I got these lines in the Lineart Jam post and I used them to try out a colouring technique which consist of applying you darkest colour as a base then adding mid-tones and highlights. I'd usually lay out my midtone colour then shade and highlitght at the end. I was trying to focus on my light source which in this case, isn't as easy as it looks. sweatdrop I also tried to bring out volume.I used the airbrush tool and about three or four tones per colour. I usually use more but this is a test more than anything and I didn't want to spend 20hrs on a Lineart Jam piece either. It already took me over 5 hrs to complete this sucker.
So, how am I doing? If you want to compare with what I usually do, here's the link to my Lineart Jam gallery on photobucket

Very impressive color work, aoigetsu. Tasteful and fits the character well.

A little something I've been working on during my scarce spare time. This is my second serious digital painting and I could use some constructive comments if you can spare one or two wink

Arm length... A bit on the short side, unless they're in perspective... In which case, I suggest more contrast to suggest the illusion of depth.
That's what I have to say about it right now.

Kinda Silent Hill-esque there, Aoi. The proportions are a bit on the whacked side, though. Like Serial said, the arms are short, but also certain bodyparts like the breasts and knees almost look like they were glued on. A tad unnatural. This is from my DeviantArt account, Gakutenoh: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/18558496/Shading experiment. Thoughts?

Dude, you can't direct post images from deviantart. Ever. They'll hunt yo' a** down if you do due to eating their bandwidth.

As for the experiement, I'd add some pitch dark projected shadows and use that kind of lighting to define forms like in the face.
