving her tail a light twitch. "But remember that exasperation is a two way street should a coconut your very own ever greet you." It was a completely hollow threat as Bella would never devise such a plan. In fact, she'd just as soon roll her eyes, call him a plank than anything else. No coconuts necessary. . . .
But to each their own. A little exasperation never hurt a relationship anyway, and whatever differences they saw were compromised or forgiven (at least on Bella's side!). A little fuss and fight lead to eventually making up. . . it was the rough times as well as the good that helped draw a relationship together.
She'd spent eight years with her stubborn man and she'd spend an eternity more so long as the spirits let her. All the coconuts in the world included.
It was then that her mate retreated, pointing a wing at her and delcaring his 'frustration'. Bella canted her head inquisitively for a moment before bursting in to a fit of laughter, unable to resist. She really couldn't help it; the way in which he almost pouted at her was adorable really and his simile amusing. "I can't help it, you know that. . . It's not my fault your rogue charms and fruit-throwing cause my heart to flutter so! I was merely agreeing that a make over of memories might be pleasant, and was waiting in turn to see what you might have had in mind. . . " Amber eyes burned bright as she looked back up at her mate.
"Trust me, I haven't even begun to make myself a distraction. You'd know quite clearly if I did." And wasn't that the truth!

He released a rather audible groan at her remarks and raised his eyes to the canopy above. He was no longer counting to control his temper, he was just trying to regather his composure! She certainly had a way with her words, she knew exactly how to send him spiralling down into a rather deep ditch when she wanted to. Once upon a time he would have been able to deny this, he would have been able to control his behaviour but the years had corrupted him and he definitely wasn't disciplined when it came to certain situations. Still, he persevered and eventually he was able to rein in his poorly behind mind - he returned his gaze to the mare and regarded her critically for a few moments though he failed miserably in hiding his smile; he knew she was right. If she wanted to be a distraction he was fairly confident she would have been a very good one by now!
He resisted the urge to rise to the bait though as best he could.
"I sincerely doubt you would need a coconut for me to receive the message within a reasonable time - however I will keep my eyes open for any potential traps in future," he replied good naturally. He'd be rather amused if she did manage to pull off something quite so intricate; he'd always known his mate was smart but her goals were often more spontaneous and usually always based on emotion rather than logic. Logic was perfect for such little tricks whereas spontaneity and illogical musings were usually prone to failure. However there were moments when even she could be logical - it was probably for the best that he did pay attention now that he'd issued that challenge; he made a mental note for future reference to watch out for coconuts.
...Or any other flying fruit for that matter.
"However in all seriousness, I did bring you here for a reason other than to jest and smack you with a coconut," his expression softened and the smile drifted from his lips. He didn't necessarily purse them but his expression did become rather unreadable as though he wasn't generally accustomed to schooling his features into the emotions he was trying to convey. Oh love was easy to see in his eyes but who'd have thought he'd express it so openly? A long time ago he would have considered the entire idea to be utterly ridiculous; he and such emotions didn't mix!
"For a long while now I've believed you were owed something," he cleared his throat and continued. "I had plenty of opportunities to provide you with it as well, but I didn't want to sound quite so...forced," he paused at this and forced the fluttering in his stomach to behave; it had seemed much more easy when she wasn't there and watching him. "I wanted it to mean something," he added after a few moments.
Even his head was starting to get impatient with him now and gave him a rather brutal jolt, enough to kick him into action.
"I brought you here not because I desired petty revenge for the exasperation you cause me - but to tell you that I love you," he murmured softly. This time it was said not in frustration, not in rage but as a genuine statement and hopefully the tears wouldn't be quite the same as they had been all those years ago.

Bella listened to her mate, golden eyes burning with mild curiosity as he spoke. He had brought her here to make some better memories with in the cool lake, and while she honestly was touched at the prospect, she also wondered if he'd thought of it himself or if Moppet had planted the idea in his head. Still, in any light, she was tickeled pink that he was going through with the plan. . . .
Mind, getting bopped on the head with a coconut as not something she would have planned to reign in a new start, but Azumoth thankfully didn't think at all like she. She was full of emotion, while he was full of practicality and logic. It made for an interesting time together, and while sometimes they did indeed clash and butt heads due to natural stubbornness on both their parts, at least it meant the other was always kept on their toes. It also kept their relationship refreshingly active, as a little fuss and fight over the logical view versus emotional wasn't always a bad thing.
Bella had long ago learned that the best part of fighting was the making up. . . and yes, she did indeed take full advantage of her right to kiss and make up. And then some.
But chucked fruit aside, the mare canted her head ever so lightly as her mate began to talk about something owed to her. Owed? What could that possibly mean. . . ? As far as Bella were concerned Azumoth owed her nothing - she had everything from him she could have ever dreamed of and as truly happy. Through their awkward beginnings she had gained a friend, an ally, a lover and through that a family and a home. She had both children and grand babies as well as friends. . . . really there was nothing more she could have asked her mate.
But then, he said it, and everything came to a screeching halt. The curiosity she felt suddenly was overwhelmed by both surprise and a sudden surge of affection and joy. Her ears pricked forward in response, her golden eyes widening just for a moment before that warmth and kindness repainted them.
He wanted to tell her that . . . . he loved her?
Now, given she had stuck with him for so many years, one might think that him saying it was a common occurrence. Unfortunately, they were wrong, and the only time she could really remember it was the first and only time he spoke of it. . . and that was him getting frustrated with her ceaseless nervous prattle. So to hear him say it now, so genuinely, and so softly it had quite the effect on the little mare.
She always knew he loved her, even without it being said. She saw it in his actions, in the way he looked at her, the way he touched her and generally just being around him. He opened his heart to her and she had happily wormed her way in and refused to leave. . . But seeing it wasn't exactly the same as hearing it, or knowing that he knew what he felt was love.
Bella was struck speechless. She wasn't sure how to respond and should this have happened when she was younger, she may have just repeated his words dumbly while her brain tried to figure everything out. But she knew he loved her and now she had nothing to say. . . .Though the emotional mare was so overjoyed and absolutely thrilled that her eyes did glisten with a threat of tears anew.
". . . . Azumoth. . . " She finally found her voice, words wretchedly quiet, almost a breath. Stepping closer she pressed her head lightly up against his own, looking him dead in the eye. ". . . you don't know how much this means to me." He had brought her here to confess his feelings, to actually tell her of his love. Bella was both shocked, surprised and utterly delighted!
But completely unprepared on how to respond. Cherishing the moment, falling quiet as she gazed up at her mate with all the adoration she felt, she took a moment before adding ever so quietly, "I love you too. So very, very much."

It was testament to just how much the stallion had changed, Moppet hadn't had any influence on his machinations and had even been surprised herself when he had requested her assistance. Granted, she hadn't really understood the coconut but her son's sense of humour had always been a little bit obscure. She'd catered to his requests though and sure enough, everything had fallen into place bit by bit leaving Azumoth with the necessary tools to make his confession in the most appropriate manner possible. It was as creative as this male ruled by logic could be as he'd be damned if he would be prancing around with a boquet of flowers in his mouth - suffice to say he deemed himself too old for that sort of nonsense and the flower petals had a better affect anyway, or such was his opinion on the matter.
Nevertheless the mare didn't cry as he anticipated and for this he was greatly thankful, never in all his life had he been quite so uncomfortable. Well, the only other time he'd been so uncomfortable was the day he found out he was a father but besides that he was in new territory. He wasn't terribly fond of the nervous twitching in his stomach or the ache in his head, but the reaction he had received was, in the words of his sons, 'totally worth it'. It was obvious that his petite mare was happy, and when he had discovered that her silence was not a bad one (why would it have been?) he slowly but surely began to relax. However, he wasn't assure if he'd be capable of expressing himself in this manner again if he kept feeling quite so queasy. Yes, he loved the mare heart and soul but he wasn't sure he could say it day in day out, it wasn't in his nature!
Perhaps this would be enough until the next anniversary?
Already plots began to form in his head...
"Well I know you do," he replied with a surprising air of confidence despite his reeling stomach. His brow raised into a feigned supercilious fashion and he chuckled, "You told me more than enough but I thought it was about time I returned the favour, nyah?" he drifted into silence at this point and heaved a sigh deep enough to relax his muscles. After a long day of planning he could safely say that he'd been successful. "You aren't going to cry, are you?" he added worridly, his tone hinting at his obvious discomfort at the idea as deep down he was still the same stallion. "I don't think my nerves could take it..." he confessed in a half hearted and obviously joking manner.

The memories of the lake had well and truly been transformed. Though she might have only remembered coconuts being a sign of her mates exasperation, after such a declaration of love, the fruit could only be looked upon fondly. The memories attached to standing knee deep in water, nose to nose with her beloved, were going to be a difficult thing to forget. The tears and awkward beginnings that once coloured this part of the grove were completely and utterly rewired.
It had only taken eight years, but it was worth the wait. Never had she expected him to say it as she had grown used to the fact that those words were used exclusively by her; it was in Azumoth's body language and actions that spoke of his love. . . So to hear it in this unexpected gift, well, the mare was shocked she still could stand for how breathless it made her. Yes, even after eight years of standing by his side, the winged male could still cause her stomach to churn and her legs to feel wobbly and weak.
Honestly some might call her reaction ridiculous. But it could not be helped, not at all! Love was a funny thing and Bella had long since drown in the emotion. Never would he have to question her feelings, no matter how stubborn the two of them could be! Even at her most frustrated or his most exasperated, she loved him, truly, and there was nothing that would change it.
Smiling up at Azumoth, the mare gave her tail a little swish within the water. Her amber eyes absolutely glowed and she gave a shake of her head. "No tears, I assure you," she murmured, still nose-to-nose. "But as for your poor nerves, let me reassure that you couldn't have said it any better, my love. This entire set up, coconut included, was ingenious." The praise was genuine, her delight and glee more than obvious.

"Oh thank the gods," he heaved a huge sigh of relief and his shoulders slumped as evidence of the tension leaving his body. He had unknowingly been holding his breath, perhaps in preparation to bolt or coddle a weeping mare. Words could not describe how grateful he was that she was neither of those things though as he would have been a coward for selecting the first choice and would have failed miserably at the second! She'd tried crying years and years ago, the result? Well he was fairly certain he'd snapped at her in exasperation rather than cooing or reassuring her in the manner she had been hoping. Only a fool would have inferred that he should be capable of such a thing and he had been blessed with a mare who could recognise his good qualities and appreciate them, rather than begruding him for his failures.
Lord knows, they wouldn't be here today if she'd tried to forcably change his ways. In fact, she would most likely have found herself out on her ear, he'd still be a bachelor and for all he knew he may very well have been silenced by his father. Fate had favoured him in this respect, despite his rather grim childhood they had decided that it was most fitting for him to have a happy ending. He knew not everyone was granted this boon and as a consequence he did his utmost never to take it for granted, lest he be punished and subjected to a grim future.
"I am by nature ingenious," he pointed out gently and nudged at her nose just a touch. "Had I not been ingenious, one would suspect I may not hold quite as much appeal as you consider me to hold now," he chuckled gently at this and cleared his throat. It felt rather good now that the strain on his neck was gone, he could breathe normally and with assurances that she wouldn't be bursting into a waterfall of tears any time soon he could relax properly! "Although it is not everyday that one would agree the decision to use a coconut was a good one, I am blessed to have a mate who can also recognise that such a thing was truly a master stroke," he added almost as an afterthought. Rustling his wings against his sides, he drew away and regarded the mare for a few moments before smirking.
"Now you can never say I don't give you anything!" he announced merrily.

Bella couldn't help but beam up at her mate he drew away and spoke his peace. Her golden eyes glowed with delight and a soft chuckle escaped her throat at his conviction. He was quite an amusing fellow when he wanted to be, with a dry sense of humor that cropped up in the most unusual situations. For all his serious nature and sometimes grim looking expressions, there was much more to the stallion than one might presume. And while he had softened slightly on the exterior, he was still the same old Azumoth at the end of the day.
And for that she was ever grateful. He wasn't perfect, but neither was she, and when she had first looked upon him with love so many years ago she had accepted him as a whole - not just his dashing good looks or the sweetness he (sometimes involuntarily) displayed. She took him, shadows and all, and wouldn't have had it any other way.
Even if that meant putting up with coconuts dropped upon her head.
"You are indeed an ingenious creature," she commended with an almost-flick of her tail. The portion that was waterlogged didn't much move, but the base and few strands that weren't soaked did. "It is just one of the many qualities that keep you alluring. . . but even if you lost such creative thinking, you know my love wouldn't fail." And that was the truth. He was hers, thank you very much, just as much as she was his. For better and for worse, she was sticking it out with him, consequences be damned.
Snorting lightly, the mare beamed up at him once more, good humor and entertainment highlighting her gaze. "I've never stated such a thing, though I suppose now I'll never be given a chance. Children and affection cast aside, you've given me a bump on the head through falling coconuts. For that, my fine sir, I will ever be grateful."

He was greying round the edges, that much was for certain but he was considerably older than his mate and given the ‘adventures’ he had had during past years it was unsurprising that they’d taken their toll. However the stallion was aging well and while he may have had hints of grey creeping up within his mane and muscle he had a very distinct and debonair look to him. It was in stark contrast to the mutinous expressions and monstrous stares that had plagued him as a youth. For all intents and purposes, his mate’s influence had ensured that he hadn’t aged into a bitter hermit; instead he had matured into a rather honourable and weather beaten male. It was clear he had a tale to tell (though he wouldn’t strive to do so) but it wasn’t one of bitterness and woe which made him significantly more appealing. Admittedly he had no desire to be appealing to anyone save his family but alas, there were some things he was forced to accept as truth – whether he liked the consequences of his changes or not, Bella had moulded him into something that was significantly more appealing!
...Alas, a dry wit and dark sense of humour had always been a part of the package and it was just as well she had an appreciation for it.
“Are you certain?” Azumoth was teasing only in part, a small segment of his mind troubled by the possibility that if he did lose his touch she might grow bored. It was of course completely ridiculous and most of him realised this, but he was only mortal and as a consequence he was prone to minor lapses in judgement. Paranoia was a given on occasions and he wouldn’t have been who he was if he didn’t question his luck now and again. “If I were to lose such creative thinking I may fall into a rut and become nothing more than a disgruntled old man, I do not know about you, but a bad mood can become rather tiresome after a very short space of time,” he grinned and flashed just a hint of his teeth before leaning back to regard his mate with interest. Evidently he had made the right decision and the anniversary was to be a success, he was aware of how long it had taken him but at least he’d bitten the bullet and done it. It was a great surprise to him to realise that it brought him quite a bit of pleasure – more pleasure than some of the hobbies he had adopted in recent years.
Not that he would do it all the time, it would ruin the affect.
Nevertheless when she spoke her final phrase he did quirk a brow, it was at times like these when he questioned whether or not his sense of hearing was fading. He was fairly certain she had informed him that she was grateful that he’d thrown a coconut at her – more peculiar was that she would forever be grateful for it. His expression was a picture of pure confusion and he did nothing more than stare for a considerable amount of time, she’d trumped him (yet again) with her bizarre remarks. She certainly had her moments and she had bested him beautifully. “You are more grateful for a coconut to the head than you are for your children...?” he murmured quietly, trying to work this concept through his mind. Clearly he’d missed something somewhere, he just couldn’t quite figure out where from!

Though Bella had never thought to change Azumoth, she had hoped to drive in the point that not every mare was an evil creature bent on hurting him. She could fondly remember her first meeting with the stallion within his woods. . . . Oh, how he had intimidated her, but the way he kept pushing her buttons had frustrated her even more! Had she been any older she might not have pursued him like she had, but thankfully, the spirits knew firmly what they were doing.
A desire to make an oath of friendship to him had transformed in to something more epic and more loving than she had ever imagined. Azumoth hadn't been just a 'test' or even just a demand to find a new 'friend'. . . He became the rock of her world, the logic in her naivety and ignorance. Though his harsh words had sometimes left her spirit in shreds or her body in tears, in the end, she had grown from it.
Meeting the winged stallion changed her life forever.
Grey hairs or not, she still found Azumoth ridiculously attractive and made sure the ebony male realized it, be it with words or otherwise. She had no eyes for any other stallion and hardly realized they existed outside of her sons and grandsons. She'd never give him up, no matter what, and that was a stance she would take until death and then some. Chuckling lightly, Bella tossed him a vibrant smile and a wink. "You are stuck with my love until the spirits come down themselves and draw it away. And even if they should do such a thing, it will not be without a fight and a severe one at that!" She added, brows knitting as if she were threatening the world to just think about trying. "You can grow in to an old and disgruntled stallion, even if your humor fails, I will love you regardless. Should a foul-temper befall you or your horns and mane fall off in time, have faith in the knowledge that I didn't fall in love with solely your temper or your dashingly good looks. I fell in love with you as a whole, m'dear, and that means everything that comes with it and everything that might change."
Smiling, she added, "Besides. I have humor enough for the both of us, I think, and should you lose your wit I will make up for it for the both of us." She giggled a little at the thought, realizing that if he ever did lose his good humor, she'd probably drive him crazy in an attempt to make up for it.
Perhaps it was best for both parties involved if he didn't.
Still, her ears pricked up as he questioned her comment. " . . . Dear, that's why I said children and affection cast aside. Your love and the children you've given me could never be topped by anything. . . no matter how many coconuts you dropped on my head.
"But, at the same rate, dropping a fruit on my head came with such beautiful words to follow. The fact you think highly enough of me to pull out such an elaborate scheme, on top of leaving me breathless with your declaration after all these years . . . really, the coconut isn't just an ingenious idea, but it's a sign of the good the years have done us. On top of that, it's another reminder of the gift of love you give to me day in and day out, no matter when or how rare you say it."
Oh, Azuell and Penance were living reminders that she cherished above all. But again, it was why she claimed that should they not count in this situation, it was a little gift and memory she could cherish all to herself.

At the mention that she would love him even if he were bald a mild wave of panic did sweep over him. It was brief and he would argue, completely normal for any male but the thought of losing all his hair when it was such a statement was really quite daunting. It was an opportunity to pause for thought though and he did ponder over whether or not he could pull off the 'sheered' look. Moppet would be in mourning for many years to come and would probably cover herself in soot to go for the 'all black' look but it was an interesting subject to consider. He may very well find he looked quite suave with such a look but he was rather fond of his dreadlocks and they had a certain element of style to them. Frankly he wouldn't be the same without them and it was very therapuetic to have them tended to.
It should have come at no surprise that his facial expression gave away the fact that something was amiss and he seemed lost in thought for quite some time. A swift shake of the head brought him back to the present time though and he returned his attention to his mate. Some might have argued that if he'd had his priorities in the right order he would have been more worried about the possibility of the spirits dragging his mate away from him, but they'd already given him a trial by fire regarding her so why would they do that? Logic stated quite plainly to him that his hair was more likely to fall out - hence the immediate cause for concern. Consequently he did nothing more than raise a brow at that statement, though it was by no means a silent challenge to anyone or anything.
"They do say every female dreams of rescuing a fallen male," he replied teasingly as she gave him her reasons for choosing him over every other male that had entered her life. He was going by a cliche, one that was now a constant source of amusement for him. It really did seem that the mares beyond his grove and beyond the slopes seemed determined to 'rescue' the fallen. He was all for a mare (or stallion for that matter) encouraging an individual to see the world in another manner but when it resulted in careless children he wasn't so sure. Did they simply get bored and wander off? This had always been something he had been subjected to before he had met Bella, they'd entered his life and toyed with it for a time before growing weary and wandering off. he'd later discovered the vast majority were with child and paired with more of a 'white knight' then anything quite so melancholy.
...Truly Bella was in a league of jer own to persevere against one quite so jaded!
Alas he could be grim on occasions and was often the pessimist of the pair but she had worked hard to lighten his mood and his sense of humour had recovered dramatically under her influence. The questionnable and otherwise dry wit had returned and on it's initial return had caused many grove creatures to pause - they'd never known if he was being genuine or was joking. Now and again they ran into much the same problem, his ability to maintain a completely straight face throughout a prank typically disconcerting.
"Maybe I should use something bigger than a coconut next time," he murmured thoughtfully, moreso to himself than to his mate as she continued to explain what she had meant. Her statement made much more sense to him now of course, but it did beg the question as to whether or not a melon would be even more ingenious than a coconut. More importantly, he had to ponder over where the heck he was going to find a melon in the Kawani Province to begin with. Would it be possible to preserve a melon for long enough, if he asked his brother to bring one back with him the next time he was in the orient? Frankly it wouldn't have been the most unusual request Azumoth had ever made - he was surprisingly trusting of the unassuming unicorn despite the language barrier.
"Such words were well overdue, I was aware of this quite some time ago," he confessed sheepishly before clearing his throat. "But you should well know by now exactly how I feel - my level of tolerance for things I don't like is decidedly lacking, nyah?" he murmured with a grin.

Bella blinked as her mate seemed to suddenly find distraction in thought. Considering she just got done making exclamations of both til-death-do-us-part as well as the loss of hair. . . but exactly which was he contemplating? She could only hazard a guess, and instead allowed him a moment to ponder. Her smile never wavered though, and in all due time, he returned his attention back to their conversation at hand.
For all he might exclaim that she was the silly creature between the pair of them, Bella found Azumoth to be the same. They thought differently and while he might be serious and grim, sometimes his actions were just downright amusing to the mare. He could act as foolishly as she, but it was their differences that seemed to bring them together best. While she wore a bleeding heart, he could be proud and prejudiced; while she was optimistic he often saw the pond as half-empty. . even their coats seemed to mimic their attitudes! Hers was pale with soft creams and browns; his of the richest ebony, full of shadow and night. They were quite the pair, but Bella wouldn't have it any other way.
"Every female might dream of rescuing the fallen, but trust me, love, it wasn't at all my intention upon meeting you. I just thought you could use a friend and knew the only way to prove I wasn't going to be like all the others that waltzed temporarily in and out of your life was to make sure you knew I was there. Even after getting kicked out time and time again," she giggled softly, reflecting on their first moments together.
Oh how she probably drove him crazy mad with annoyance. But it worked out for the best, in the end.
"If anything, you've been my savior from the very beginning, and on multiple occasions!" He was her savior, not the other way around. From Malice's wounds, to giving her a lasting friendship, eventual love, and most importantly a family all her own. He gave her a sense of belonging, a reason and she could never thank him enough.
Bella's ears pricked as he spoke aloud of melon's. Giggling lightly, she gave a fake indignant snort and turned her head away. "Well don't use anything too large lest you knock me out completely! I'm more delicate than you, after all," she grinned, reaching over to give a small splash of water in his direction. "And have no horns to stop a felled fruit!" Oooh, now that would be tricky. If she were to ever attempt to 'get him back' she'd have to find a different way to pelt him with fruit. His horns would deflect the brunt of the projectile, which was quite unfair. So she'd just have to be even more clever and sneaky. . .which, unfortunately, was not the strongest trait within the mare.
BUT SHE WOULD TRY!
"Oh Azumoth, of course I know exactly how you feel. Whether or not you ever say it again, I'll always know. . . From your improved temperament and, dare I say, a new found patience in the world around you to just the little things you do specifically for me. I'm only too lucky to know you wear a love for me that doesn't have to be spoken or reiterated time and time again. . . . It makes for the times you do say it ever the more special." And with that, she leaned forward and gave him a little lick on his nose and a nuzzle under his chin.
Ha.
Take that.
She absolutely LOVED the fact that she could do that on a whim. How she'd feared to touch him so many years prior before his confession . . . and yet here she was, with not just Azumoth, but her mate and the absolute love of her life.

[[Shooooooort but I'd say we're nearly done. 8D ]]
He'd been with the mare for too many years now to be stunned by her sudden affection. She rarely gave warnings, was more than happy to disrupt his activities just to remind him she was there. It was unusual for him, or would have been in the past, but he didn't mind it in the slightest. She may disturb him on occasions but she also had a knack for recognising when it wasn't a good time. The mare could read him like a book and he was all the more blessed for it, where he would say something wrong, he would bet everything he had on the fact that she could save the situation. He was definitely the soldier, but she was the diplomat and probably the lion tamer too.
...Quite a potent concoction if he said so himself.
"Rest assured, I take all things into consideration before inflicting anything that could be considered 'harm' upon you," he chuckled softly, a deep rumble in his throat and arched his neck over the top of her head. Times like these made him ever so thankful that the mare didn't possess a horn, she would have impaled him long ago. More importantly, he was ever so glad she was petite as she made an absolutely fantastic headrest (though he wouldn't tell her this)!
"But I am glad you enjoyed your surprise," he gave a small sigh, unfurled a wing and tucked it around her, allowing it to drape lazily against her side. He fell silent for a few moments at this, savoured the peace, the quiet and the tranquility that such a scene provided. He'd long since had the suspicion that it wouldn't be lasting for much longer, it didn't take a genius to take note of his mate's desire for more children but gods help him, was he ready for more squealing little beasts?
What if they were girls!
"So my dear, what have you in mind for this evening? Very little, or will I have to cater to my own interests?"

Bella fell quiet, enjoying the peace and quiet of the surrounding pond, as well as her mate's close proximity. Everything was perfect at this moment, and Bella wasn't going to ruin it with idle chit-chat. No, she was more than content to cuddle up against her mate, with his wing draped loosely about her and enjoy his head atop her own.
Of course, she always thought she might make a nice head-rest for her beloved, but it never occurred to her that Azumoth felt the same. As it was, she'd take his touch without complaint and was only too glad for it. Even after all the years they'd been together, she only had eyes for Azumoth and was always ever so blessed that he'd come to love her in return. He tolerated her naivety, her optimism, and even accepted their age gap. They had their differences, certainly, and like every pair had their tiffs from time to time, but she loved him despite his flaws and prejudices.
To Bella, there was none other whom she would ever love more.
Her ears twisted and turned as he spoke, before she tossed him a small smile. "You're in luck," she assured with a small chuckle. "I seem to have the evening free, if you're interested in sharing it with me. I could even help cater to some of your interests too," she added coyly, eyes bright with good humor and a little wicked smile crossing her features. "If that's your fancy. . ."
And no, she didn't just mean that. She enjoyed spending time with her mate, regardless what came of it, and also shared similar interests as well. Bella would happy to enjoy the rest of the evening with her mate, if he was willing. But it wasn't her fault he was so damned attractive.
Often times men thought a woman had her wiles. . .well, they wouldn't be wiley at all if it weren't for the men they had their eyes on. Really, Bella was innocent. All the blame was Azu... or so she might very well tease.
